SPITFIRE WHEELS: Everything You Need to Know (shapes, sizes & durometers)
Спорт
SUBSCRIBE: kzread.info...
Need a new set of skateboard wheels, but unsure of where to start?
Have your wheels been reduced to what is best described as a bunch of bearing covers, on a setup that looks straight out of the 90’s; or are you ‘that guy’ at the park with a board that sounds like a helicopter and gives you a foot massage every time you skate?
Spitfire is arguably the biggest name in skateboard wheels, and is a brand that dominates in all realms of skateboarding; at the park, in the bowl, and out in the streets.
They have three major types: the classics, formula fours, and the charger. All have different urethane compounds which make them better adapted to certain kinds of use.
Formula four is Spitfire’s most popular formula, with a variety of cuts and designs: the tablet, radial, radial slim, conical, conical full, classic, and the lock-in.

I like hearing about how companies started and evolved over time. My favorite episode so far was the DC shoes one.
Another outstanding review by these guys. One of my first set of wheels I got when I started skateboarding, You cannot go wrong with these wheels. I'll never forget having the wristbands, coil purse, and a wallet made by Spitfire as well. Talk about a variety of more than just wheels.

Yessssss I’ve been waiting so long for this
Thanks, Bro! The most informative and clear explanation!
Spitfire!! Was riding bones and a few late bs and they flat spotted not even one power slide.....Picked up the tablets in 52mm and they’re perfect not one flat spot after quite a few hard sessions! Gonna try out the conical fulls next!!
I have waited long for this
for street/park, I roll Dogtown 99a in 52 or 54mm. Cruising, don't have a major preference but I've used 90a or 92a Kryptonics, or OJ's.
My favorite wheel is the lock-in but I believe they may have been discontinued. I can’t find them in any shop by me. A close second are the chargers. Levi is so right. They are soft and a gnarly pavement are wonderful.
I want the history of spitfire

Love the conicals there sooo nice
these videos are literally what make me wanna live
Just bought the Haze 56mm 85A wheels cause i want to do some basics but the ground on my town is crusty af. I'll update eventually!
I rode Spitfire in the 1992 - 1996 years. Once in awhile I would find some kind of metal (lead?) piece stuck in side one wheel. Not sure if that thing was embedded inside it when they made it or I ollied down gaps or stairs and the metal piece stabbed into it. A mystery...
Black Label or Mystery would be dope :P
Frosty white brand new wheels always felt and looked so gooood

Just a few days ago I ordered some spitfire og classics 58mm

I'd say the Conical Fulls are actually the best wheels for street skating. Especially the 99A ones in like 53mm or so. I strongly disagree suggesting the thinnest riding surface wheels are good for street skating, you'll feel every bump and get stuck more easily. And technical skating comes down more to the size of the wheel, less the shape. The width changes nothing, even when it can increase weight. And is beneficial to locking into ledges, benches and so on. And if you're riding with shock absorbers / riser pads on your skateboard, I'd say the Spitfire Formula Four Conical Fulls 101A are easily the best all round wheel (street, park, bowl, locking into ledges and so on, everything). If your streets are nothing but super rough with tiles sticking out, get 54mm (or bigger, like 56mm) 99A ones instead if street is mostly all you do. Yes bigger wheels will flip slightly slower, but nothing you couldn't work with really. I noticed I really do like the Ricta Clouds 92A for streets a lot too, but at 52mm that I've got they're on the tiny side for when streets get really uneven. Your knees aren't going to love it. And there's too sticky for smooth skate park surfaces, even when they do kind of slide somewhat.

Conical fulls really seem like the best. I have 52 mm formula 4 classics and they are phenomenal in the park. After just a couple sessions I decided spitfire formula 4 are the best wheels. I have some chargers and they are definitely awesome street wheels for rough roads. I can still get some pop out of them. I just picked up 54 mm F4 conical shape. They didn’t have conical fulls. I’m either going to order them online or ask local skate shop if they can get them for me
Love this serious so sick do something about freestyle skating tho
Thanks Levi, I got me some F4 Classics 56mm 97a wheels. They are N i c e!
Been riding spitfire 99 since the 90s .. I’ve bought the gimmicks through the years , like world industries devil cores ( anyone remember those? ) and rictas .. ghetto child wheels were big when I was in high school because of Muska .. but I always went back to my spitfires .. had a couple sets in my skateboard tool box , including the “ Blue Meanies” which were my favorite spitfire wheels of all time! Much love from Southern California 🤙🏻

So which is better for all around but mostly street skating?
Should I get 52mm 99a tablets or 53/55mm 99a classics? I use my skateboard for transportation and mainly doing tricks.
I love the conical full I feel like it’s an all around good wheel for everything I mean I skate street better in them it’s weird but I can legit skate anything in them rails stairs and bowls so I love them but I’m a guy who can skate really anything I mean yes I love to have a setup made to how I like it but it will take a couple of tries and I really can skate anything with any setup
I’m tryna ride on a sharper and harder surface so what kind of wheels should I get?
Didja know of 97a Spitfire Formula Four ? I'm hoping to buy one soon I seen at a nearby Skateboard Shop here in Southern California

Can some one please explain to me how conical is better for skatepark transition and mini ramp. I saw some where less chance for hang up with conical but, I feel like that rounded classic corner would prevent less hang up.
I gotta find this skate shop
I am very much a park and bowl rider but I’m still learning in bowls would the conicals be the right wheel for me ? Or is there a better shape I should go for ?
@ShredzShop
4 жыл бұрын
I really like the conical / widest shape possible for bowls. I was skating Burnside a few years back and had some thin wheels on and my board was sliding around all over the place. Then I started riding a wider surface area and it was way more stable at high speeds!
Hey, nice review. Which shape do the OG-Classics have and what are they recommended for? didnt really get that in the video. peace
@ShredzShop
3 жыл бұрын
OG Classics have a suuuper wide conical shape! But they are asymmetrical, so kinda similar to the lock ins. The best view of them is on one of the product pages we have for them: shop.shredzshop.com/spitfire-og-classics-wheels-52.html
What about the scorchers are they just chargers.

Yooo that’s my local park in the video where r y’all located???
Great video, but i'm still confused. I skate tranny in smooth concrete parks. I have a small bag of tricks on the mini, far less on the 4ft mini and quick in/out backside grinds on shallower pool coping in the bowl. In other words, i'm intermediate, scared of coping but know i need to get better at it and am thinking of stepping up to a 9" (board from 8.5") in the search of further stability and confidence. I ride Spitfire radials at the moment because I was told I might not hang up as much. Is this true or am i on the wrong wheel? Thank you! Oh yeah, and what exactly do you mean by "control"?
@LarryJuan_
2 жыл бұрын
Radials are good for all around skating for bowls and transition I lock in more when I skate the conical full 54mm and up Also the og classics which they make in formula four now. Any 54mm and up will be good for transition. Oh yeah he means control as in turning wise when you speed check or carve it responds how you want it to
Hey man my wheels are 50MM 85A wheel spitfire are they good for tricks?
i used to skate the og classic conical shape but i cant find them anymore and i dont like formula fours. so i switched to satori wheels
Does spitfire have the best logo of all time?
does a wider riding surface on the wheels affect flip tricks
@ShredzShop
3 жыл бұрын
It makes your wheels slightly heavier. But I wouldn't say it's a big deal.
radial slims vs classic both 54-54 range , for street skating , wich one is the best?
@zureai

Slims bro, more contact patch on em and that in turn will make the ride a little bit smoother
I thought the tables was for street skating cuz there the same thing as v2 bones and those are meant for the streets better for rails and ledges for better lock in
