3 years later, these subs are priced pretty much identically now.

I’m putting in a vxf 12 on a taramps smart 3k with 2 pairs of jbl 6500 C’s on a TS-400x4 I’m also having a buddy build me a 6th order box too so I can’t wait to hear it. Putting it in the 29th of Jan.

I always buy from a more established company that way if I want to expand later I might still be able to get more of the same stuff! I own DC audio, JL audio, and alpine! Both my systems consists of one of those three and I can have any of it fixed for little of nothing just email them and send it in! But it never messes up so no need! The JL system is 10 years old been in two cars still going strong! 💪🏼

I like em both!!

Personally i'd invest in a SMD tool to read the impedance & power at it's highest output to get a better perspective of what is going on, over 1 db is quite a difference so there could be more to it than just getting the Skar broken in.

Thank you Budget Bass Head for the shout out. Seeing this video I would say definently let the VXF break in 1st. Make it a fair competition. Because I have seen it many times the XFL in the right enclosure and power it can go over 145db. So break in the VXF because it is in for a crazy battle.

My vxf put out A LOT more after I got it broken in. Broken in, it got to 130 in just a prefab box. Haven't measured in the custom one yet. (Installed in an extended cab truck) Edit: typo

In my experience, a 6th order enclosure is ported in a chamber at the front of the sub and ported in a chamber at the rear of the sub. The diagram of the enclosure in this video looks more like a T-line enclosure.

Man I like both brands. Both make good subs and somebody would be pleased buying either sub. I could for SURE see the vxf needing some break in and doing higher numbers. I’d love to see that spl test redone in a few months just for pure curiosity. Kinda not a complete fair comparison considering the ab is broken in already

@@biguzivert and they are still cheaper and better than most any other sub in their price bracket. They don't make them but it's still their brand name on it. Sundown is one of the few that don't use a build house and while they are amazing subs, they are to expensive. If im going to spend that type of money, I'm going to go FI audio.

I have the American Bass XFL 10” in my sportage and no one thinks all that bass is coming from one 10” speaker. Bang for the buck you cant do much better. It actually seems like it’s getting louder as time goes by (I’ve had it for almost 5 months now). I have a question for you though, my sub says 1500 rms 3000 peak as well. Yet when you search it online you only see them with the 1000 rms 2000 peak rating? I sent a message to AB and Rockville about it (bought it from Rockville). AB wouldn’t reply and Rockville had no clue and said it might be a misprint lol. Do know what this is all about? I’m know there’s a few versions of the XFL.

I got 2 12 inch skar vxf's on a skar rp3500 and my shit slaps hard💪

I believe the vxf can that more power so yes the same way the XFL did against the EVL the VXF is in the same position now

I love the xfl I one had 3 15 xfl older models then I switched it to 2 18s soundqubed hdx3 subs that also hit exstreamly loud for 4k watts. Try a soundqubed hdx3.

@@BudgetBassHead I don't think anyone exseped me and Blaze D has tested the 18" soundqubed hdx3 but you can beat Parker D on the 12" soundqubed hdx3 review if you get one soon. They move 36mm one way and 2 18s almost shakes my suv apart. I got over 105 videos on them and had my first one over a year never had to recone ether of them. The 12" is under $279 I do believe I got the 18" for $339 and all size come with a 300 ounce hdc3 motor from the older models!

Spl is nice but I like lows and 48hz is a little high for my liking and by the looks of it the skar as well

This is just middle-band + cabin gain peek frequency. This is a daily build. Respose from about 27-70Hz

Of coarse the VXF needs a break in period! The AB will get loud, but the Skar after break in will get louder and be hella cleaner on top of it. I stopped running AB years ago because of their poor sound quality.

Please. Do your research. AB XFL is 91db efficient for a 15 . Higher sensitivity is more bass on less power. Also the glue used on the 3" coil is better than the skar which gives the XFL higher heat transfer capabilities which keeps it going past thermal compression.

XFLs dont sound bad. Problem was probably something else you had going on; box, or equipment

So, the American Bass isn’t the Hawk XFL is it? Because I see all kinds of Hawks for $199 (granted this is 2 years later) but all the regular 3000W XFL AB’s are $299 now. Can’t find one of the regular XFL’s for anything less than $249 & that’s 4 ohm. I have 2 Rockville RXM-T2 amps that ima have to just hook up one to each amp but they’ll have to be 2 ohms cuz I gotta run bridged at 4 to get appx 1550 each.

