Earlier this year in Episode 3 we went to see Spirit Yachts on the east coast of the UK. While we were there we took a look at the stunning Spirit 111 as she slipped into the water and said we’d report back once she was sailing. Well, now she’s up and running and I was lucky enough to be invited aboard to have her all to myself for the day…Oh yes! So, what is this remarkable, innovative and striking eco-friendly superyacht like and why is comparing her to a classic J Class from the 1930s is so relevant? Watch here to find out.

You have to give immense credit to the owner for commissioning this possibly, culturally significant yacht. It is beautiful and uncompromising.
GEIST is the sweetest boat I’ve ever seen. I’m 70 and I’ve been sailing from half a century.
My hat goes off to the quality and incredible skill of the craftsmen who brought this yacht to life. She is indeed a beautiful piece of flowing practical art and a pleasure to behold. Cheers from Down Under, Rustie.

Pure, raw elegance……this is the yacht of my dreams which has become a reality for some very lucky owner… ive sailed almost for 25 years, a lot of those single handled this would be such a joy to sail…like this my yacht was also all electric!!!! Amazing…..

I will be despised for the comment I am about to make, but this beautiful boat has a weird inside area that resembles a boutique hotel, a Camper store designed by the Campana brothers, or the lobby for a hipster startup company in San Francisco; way too impersonal and it looks contrived to a nausea. But the electic engine is brilliant. Who makes it? Oceanvolt? I wish more info was given, especially in the prop energy recovery, which is quite amazing indeed. I suppose when I purchase mine, perovskite solar pannels and solid state batteries will be my first accessories for when I anchor for a month in Fatu Hiva to smoke weed, drink pisco sour, caipirinha, and eat sashimi all day. By the way, this boat is gorgeous.
Wow! Just Wow! Had seen a few short web articles about this yacht and thought... huh? But this video makes plain that this is the realization of a very specific brief, and what a beauty she is. The video is equally well done too. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

I am curious as to the interior design.would be along the 1930s design concept especially when you look interior and furniture designs from that time period. The interior caught me off guard as I wasn't expecting that from a classical design. At the end absolutely beautiful and masterfully design. Loved that it has a electrical motor when starting vs the diesel

LWR on keel stem to stern allows the sailboat to sail upright and faster with better heavy weather handling.

I love how british love to put their face front and center of every shot and have the boat in the background. It never occurs to them they can film the boat and do commentary at the same time.
What's going on with the bottom end of the jib luff (6.04)? Looks as if it has split and the damage bodged with a length of twine.

I note the king plank has parallel sides. I’ve seen this on other modern yachts. Is this a trend? One could argue this looks crisper than the traditional style, personally I prefer the old style. Can you enlighten me to the reason this was used on this particular yacht please?
Stunning, beautiful, gorgeous piece of art . Unfortunately not for me . As a solo and live-in sailor, I'll have to modify and add few bits and that would spoil the original design. It's like doing a round trip of Africa in RollsRoys, just not practical for the task. But for staying local it's more than perfect 👌 😉

Wood ? ! beautiful but constant maintenance ! Not so sure i would want this in the middle of the Pacific ! OK, after seeing the interior - yes, this is a dock boat !
Where is the dinghy stored? Every cruising yacht needs a dinghy...

Once on the "clean" foredeck, in heavy weather, where do you wanto hold on... The boat seems to be conceived by a designer, not by seamen and nautical engineers...

It's not that bad, the toe rails are plenty high and the guardrail looks ok. Plus, you would have jacklines and wouldn't really need to go forward of the cockpit on that kind of boat.

There's always one.. Thinks he knows but doesn't really.. Spirit yachts are built by sailors.. They are well thought and are utterly stunning
The only thing more beautiful than this gorgeous, was Christy Turlinghton in her high days 😛 They must be around the same price I guess...

Deeper bulb keel for more righting movement. Lighter weight cold molded-composite hull, lighter weight carbon rig and massive sails of modern materials, plus that 111 foot length, she will be significantly faster than the j class yachts, and is probably one of the fastest spirit of tradition yachts in the world. Think I read somewhere she'll probably go downwind at 18-20 knots.
I would be very curious to know what this "mid thirties" owner does for a living...

These are rich people, properly a support vessel nearby.
I saw the figure 10 million GBP for this boat, you can get a very serious used boat for that money. So, did the owner get a supermodel with this boat? A huge amount of money wasted otherwise.
