Spike Flex Plus Fermenter Pressure Transfer - Tutorial

The Spike Brewing Flex + fermenter is a great upgrade for any homebrewer. Whether your kegging or bottling beer, being able to oxygen-free transfer the beer from one vessel to another is a fantastic benefit. Spike makes this possible by allowing a maximum 15 psi vessel and manifold system. In this video we show you how easy it really is to transfer beer from our Spike Flex + fermenter to our kegs oxygen-free.

If you have to swap out the blow off tube for the gas manifold you just introduced oxygen so what’s the point?

Before attaching outlet to keg you should drain off some beer to get rid of any oxygen in the lines. Otherwise really good system.

this would only be applicable to hop forward beers like NEIPA's and such.have had a few oxidation issues with those styles using a keg (fermenter) to keg closed system.

@@lancethompson37 Totally agree, we had another comment on this. Since we have started kegging from bottling even just filling the keg with the lid open has drastically reduced our oxidation levels in the final product. Just doing the quick co2 fill and burp method.

You could switch the getto 1/2" to 3/8" just buy a tc to 3/8" hose barb on Ebay. Cheers

When you dry hoo how much pressure do you apply to the keg? I recently used 5 psi and it seems as though the beer got slightly carbed (3 day dry hop) and during the xfer I saw a lot of bubbling, making me think my lines weren’t sealed or something… have you seen this issue?

Depending on the temp, it could have carbed up a little but that's a good thing as it's keeping alot of the hop aroma with the beer.

Didn't you purge the keg and lines? If not, the only benefit from your process was replacing lost volume in the fermentor with CO2 rather than air.

This is a good point, letting the beer run off into another container to remove ALL oxygen would have been more ideal. Well keep this in mind for future transfers!

Ya I've been spraying sanitizer on all my seals haven't had a problem. But you could always try some keg lube to help it along. Also I tried switching out the o rings just to make sure it's not just one that's being stubborn. It's very hard to turn in general so if there resistance it's normal.