But the vfx isn't for spl it says in description

Is the Audiopipe TXX-BDC4 even on that level? I mean for the price don't that audiopipe hit lows good too? I'll be running 1600 watts rms.

So which speaker sounds better musically and which one gets the lowest?

Can you compare that skar against the Sarvad Hi-q 12v2

To be honest the vxf is a sq/spl subwoofer. Trying to hit every note cleanly and yet have the spl. American bass xfl is more spl related. Not really same match up. But both amazing subwoofers non less i own a american bass xr and truly love it.

I have not seen you have the box firing up towards the top of the trunk. That's the best position for deep bass extension and less panel flex sound discoloration. Also test results for each subwoofer on 8 ohms which gives the speaker cone 4x more control to it than when running it at 2 ohms.

Double wrong. The amount of rattle of the sub being 8” from trunk lid will definitely flex the panel and color the sound. Also running class d at 8ohms or 2ohms will make negligible differences. The class d amps of now are great at controlling subs even at 1 ohm.

The American bass is a way better built subwoofer than the skar.

better sub by far. That and you can beat the american bass to death without issues. Been pounding on 1 in my truck for over 2 years and it takes alot more power then its rating.

American bass has always made decent stuff for a reasonable price! And they want rip you, skarbage just might! Never ever buy skarbage it ain’t worth it to much trouble! It’s a fine product it’s a Chinese knockoff of sundown basically but with less then zero customer service and dirty doings!

I have a vxf12 dual 2 ohm and only an rp1500 amp with 250 amp alt and all 1/0 wire and big 3 and it is insane and its still in skars pre-made box for another week

BBH, You should do a heads up with the AB xfl against its equal in sound qubed. they are almost identical. see who the real best for buck winner is. I believe the sound qubed will be a touch louder while the AB a bit more long term reliable. think it would be the hdc4 but not sure if they still make. the brand is def worth challenging for a leader board spot!!! thanks

I just ordered an XFL1222 a couple days ago, and noticed after watching this series, on the AB site they lowered the rated power of the XFL12 to 1000w RMS 2000w peak. - I wonder why? Do you think I'd be allright running this sub on my Rockford R750-1D that does rated 750w RMS at 1 ohm? - ..So long as I'm not worried about making 140+db

American Bass is notorious for not updating the specs on their website. The newest one is rated 1500 rms. Even when I got the older one back in 2017 (newest at the time) the specs on their website where still from from the previous model at the time. Even the mounting depth listed at the time was way off. Obviously they have a chronic problem with updating their info.

Hope this isn't true, but I notice you turn the bass knob to max on xfl and in the vxf you had it half way.

The bassknob that comes with the audio pipes amps seem to max out before the halfway point for some reason. The only reason I know this is because I owned two APCL 1500's from them.

Yes you are right about the break in on American bass speakers once they get broke in they gonna hit a lot harder at least that's what happened with my American bass speakers at about 100 or so hours and that's real talk! And $100 cheaper! American Bass all the way...

Why are there conflicting power ratings for the XFL? More often I see 1000RMS/2000Max. You have 1500RMS/3000Max and I’ve seen that a few time too.

Thanks for the video's you do a good job. I had 2 18" sdr skar and 2 12" sundown SA in my Yukon. The two 12s bumped harder. I want to try 12" American bass. Do you think they will hit as hard as sundown?? I used a Skar Audio SK 1500 watt amp. Now I have 2 x series 15" Sundown and the beat up my truck I kinda wish I put 6 12" SA for look and sound I like the cheaper subs that hit hard. Skar doesn't have a SDR 18" sub so I'm not sure where you got that from maybe its a mistake. They only make 2 types of 18" subs. A EVL or a ZVX I have 1- 18" ZVX and it will out pound any 2 - 12" subs hands down its not even close. In my expadition I have 4 - 12" ZVX and the 1 18" ZVX powered by 2 - 4500 SKAR amps and I'll put it up against anything A.Bass has. American bass is a sub that you pay for what you get. There loud yes but not clean bass at all. We sell both SKAR and A.BASS and I can't tell you how many times folks have bought the A.Bass subs and either they don't last long or they hear a good sub playing music much more cleaner and end up coming back to get other subs. SKAR - ORION - DC AUDIO - or SUNDOWN AUDIO are a much better sub hands down. I've been doing car systems for over 25yrs thats selling them - installing them - Building boxes you name it we do it. I'll take SKAR over A.Bass any day of the wk.

