Saw the Batman on HBO, and was pleasantly surprised. Very dark on my OLED, but a good film ,and all the characters played their parts well.

The Crow on 4K just got released

I was able to see a difference between blu ray and 4k, especially in dark scenes like in the dr strange tomb. But overall not a huge difference compared to other 4k releases still a really great release.

@@Ya-Know You still get Dolby Atmos on the regular Blu-Ray from other studios like Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Universal, and Paramount

I thought it looked amazing on IMAX. Not as great in 4k, CGI really stood out at home for some reason.

After you watch a scene a couple times your brain will pick up that something isn't right. At first the CGI in the eternals looked like reality but after a few watches it looks like pretty standard VFX just with more realistic lighting. I'm no expert though lol. The scene where Andrew saves MJ was horrible and almost disrespectful it's so shite. I was busy thinking about that instead of soaking in the moment.

In regards to the missing deleted scenes. There are (official?) packshots that are being used by big name shops online that show the back of the cover. On there it states "90 minutes of bonus content including 10 minutes of deleted and extended scenes". Some have these packshots still online! The names of the deleted/extended scenes mentioned in these packshots are: - Interrogation Scene Extended - Peter Day at Midtown High - Undercroft Montage - Happy's Very Good Lawyer - The Spideys Hang Out On the final release these scenes are missing and not mentioned at all and the 90 minutes have been adjusted to 80. You can still find these promotional packshots online on a lot of web shops! Personally, I think these we're supposed to be on disc, but have been scrapped not because Sony doesn't care. But they might contain hints on future installments that they don't want out there (yet). Or the future trajectory for the franchise might have been altered between the time of shooting the movie and releasing these discs and they don't want to plant false seeds that no longer will come to fruition. Or these packshots were just fake online screengrabs that shops copied without checking the source.

Love the review! I’ve noticed a severe drop in quality in theater presentation in my area. The screens are so dark no matter where you’re sitting almost looking like rear projection.

Looked awesome in 4K at home, in particular the lightning from Electro. Great contrast. Atmos sounded nicely blended but not a lot of obvious overhead moments.

Been WAITING for this review. Thank you for covering this!

I counted 5 big action scenes which is pretty good -the bridge fight -the woods fight -the mirror dimension fight -the condo fight -the ending

Yeah this one sucks the most because we don’t have any idea when the Sony backlog on Disney Plus deal kicks in so we could be waiting like a year and a half post release for it to finally drop on there with the IMAX enhanced. IMAX just does not care for Blu rays now it’s such a shame

Totally agree. I compared both the 4k and Blu Ray on my 65" C1 (at approx. 5 feet away) and they both look VERY similar. I will say that this is probably due to the Blu Ray being absolutely stellar.

I have often noticed little to no improvement in some 4k films over bluray. Ive even seen some 4ks look worse than bluray. I was dissapointed in the plot line,rehashing old villians is a old tv trick,and imho kinda lazy.

Miachael Giacchino was the composer for one of my favorite video game soundtracks, Medal of Honor Frontline back in 2002.

Been waiting for this one good review 👍🏽

I wonder if Sony are actually considering an Extended Cut to double-dip, hence the lack of deleted scenes on this release

Hi Jeff. Happy Easter. I never had a Tom Holland's Spider-Man on physical media before. So I bought the 3 movies combo pack (Blu-Ray) on day one. Very glad I did

The deleted scenes were initially on the box before release. It was on retail sites. I don't think it was corrected. There is some false advertising going on

The box art I have from the day of the official press release from Sony says 80 minutes, no deleted scenes. Now if retailers leaked something unofficial that’s fine but Sony did not false advertise this

I always thought Star Trek: Beyond was missing deleted scenes, because I felt Uhura and the enemy must have had more dialogue than we saw.

Honestly, they had a big opportunity to remake these movies with the original characters and new technology... and they screwed it up. I mean, come on... Spock and Uhura 'dating' each other? It's total bullshit. And the premise of them altering the timeline, so they can 'redo' things like meeting Khan. Please, just write some new stories, instead of ruining the old ones.

