Spirituality Begins with Self Acceptance

Most people struggle with feelings of inadequacy. And on the Spiritual Path this can lead to a kind of self-rejection, which becomes an impediment to awakening. Self-acceptance opens the way to genuine awakening and transformation.
"Much of spiritual life is self acceptance, maybe all of it."
- Jack Kornfield
"You don't need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself."
- Thich Nhat Hanh

There is no person, system, religious group or other groups of people who are involved in creating the right way to be in living together that has been attractive to me..lam of the belief that loving kindness is always the way to be. We are all here in our uniqueness, lessons to learn, and learning how to treat ourselves and other people and the earth . l am a work in progress and so are we all. Being present in each precious moment of life and being able to be true to yourself and the energies of living with love for all life....threre is always a drama free energy, benefits the world, is a joyous experience of creativity, and contains the powers of generosity, compassion, peace, justice for all life, and not having to live with comparisons and competition for living. Just simply being aware of what you think, feel, and being present in your own life in your truth and your heart's knowing that love is a treasure and is everlasting. Love is free and available to us all at anytime and we all equally have the power to create our future with our love of being.

I believe we are all enlightened. Truly. It is our rejection of the current moment and the clouding of ourselves in rejected and unhealed pain that we separate from our true being. Many mystic schools such as Zen carry this same teaching- that “enlightenment” is within us, that this inherent peace and happiness is of our true nature. It is simply a process of Being, of stillness, of presence that allows us to see what beauty we’ve always had, what beautiful beings we always were.

Thank you so much for this video. THIS was the exact reminder that I needed. I cry now. You reminded me that healing is more about integration. I looked at all my wounds, but looking at them and ACCEPTING them is a different thing. I had a massive outburst of rage that showed me parts of me that I don't accept... Things I thought I healed long ago..... Like neediness, attachment to approval of others, people pleasing... One can sit and observe. That's great. But actually accepting that rage, fear, grief - heartbreak, loss, anxiety, attachments,.... are a part of you, that they belong to you - this is the real process. As soon as we start honouring EVERY emotion - instead of just letting it pass.... I think this is the real union with self. Treating everything that arises with respect, gratitude and love.. Welcoming it. This sounds so super easy, but it is a huge task. Especially when you doubt your decisions, people around you think you are going crazy... But your heart knows the way. When this little gem of silence in your heart becomes your home, then you are able to welcome also the negative emotions. This is the practice.... And also: Being able to ask for help! This is a huge one. Don't be afraid to reach out! To family, friends, therapists or coaches... This can be a huge help. Happy ascension everyone!!🙏🏻💪😄

We are all Spiritual beings. All paths are spiritual. Stop living in the land of ideals and labels. It only separates you from You. You are master of You. We are all awake. We came here, were born here awake. Popular knowledge will send you in endless circles that go nowhere. The only thing we need to do is focus on ourselves and expanding our awareness of ourselves. Be here, now. Attachments to everything else will fall away when we connect to ourselves in a deep way. And no, you don't have to claim what isn't truly yours. Let it go and it will go. The one thing we have a hard time achieving is simply being and let it be, which is the state of everything. I Am enlightened, and not the idealistic enlightenment that others believe. And wow! To hear someone say that spiritual people judge more, hmm. Since when do we go around the world taking census on 8 billion other people and comparing them? We do what we are taught, conditioned, or manipulated into doing. I Am light. I Am not limited to this limited body. We are change itself and we don't allow this to happen without resistance...and so we suffer. Another is believing we are not awake, enlightened, or perfect as well are. It's OK to not use the words others use to define our spiritual path. I don't have to practice being what I truly am. I just stopped being what the world told me I am. I Am Spirit.

I've been thinking about this. On my spiritual journey I've noticed that over the past year I've had an attitude that I have never known before. I've struggled with wondering why I have feelings that seem very counter to others - they seem to be so loving and peaceful and the ideal. I often get angry, even feeling like I cannot stand someone or something. For about a year I've had problems with being envious of people. This wasn't just a small feeling, but truly feeling envious - and this is something I've NEVER felt before. I always pretty much considered myself excited for others. It astounded me so much I thought I was a different person who just was losing it. But what I came to realize is that the more I practiced going deeper in my spiritual jouney the more I recognize that it it likely an opening and even a purge, allowing me to see that deep down (and also at the surface), I have these feelings and characteristics that I need to acknowledge in order to be aware of them and work through them. It has been a challenge but I'm CERTAIN that is what's going on.

Let me tell you how I accepted myself As Is. no preconditions when I was absolutely living in an unacceptable drug filled life. There’s a flip I stumbled on. Accept yourself just as you are now. You need not get “better” to accept All if you. The balking that you feel is confusing acceptance with Approval. No. No approve. Accept the unacceptable parts of you. Not approve. Accept is agreeing w reality that it there. Like the unlikable parts. Hug and send kindness to the ugly vile parts of you. Love the unlovable parts of you. Once you own these parts you turn them over to the Holy Spirit for correction. AlwYs resisting these secrets dark parts of us we Pretend them away. They come back. We act and pretend them away. We confused approving of these dark things with saying they’re fine. It’s true we have this shadow. We can’t give it up to the Holy Spirit unless we OWN IT. pretending it away don’t work. Plus. Do I not destroy my enemy by making him my friend.

I have always found the spiritual community to be quasi cultish with high unattainable expectations and an unspoken reign or hierarchy or snobbery!! The adulation of the young seekers is unhealthy and detrimental to the goal. It is just another road along the human experience with all the same pitfalls and successes. I have found the question to refining the journey is to ask what the underlying need is for the spiritual journey. I have found that dealing with the human challenges openly and honestly becomes or results in the journey becoming spiritual. Not the other way around. Thank you so much for the forum in which I can rant and release and not feel alone with my thoughts.

