Late in 1944, the Allies seem to have the upper hand in the European land war. A combined British and American paratrooper force, led by American general Gavin and British general Urquhart (Sean Connery), plans to take a highway leading from the Netherlands into Germany, so that British ground troops led by Lieutenant General Horrocks (Edward Fox) and Lieutenant Colonel Vandeleur (Michael Caine) can enter enemy territory. But the Allies soon learn that they may be overconfident.

Years ago when RAF Lyneham was operational, the C130 Hercules transports used to fly at low level over my home village on a regular basis. My late mother was out for a walk with my youngest when she was little when a 'Fat Albert' flew over particularly low, so Mum told my daughter "Wave!". They both waved enthusiastically and as the 'Herc' flew on towards Bath it dipped its wings in acknowledgement. Made their day!

I flew in those out of Lyneham. I was army Air Despatch, not RAF. Sometimes if the weather was hot, we'd sit on the rear sill and wave back at people.
A Bridge Too Far & The Sand Pebbles will forever be my favorite war films. Amazing stories & awesome practical effects.
Do an movie rewiwe on this epic bastard❤,sadly there will never be a movie like this😢
This was a great movie. And the airborne drop scenes were amazing.
Wing waggle V for Victory
I saw this movie when I was 13 at the movies and have loved it ever since.
This is Supermarine Spitfire H.F.IXb (MH434) built in 1943. It was flown by Royal Air Force Veteran, and aerobatic champion Neil Williams.
_Allllllll practical effects._ They don't make 'em like that, anymore.
The most beautiful aircraft ever made.