My boy has 6 sundown sa 12 on a 7500 sundown amp in his wagon Honda and that shit sound ridiculous. Loud and clean bass.. so to answer your question sundown will out due skar and American bass and I’m running the xfl 1244 12s 1500 rms a piece and will still choose sundown cover those 2 anyday

It would. I'll say I am a lil biased because my whole system is Skar but they do come new very tight and get much better after break in and the box he uses is a cubic foot too big for the skar and almost perfect for the AB by man. specs.

Not to mention when I was looking up the box spec for AB its price is now $270 just like the Skar.

Just rewatched this. Still entertains a second time. I have the previous XFL with the smooth surround. Would love to know if this newer version sounds any better to warrant the upgrade. As for mine, I still run the hell out of it for hours long drives. I've had it for 3 years and I'm pretty sure I was clipping it in the beginning and definitely way over the 1000 watt rms rating, yet this thing does not die! It smoked once in the begining- nothing major, but it never did it again (over 3 years ago). Now, it works even harder since I added an Epicenter and still it continues without complaints. I've bought other subs since, but I end up always putting back my trusty XFL. I'm open to try other subs, so Please let me know what will play better (musical?), maybe even louder, given the same 1500 watt amp in a custom 2.5 inch enclosure tuned to 32hz. Suggestions are always appreciated.

@@BudgetBassHead Well, I pulled the trigger on a 12 inch Skar VXF (they had a 48 hour flash sale). As soon as I install my new Mechman 370 alt and JL RD1500/1, I'll be able to compare my old XFL and the new VXF. Can't wait, but it may take a while because installing that alternator is no easy feat, especially in a Jeep GC with the battery under the passenger seat, plus I'm ripping out all the gear I already installed and running brand new wiring and going from an Audiocontrol Dm608 to the DM810. The more I think of it, the more overwhelmed I feel- but in a good way (and you car audio guys know what I mean), because the end result will be worth it. The only thing I'm not doing is a second battery because I never run my system without the A/C going- the HUMIDITY and HEAT in south Florida will make the sweat pour and soak your clothes just walking from the house to to the car. Lol

I blew a skar evl12 d2 on a jp23. I think the sub has issues when i bought it. The thing had way too much glue on it. Anyway i went with the vxf12 d2 because when i look for the xfl 12 everything says 1000 watts rms and 2000 max. Amazon, american bass website, everything says its 1000 watts rms. The american bass hawk is rated 1500 rms. What am i missing

The A.B sites are not updated. I have a single XFL 15" on a JP23 @ 1 ohm in my car (320a alt, 2 batteries), the XFL is pretty loud and never gets hot or smells funny, literally no issues. Theyre rated for 1500w rms now but you know a 2300w amp is just fine.

I think the both are exceptional subwoofers, however there applications vary, the xfl is more designed towards spl and the skar vxf-12 is sql and spl so the db level will reflect in the score. Overall the skar will and does give the lows better. Thanks for your tutorial. I'm a recent follower. Your videos are very useful and even helped me choose the one I chose between both.

​@@rashad5286 Late reply but I love it. Its loud and clean and hits lows no problem. I get tons of people always telling me how loud it is when I drive by. I have just one XFL 15" on a D4S JP23 @ 1ohm, but I believe my enclosure helps a lot. It is 4.25 cu feet, 8" aeroport tuned to 32hz, sub is firing forward with port firing to the side, seats down. Still curious about trying a 15" Skar VXF in the same box, on same amp. I'd still keep my XFL in my collection though

Overall the XFL sounds better. However, I will allow the VXF to break in a bit more. Fore, the XFL did need a break in period as well. I will revist this test in the near future.

Amazing that the XFL is louder with a smaller magnet! 100oz difference? Wow

@@dylanrap9778 it's just design. Motor force matters far more than motor size. Just because it's big doesn't make it stronger

If you go on line and look up subwoofer bass compation's and look at all the different categories of power size or sub size there sure ain't very many A.Bass subs in any of them but look at how many skar subs are holding way more 🏆 So not sure why people still want any of them. I'll put a 12" VXF sub up against any 12" A.Bass sub in the exact same type and size enclosure and not only will they hit just as hard but there way cleaner to listen to when it comes to all types of music becuase there more of true sub for SQ not for SPL like A.Bass. Big diffrence between the 2 Well unless you just listen to rap music only.

