Sandman is probably one of the 'nicest' villains Spider-Man has. Former Avenger, regularly steps up to help people, best friends with Ben Grimm... he deserved some compassion in the end.

Sandman only existed as he was by accident. His original reasons for villainy were all for the sake of others(his family) regardless of universe. The dude simply was a man who faced many unfortunate circumstances and in many situations just needed help from others and it took him getting heroes attention to solve the problem. Dude definitely always deserves the treatment and respect both spiderman and the thing gave him. Even if they fought it was always an understanding that this dude is just willing to do what he must to solve a problem he sees when society refuses to help him fix it.

To me he was one of the most believable longtime villains to reform. Hated it when they reverted him to reunite the Sinister Six. Especially since there were suitable substitutes. And now that the Six is broken up again he gets killed off? Really hope (and doubt) this isn't the end of him.

I just want to bring up one of my favorite Sandman moments when they first started to reform him. It all started with the Thing buying Sandman a beer in a bar and gave him a lot of advice on how to move forward with his life. Then in a separate issue years later when The Thing was in the hospital all the villains tried to attack him and the heroes were defending him. But Sandman managed to sneak into the Thing's hospital room with a pack of cold beers. And they just sat together and drank for the rest of the day.

I really like stories where jjj knows Peter is Spider-Man like this one, because jameson has always had a huge amount of respect for Parker for who he is, but didn’t trust Spider-Man mostly because he didn’t know anything about who he actually was, when he finds out that Parker is Spider-Man and that it’s just an extension of him being who he is, he starts to change his tune, it’s almost like a mirror of flash Thompson where he was a huge Spider-Man fan because of how brave and selfless he is, but thinks Peter is nothing like that which is part of why he bullied him, but when he finds out they are the same, or like in that one comic where he never became Spider-Man and took a bullet for his aunt and uncle, flash gains a lot of respect for Peter because he values guts, strength of character.

Don't think it lastig past one story; but ever see when a group of Spider-Man's former foes : Sandman, Prowler, Puma, Rocket Racer, Silver Sable(?) & Wil O' The Wisp, formed a (very) short lived team to help Spidey out? Don't remember These "Outlaws" staying together as a group, but some worked together for Silver Sable's agency. When a bunch(!) of your ex-enemies got your back, that's a HERO. Can't think of many other than Flash and Spidey that'd happen for.

It's not about how villains are treated for me - Most heroes (Superman, Batman, etc.) will do the whole "you don't have to be a villain" spiel. I think what sets the Flash and Spiderman apart from others is the way they interact with people who aren't heroes or villains. Civilians are just almost ignored by the other heroes, like, yeah, they try to save lives, but they don't actually acknowledge them individually. Spiderman and Flash both have a relationship of most the people in their respective towns. Flash will spend his off time as a hero helping an old lady paint her fence, for example. They both are just friendly people, while the other heroes tend to be more like police, just doing their job to keep people safe, and that's it. This relationship aspect also makes it a LOT more tense when someone threatens to kill a ton of people. If the joker tells batman he's gonna bomb a hotel full of a thousand people, Batman's gonna try to stop him, but to him it's just "save a 1000 lives". But if someone threatens to destroy the flash or spiderman's town, it's not just human lives, it's the lives of friends.

This just shows why Spider-Man is such a relatable character. It's not all about the canon events, multiverse, crossovers or any of that meta stuff. It's all about an idea that people can put on a mask to be the best version of themselves for everyone, no matter what. And with this... this shows that Miguel O' Hara or Zeb Wells know nothing about being Spider-Man. Cause like Stan Lee once said: That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero. Sandman deserves the Venom treatment. He's been shown to be a 'some-what' good natured guy, when he had a heart-to-heart with The Thing and sacraficed himself to stop Hydro-man, in Spectacular Spider-man when he stopped the Oil Tanker from exploding, in Spider-man 3 where he was a father just looking out for his daughter. I wish they let him be an anti-hero, still masking it with his gruff, tough guy persona but genuinely trying to make a change for the better. But they keep bringing him back to his supervillian ways.

This writing for sandman is on par with the depiction of him in Spectacular Spider-Man. He dies in that show too. Okay, not really, due to the show's age rating but he would've died if they'd allow it

This is one of the reasons why I love spider man, when one of the villains he knows is dying from something, he’s sees them not as a villain but as a human being, he’s willing to put in effort to save there life even tho it means that the villain could go back to being a villain after being healed

Poor Sandman. I remember when he reformed and joined Silver Sable. I had hoped he'd stay good but the writers couldn't let him be happy.

Hated how even after he'd been an Avenger(!), they reverted him back for a reunited Sinister Six, even w/ several viable substitutes around. Now after the Six is broke up again, he's gone for good? Hope not.

People often forget that Spider-Man Peter Parker has always treated others fairly, there has been little to no indication that he's ever belittled his enemies, he's always tried to have a conversation with to onow what is going on (only consecutive exception has ben Norman Osborn with or without being the Green Goblin)

I've hated Spider-Man for as long as I could remember. Kraven's Last Hunt has always been my favorite Spidey comic for the simple fact that Spidey dies (plus it's incredibly well written). But man, this single video has me not only rethinking that position, but doing so with tears in my eyes.

It would have been epic with Venom,Eddie diying and spiderman going with the symbiote so it doesnt die alone,or the symbiote dying because of the constante mistreating of Eddie using it just for fighting, never been treated like a actual living being, and spiderman helps Eddie reconcile with the symbiote, in addition to him also asking for forgiveness for abandoning him,and helping Eddie to get thought going, and also reconciling with him.

Spidey didn't treat the Sandman like a human being, right? Like, he did...but more important, he treated him like a friend. He respected him despite their differences and conflicts. Hes the friendly neighborhood Spider-man after all. It's just nice how heroes like Spider-Man, Batman, the Flash, they can have these somber moments with some of their foes or otherwise misunderstood people, have these heart to hearts, and... yeah. Especially in their most dire moments. It's inspiring. Makes me want to be a better person.

So ...Sandman reforms, becomes a hero and gets accepted into the Avegers. Which is very credible since Flint Marko was never really about wanting to hurt people, so much as just trying to use his powers to make a quick, if illeagle, buck. Then in order to reunite the Sinister Six, Sandman is reverted back to being a villain; despite there being three(3) suitable substitutes (Hydroman, Quicksand, or Sandstorm); and how it made the Avengers look gulible. And now that the Sinister Six is broken uo again, he's what? Apparently disposable? I hope not. Maybe thus was just to make him sympathetic enough to get another shot at redemption?

what a touching story. sometimes its easy to forget that these are human works of art that we are reading, what with all the action and exposition flying around from page to page. the one where spidey reveals his identity to j jonah was really moving as well. i think the biggest strength in spiderman as a character is that many of us see ourselves in him, in his constant struggles to just try and make things right, fair and just, in a world that is anything but. its beautiful. spiderman may just be the most human marvel character ever created.
