Oh, and "I have the power of a dying sun, I climb the alter and take my place as God" must be, MUST BE, the greatest lyric intro for a breakdown ever. It is incredibly epic & poetic for a breakdown. I just want to shout that at the top of my lungs whenever I hear it! 😅

Interesting how you described your daughter's reaction to Secret Garden. Courtney also described it as beautifully sad, while I got more of an uplifting vibe like you did. Just goes to show how people interpret music so differently. This is easily one of my favorite albums of the year, along with Wallflowers, Fortitude, and Kostolom. There is good variety throughout, yet it all still feels connected. It was also really cool to see them have so much success with the release. BTW a lot of the shots from Circle With Me were done with a camera mounted on a circular track above the stage. They showed some behind the scenes clips of it. Can't remember if it was on Instagram or elsewhere.

There's a lot of bands doing more interesting stuff with pull-backs and stops but to me this album says that SB have already MASTERED the form. Incredible debut, fully deserving all the praise it gets. And yeah Bill's bass tone comes through real nice, totally agree with your angle on it. Also that outro on Halcyon fucking WRECKS me every time, I absolutely adore a banging metal outro and it gets full marks. Now listen to Sleep Token! The Offering, Higher, Hypnosis or High Water are all worth checking out to hear their heavier side

I had a feeling you'd react to the full album and I'm so glad you did. It's such an amazing album. And Secret Garden is such a good song to introduce your daughter to metalcore with. Honestly Spiritbox in general is a good band for that because they don't stick to any one element of it. They don't box themselves into having one set sound and they don't shy away from mixing the softer elements and harder elements of the genre.

Such a great debut album from Spiritbox, feel like they had a lot of expectation & they've more than met it. Would also love to see your take on the new Trivium album, some very cool riffs & instrumentals all over the place & the hooks & grooves ofc. 🤘😁

@@Roguenjosh In the Court Of the Dragon is a good intro to their current sound/vibe on this new record. (Of the same name) Generally speaking though their album "Shogun" is regarded very highly. The title track is a 12 minute epic journey, but that whole album has many great tracks from front to back too😄🤘

I'm 3 months late watching this listen-through and that comment jumped out to me too. The Summit is my favorite track on the album. It's not the heaviest track (it's arguably the lightest); it's not the most technically intricate; it doesn't have a bunch of time changes, just the one half-time breakdown; and it has no harsh vocals other than a light backing layer for texture during the breakdown. Critics would say it's the most radio-friendly and probably furthest from the band's core sound. But it has a fantastic melody through verse and chorus, some entrancing rhythms in the vocals, and just *flows* perfectly throughout. That flow is exactly why Josh's APC call is right on point. I've been trying to nail down that familiarity too, so I'm glad he finally solved it for me.

Took me a while to give spiritbox a fair chance, and I'm glad I did; I love all the songs on the album, there's a lot of variety in here, I think this album is great because of that and the fact that is accessible for people who are just getting into metal. Personally, if someone asks me for a song or album they can listen to if they are not that much into metal, I'm going with this one.
