Reclaim Your Self Worth

Most of us will experience some degree of insecurity or inadequacy in life.. the feeling of not being enough.. feelings as if we may have little or no value. What does it mean to have self worth, and how might we reclaim it?
"Self Worth comes from one thing; thinking that you are worthy."

It seems that people have this inherent desire to be likeable and appreciated by everyone. The need for validation is strong among humans and we tend to think that if we're not validated by everyone, then it means that there's something we need to fix about ourselves. But it's important to realize that our mere existence makes it so that not everyone will like us and honestly, that's fine. It really doesn't matter.

  • @howardcohen6817

This is just not true, Future. Neither validation nor being liked forces anyone to fix stuff unless we think it needs fixing. Today, I was waiting in the doctor's office looking out the window and watching the traffic. Do you know that nothing that happened in the five minutes I was watching was predictable. None of the movements or length of time of the stopping, or idiosyncrasies of the pedestrians. How traffic turned left was infinitely different. Starting after the light turned green, slowing down and stopping at the red light etc. this was all different. Did you know that the blown bubbles all move at different speeds, directions and trajectories? When we average all out we say that wind is moving at x mph in a certain direction. But really each molecule of air has its own energy level, heat level and direction. It's next to impossible to validate what you can't predict. You CAN marvel at this, though.

@@sandycarter5300 Well, Future's speech was ambivalent saying first that some desires are inherent and strong and that reality shows us that this isn't especially important. But I don't agree that I'm particularly looking for validation - I'm just looking to hear you and to be heard. Sandy, don't you feel that I heard you in your taking exception to what I wrote? Do you feel that I took your comment as an attack? on me? Thanks, though, for wanting to set me straight on what Future wrote. I'm grateful. Love.

@@stephaniecallahan5356 I don't agree with your assessment, Stephanie. Hearing and being heard is necessary to take proper action and is the basis for common understanding. It is neither proving that I am a good person, nor even that I exist (which is what I think of when using the term "validation"). It's quite the opposite. I validate reality and don't misuse reality - yours or anyone else's - to validate me. I am already convinced that I exist. Thanks for your love. Love.

People often forget that their own self-worth _doesn’t_ depend on others. Being here in our own spiritual existence, and yet, having a _human_ experience, as French philosopher Pierre Thiehard de Chardin once said-in essence is special within itself. By that evaluation, we are guided by our own _inherent_ self-worth to express our greatest gifts most humanly possible, w/a spiritual desire to manifest our dreams in our collective _shared experiences._

While we live unconsciously with ego steering the wheel, it seems in my experience, self worth is not very high so others opinions of ourselves is more important. As we live consciously, we (I) realise that our own self worth is much more important than what others think of us. If you are living mindfully we hopefully accept things about ourselves and others. Ego still exists but not the driver, now only a passenger.

This inability to love oneself or anyone else applies to women too. . So many times we think this is about men. Let me tell you, women everywhere are suffering from huge deficiencies in self love and i mean the good kind... Men, be sure that she really does love and care for herself b4 you give it heart... Women, can we reach out to the sisters that we see suffering in this way and build each other up? This to me is as important as the priority that we place on our romantic relations... Bc we can't keep what we have (good romantic relationships rooted in self worth) unless we are also giving it away! Love and peace to all❤️😘🌈

So true! We are equally valuable and it has nothing to do with one’s status in life or other’s opinion of us. Simply because we exist; are consciously aware at some level; and possess the ability to raise higher in awareness supports our innate value. Though we are part of a collective consciousness, true awareness begins with self-self worth, self acceptance. For those who desire it, it is a life-long process to better know who and what we are while simultaneously enhancing our unique, individual and collective awareness.

I was so excited to see this that i got a bit shaky!! Such an important and crucial topic. I remember a time when i did not feel so important. I wasn't really taught about really knowing and loving yourself. I mean, i would hear some say the words : You should love yourself," but that was the end of it. You explained it here so beautifully. I have felt quite misunderstood for most of my life. Because of my unique {from the heart} style, it seems that there have been so many that think that's all i'm about, all i talk about. I have had quite a few come up to me and say: "you look so cool!" "I wish i had the guts to do that!" And although that is fine and good, i would start feeling so alone when i would proceed to let them know that i truly dress from my heart, and go on to more meaningful conversation, and i see the wall they just put up! Everything i do comes from my heart, and that's what i want to convey with others. There have even been people that i really thought i would have a deep connection with, but all they wanted to talk about is where i got my dress, or how i did my hair the way i did. It was actually quite disturbing to me. I knew that i had so much more to offer, to put on the table. It is a very lonely feeling. But i am learning that there is a beauty within that. I had only heard about you a couple of months ago, and have already watched most of your videos. There have been some that i have watched 2 or 3 times! I have really been benefiting from them. Your kind words, your gentle voice, and your ever reaching and compassionate eyes, calm my nerves more than anything else ever has. On my journey, i am realizing more and more, that i don't need everyone to understand me, to "get me." As you said, some are just incapable. I do believe at this time in my life, i feel more "alright" with me then i ever have, and i bid thee thanks!

However, instead of telling me this, they choose to let it slide... and then later got mad and broke off communication. Ultimately, as I see it, there is nothing I could have done to prevent this -- I cannot read anyone's mind, especially not through text! So, I'm simply moving on with my life. It's a shame that they cannot communicate their needs, but it is completely independent of me.

I am not interested and suddenly she got offended she swore that she will never mentioned her and that’s it she never talk to me again. It was not the first time that she did this. A lot of times but we will talk again because we were colleagues at work. I always feel crushed after she will stop talking to me. I wallow in sadness, blame myself for saying something that upset her. But really there is nothing bad that I did to her she just easily get offended without giving me a chance to explain or apologize whether needed or not. I am still very affected. Glad that I saw this video.

Value is subjective and your value of yourself is created by yourself. If you believe you have value, you are right. If you believe you are worthless then you are also right.

I run into trouble with this when what other people think has a measurable impact on me. For example, I struggle with finding gainful employment. As I write this, I have a gap on my resume that is over 5 years wide. I'm working with someone who helps people like me. He wrote last week, "Don't worry about the gap. EVER." My response was that I typically do not worry about the gap or make an issue of it. The problem is that prospective employers are the ones who make it an issue. And since they get to determine whether or not I get to eat tomorrow, what they think of either me or aspects of my life DOES matter. Autistic adults like myself currently enjoy a 90% unemployment rate. Good times. I've also struggled with what my value might be to others. When I find potential "friends," I panic at the idea that I need to bring value in order to keep these friends. I'd then put myself in a position where I end up going out of my way. Next thing you know, I have friends merely because they get favors, which is wrong. The alternative is that I have no friends, which is where I currently reside. Of course, I don't require this of them, and yet I've required it of myself in the other direction. So for the past five years, I've had no job and no friends. I'm a burden on my mother, who helps me survive. Maybe the hardest part is that I can find NO good reason to keep up this charade. I'm only postponing the inevitable. Yes, I have professionals working with me on this. Knowing me, I'll figure it out and understand it right as I draw my last breath. That's not really helpful.

The most difficult aspect of self worth for me is as a parent. I did my best to raise kind, ethical people. I routinely go out of my way to help while not interfering and get treated as though I'm invisible...until they need a favor . It saddens me that my adult children are self centered, materialistic, but I keep my thoughts to myself, but it weighs heavily on me.
