Spiral hitching aka French hitching

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Another popular hitching style is spiral hitching. This was often used to cover many parts of the ship and is not only highly decorative, but also handy, it improves the grip.
It is also called French hitching. In future videos I will also feature a few variations of this style.
Enjoy the video!

I love this. I'm having troubles though because I'm wrapping car handles that get wider and thicker at the top after the curve. Any suggestions or wraps that would be better for somethi ng like that?

isn't the initial constrictor knot aka a clove hitch?

Hey! Good question! The constrictor knot is tied very similarly, but it is not the same knot. The constrictor is more secure, but you could also use a clove hitch if you so choose. Mark

excellent tutorial, thank you for clarifying ;-) ignorance vs stupidity. I've not been made aware of said technique/knot, i'm an eagle scout, but an extreme novice compared to your skills, thank you sir :-D

Hey! I am sure the clove hitch is used more with scouts, it is a practical hitch indeed (faster to make, but less permanent than the constrictor knot). Have a great day and I hope to see you around! Mark

The proper name for the "constrictor knot" is the clove hitch. It's a hitch, not a knot. But otherwise, great video.

Hey there! Thank you for your comment! The Constrictor knot and the Clove hitch are not the same knot. They are tied very similarly, but the constrictor knot is a bit harder to make and also holds a bit better. Generally, I consider hitches, bends, loops, stopper knots etc. all knots. The knot is a more general term, while a "hitch" is a more descriptive name, since it also tells you the purpose of the knot. Mark