Please try the soundqubed hds3 12. It would be a great contender in the budget arena being only 150$ at 1200watt rms. It has been my daily for more than 6 months and i have deemed it the best budget sub. There"s a guy in a group i've become a part of that runs 6 xfls but i like the sound of my hds3 12 more. Also i've had it on 2 apmi 2ks strapped and on regular non bass boosted music i dont think i've ever gotten the coil to stink but i am at 13.8 volts so thats worth considering. Soundqubed has since made an upgraded version of the hds3 so im hoping if you do buy one to test, that its even better than mine.

Put the right power and the correct box for that vxf it will absolutely slaughter that AB. Not sure where you got those specs but the xfl is only 1000rms

On there website it is 1000rms they never updated there listing as the xfl is a new model and has 220 oz magnet and 1500rms now

good buy on the amp switch however maybe not so good on the sub change. i dont think your going to see a diff much is loudness, more of just diff tones sound better on one and other tones on the other. i think that will be your main difference. the incriminator audio death row cant hardly be beat in irs class 1000rms it take double and not break a sweat. since your not going skar anymore i'd tried another sub. in future try an avatar or DB27

How do you have a 1500watt xfl? Xfls are 1000watts subs.

I doubt it. But, when I think of SQ I think of construction of Home Audio Subwoofers. These guys have over-hung voicecoils, paper cones, and low sensitivity ratings; They are meant to get loud and withstand a beating. Not exactly SQ in my opinion. But they are great for car audio 😁👍

The VXF needs more port area than both of those boxes you used. It appears the AB does too. All you proved is that a low port area box worked better for the AB than the Skar.

@@BudgetBassHead ok, but manufacturers recommended port area is almost always way too low. Go with 15-17 square inches of port area for 12s. 17-18"sq for 15s. 18-20"sq for 18s. Never go under 12"sq even for 8s.

Vxf need more power. I know guys putting 3k to 1. I'm about to put 3k to 1. I'm actually going to put 2500 but it is a smart3 but I'm thinking the vxf will do good on 2500 and last longer then if I put 3k to it

This test is unfair in a few categories Wanda obvious breaking in. Of the speaker did use in the same box for both speakers but the displacement of each speaker affects the tuning I tested both of these out in the same manner what I did is built a box tuned at 36 for both of them with the helm displacement traded from 15 to 20 minutes at low medium and high voltage and wattage for about 2 weeks when I finally tested it Head to Head I got a 142.8 being the highest for the American base for the mid voltage and wattage I got to 138 and for the low I got to 129 for the skar vxf put a scar on low I didn't get much of a difference on low it was a 129.4 for the m edium I got to 139 and for the high I got a 143.9 I used mic's and testing I use SMD products

Personally the American Bass is a superior subwoofer over the Skar but the Skar is still a sub but don’t push it over rated power unless it is a ZVX or DNR but truthfully AB do make better subs though.🏆👌

Parker pushed 5400 watts rms to the skar VXF! The VXF is designed to play a flatter, more balanced bandwidth, hence gives up a little shear Spl. The ZVX was designed to get louder, and less musical. The VFL is designed to be a budget SPL banger, just dont ask it to play 20Hz loudly!

Yeah both are good but I have AB and it do numbers and I’ve never had a problem no stink or distortion

The enclosure would need to be different, not every sub works in the same enclosure, they need to be built for the power you are running as well. The vxf is a more efficient woofer comparted to the xfl so i would take the skar over the american bass. I had xfls and they are a great sub but the vxf is in another class of its own. The vxf compares more to the HD series.

I want to see the American Bass XFL against the Torce Force 12. It almost looks like a copy of the XFL

Watching this video in 2023 and these two subs are now priced identically, well, within $6 of each other.

I have my single vxf 12 in an aero ported box tuned at 33 hz and it slams hella hard I agree with you

It looks like vxf is meant for low end bass. Put out higher db score on the lower frequency then the xfl. Subs definitely built for different purposes and should also let the skar break in

For sure in the description it's a sq/spl sub. I recommend try a a Db drive 3k vs the American bass. I think that would be more of equal comparison between the 2. They would both be ment for Spl. But man great video though.

those are bad ass, not sure if you knew this but the 2 subs that are most alike for the sound qubed is AB and visa versa!!!! almost identical. I think the SQ are a bit louder and the AB are a bit more reliable.

I have xfl 12s they loud but I don’t think the sound quality is good . I’m getting a pair of vxf 12s same set up and see who is the best in my opinion . A lot of pol say xfl is better a lot of pol say vxf is better