"Don't compare yourself to some else today but rather compare yourself to who you were yesterday"~ Jordon B. Peterson, "Praise and Blame are two sides of the same coin, you can't have one without inviting the other" Alan Watts the medium middle way does not require nor seek either of those. This session helped both these Gems of quotes to surface with minimal effort. Thank you so much, i have only seen several of these videos so far but each one has helped me immensely. Alan speaks of how the ego will jump of a level of spirituality and the spiritual game of life is merely a highbrow version of the regular one. Life and its intricacies exist and develop with the intention to be a efficient as possible which involves reducing effort, Manly P. The most spiritual and at one I have ever felt with myself was when I became very sick, and needed a lot of serious surgery. I was in and out of hospital for over three years. It was a very difficult time. After I recovered I was a different person. It was the worst and yet the best time for me. I had such gratitude for every day. Everything just seemed better. I was really happy. I mean, really happy. Not just happy, but more content and not wanting. I was so broke, had a crap job, no girlfriend... I didn't care one bit. Now years later that feeling has not lasted. Life and everyday troubles has clouded that lovely feeling I once had of gratitude and acceptance. But, I still remember and I am going to try and find it again. It was a wonderful time for me. Having nothing, but honestly feeling like having everything. Back then I believed that being thankful was the secret to true happiness. I still feel this way. Thank you for posting your content. I relate so much. Some folks, in fact, a LOT of folks I suspect, begin to awaken as a result of the invariable bitterness that comes from being born in a plastic age, and if true insight is arrived at by way of a bitter path, then bitterness too has its virtue. Despite what we've been molded to believe, it seems to me that a truer definition of the word "optimism" is, "the ability to see pessimism optimistically". ALL paths lead to what we need, and indeed, accept yourself and honor the truth of who you are WHERE you are. Intuition isn't universally developed because it compels us to walk a contrary path, for example, we're taught to believe that men aren't nearly as insightful, but what does your intuition tell you? You ARE the miracle; your job is to do the work to remember.

I've had a spiritual backsliding as I hit the "real world." My peaceful, innocent boy-self has transformed into an unsure, disorganized guy-self. I think I need this video the most... as I research more into spirituality, I seem to want to put on that facade of enlightenment. But you are right... accepting those problems seem like the best way to start.

21:21 If we don’t bring awareness to a thing that we feel anxiety or misery over then the thing remains “fused” together, like a ball of wire where we can’t find the ends. It’s just a ball of confusion. There’s no way to dissolve it or resolve it or flush it without awareness, without attention, without looking at it as it is. Yes, what we resist, persists. Thank you for this very helpful talk. If I could ‘Like’ it 10 times I would.

i want to share an Experience i had,,, i visited this one small church along time ago and i had a Spiritual Experience, this Spiritual Experience was so Powerful that my body began to shake and tremble.. i was shaking.. and i felt Gods Glory fall upon me and i Experienced a Peace which transends all understanding.. i cant explain IT with human words. And i felt very Light and Floaty and i thought i was going to float off the floor as i went up to take Communion. i tried to make other Spiritual Paths work and ive searched for God in many Religions and was even studying sufism and Islam.. i tired to make these paths word but it wasnt for me i guess... i also had a vision once and in The Vision i saw a cross that was outlined with a serene light dark blue lights outlining the cross and i heard A Voice call me by my name! But check this, after that vision i keep on seeing symbols of blue crossess everywhere i go.. symbolism!! Anywho i was searching for a long time to find God only to "Realize" that i was Searching for Something that was never lost but was with me the whole time. a Shocking Discovery which changed my outlook on life.

@@dumalun8388 its the notion that there are not just good or bad people in this world. We all have two sides a good side and a bad side. Through shadow work we explore our repressed selves! The benefits of shadow work is to accept ourselves fully for who we are, including the good and the bad. When the shadow is ignored the results usually consists of jealously rage and any other undesirable behaviors.

if you try too hard to identify with being spiritual you're doing it wrong, you still carry a bias, which we all inherently do anyway, but learning that we have that bias and regulating it to keep us open to all possibilities makes you actually spiritual, or maybe none of us are "actually" spiritual.

I watched your entire video. First, I'm extremely grateful for your authenticity. I see very few human beings being authentic. I have a few questions for you and I hope you give them some thought. What else is there besides self-acceptance? Consider that instead of self acceptance being the beginning of spirituality, perhaps self-acceptance is the WHOLE of spirituality with no end, ever. I'm offering this as guidance on your path as we must all walk our own. Your an authentic being and the world will benefit from more. Feel free to contact me directly if you're interested. Good luck my friend. Andrew

I'm guessing Nada shares your view, given that he posted the following quote by Jack Kornfield at the beginning of the video: 'Much of spirituality is self-acceptance. Maybe all of it.'

Daniel R Thank you for the comment. My question was intended for Nada, and perhaps I realize you now, as simply a means of reflection to see how deep self acceptance can go. The only thing that exists is consciousness which functions through particular body mind organisms. The only thing there is , is acceptance of this or not to which there are varying degrees hence the term self acceptance.. Self is simply synonymous here for consciousness. keep in mind that because there is no individual doer of actions that it is not within anyone’s control to accept this or not. The acceptance Happens through a body mind organism Who later realizes that it was never he or she who did the accepting or did the seeking or did the questioning but simply consciousness functioning through their particular body and mind. and if the seeking has begun through a particular human being it will continue until acceptance reaches the level in which that particular human being realizes that there is no individual and no personal doer. This understanding eradicates pride. I honestly this helps. Best wishes on your journey and anyone else reading this. Andrew
