I bought the exact same snare last year on sale for $99 bucks. I said Id buy every one they had at that price. But they only had the one. I own about 30 snares from high-end custom made drums to 60s mij... Acrolites, Maple, Walnut, Ash, Mahogany, Basswood, Steel, ..... and I love each one for its purpose. Each tuned differently so I can just grab a different snare for each session, rather than retuning all the time. (Time is money in the studio). However, my SPL has quickly became one of my favorite snares. I couldn't believe how well it records. Nice and crisp when I want, or deep and punchy. This thing will handle just about every tuning I throw at it. I kinda prefer a poppy med-high tuning on it. It still has enough low end to retain its tone, and the snare response is especially perfect for Christian Country Music (99% of what I play). If I can find more of these at $99 I'm definitely going to buy more and tune each one differently.

Ya I feel ya on that! This drum was on my saved list forever, im super happy with the purchase. with a quick tune up everything on it sounded solid stock. The heads that come on them are nice even though im a Evans player, I will keep the stock batter on it until it starts to dimple heavily.

Hey Jeremy Factual information and quite impressive playing. The new SPL 4/6/8 snare you've added to your kit/ collection is Stunning. That snare does not look wrapped, and if that is the poplar grain finish, Thank you SPL. The 10 lug/ new snare throw off/ acceptable stock heads/slim lug stays are all competitive nesseccities in today's drum market. Once you ran the sound through your system...OMG...Full,deep,warm. I missed the ringing. This drum seems like a welcome addition to any drummers kit and the price is competitive. First item on this year's Christmas list. Keep posting Brother!

You are correct the shell is not wrapped but indeed a turquoise fade dye directly on the poplar shell. I do not have any negatives to say about this drum, so it definitely gets a recommendation from me!. Thanks for the comment.

I have the same snare drum that I purchased last year on sale. I fell in love with it because of the turquoise color and the lugs and that it was 8" deep. It has a beautiful finish I also have a mapex mpx 8 by 14 , ten lugs per side black snare drum and hardwear It is also lacquer , but the shell is a Asian Maple which has a slightly better sound if you can get one try it out they are a fair price

I saw that same drum when I was there. I was not impressed with the MPX 8x14 the whole drum felt and looked cheap and poorly made.

Yeah the MPX is a step down from this. The throw off on the SPL is much better and the lugs are better. Hoops for both models are 1.3 mm and changing hoops really completes this drum. For indoor gigs I have no need for anything else. I got mine this past January for $119 on sale and have been using it ever since. It does everything I need and sounds awesome at all tunings. I think for the regular price of $180 there's better options out there like a used supralite or tama big black steel but if you can get one on sale they are an incredible value. @@TheMadSciontist

Im not the channel for all that. What you hear in a video vs what you hear in person will always be two different things. Mics capture the general audio differently than what our ears do. Best to do that sort of thing in person to determine if the drum is right for you.