@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 I'm sorry you didn't like them, but I did. I think of it like Ultimate Marvel. The past still happened, and now the crew still have new adventures. And Spock used to play music for Uhura to sing. And they needed to boost Uhura's profile, to make the trio a quartet.

The 4K of Far From Home from what I have heard has audio problems in that it's weak on the Atmos track. The 7.1 is generally considered superior.

I was able to place my order online at Walmart yesterday for that edition, thank you for the review!

A lot of theaters are cheap and run their projector lamps with less intensity to save on power cost as well as wear and tear on the light source

Saw this in theaters and was anxious to get it home. Ordered mine at Walmart weeks ago. looking forward to seeing it. I use a 65" plasma TV for my screen, which I still love, so any Blu Ray looks awesome. I still tend to buy the 4K version for the atmos track, mostly. One thing us physical media people deal with from time to time is scratches and skipping. Wondering if a a video was ever done to address this on your channel??? Wondering what the best method is for disc restoration.

I went with the 4K primarily for the Atmos track.

I really liked this 4K transfer personally, I got the Walmart exclusive slipcover and the original Blu ray reveal trailer did advertise deleted scenes

People have to get used to mainstream releases skimping on some features and with streaming being on the rise and now with exclusive features like The Batman’s audio commentary being an iTunes exclusive physical media is going to get more barebones as we go along. Every DVD/Blu-ray release being jam packed for all releases are a thing of the past.

Picked up the Walmart exclusive 4K myself, by far the best cover art in my opinion!

Do blurays have much lower volume? I am new to physical media and all my movies sound worse than when I see it on cable.

I saw it digitally in hd and on disk in 4K. Big difference for me. I wish the CG wasn’t upscaled. Wish Sony would’ve made a different decision there. Looks like a Disney TV movie in some scenes lol. That’a one thing I don’t like about this trilogy over all.

For anyone who still cares about the format, this is the first MCU movie that had a 3D theatrical release not to get a 3D Blu-ray release. Anyone..?

I got the Walmart exclusive. Better cover imo.

The German 4K/BR, which is what I have, has a Print on the Back Advertising "Unreleased and expanded Scenes", which are not realy present on the Disc, but I guess small parts of them are scattered inbetween the other special features and interviews. It does sound a bit like false advertidement tho, because I would have assumed it's deleted scenes I can select on the Disc. I don't think its that bad, but i can see how people would be annoyed with that.

What soundbar with Dolby Atmos is good for 4K to buy at Best Buy? I have a Sony 2017 Bravia TV and use PS5/Xbox Series X

Ive got a nakamichi (arc) shockwafe ultra.9.2.4 They just came out with a newer model with earc, around 1400$ . I like mine, tho cant afford to upgrade to the newer model. Hooked up to a C9 0LED. Its a pretty awesome combo. They usually go on sale at black friday for 300 less,if you wait.

this is wild!! i was specifically waiting for bluray release because of extras and didn't watch the "deleted scenes" on youtube because of that and now it turns out they're not even on there, what's the point then?! the entire marketing of this movie is such a mess, haha!

My store didn’t have the 4K version, I got the Blu Ray version, the bonus features are fine, also why are they still selling the DVD only version in Target! It’s 2022, there’s no reason to sell brand new standalone DVDs, Disney is selling Encanto on DVD, they’re a waste of shelf space!

I'm waiting for the batman 4k. 😍

Its on hbo right now. Cool movie, okay plot,good acting...very dark. I liked it, and was surprised at Pattinsons take on the role,Zoe Kravitz yummy as usual, Jeffery Wright, paul dano great. Colin was unrecognizable as the penguin. I understand why its dark, but a little too dark in my opinion.

Thank you for the review! You had me almost convinced to but the standard blu-ray until I read that it doesn't come with Dolby Atmos. It only has a DTS-HD MA 5.1, which is supposedly really good, but now I think I'll shell out the extra few dollars for the 4K Blu-ray.

Interesting to see Dolby Vision for this release. I'm not sure if IMDb is always accurate but it looks like this wasn't mastered in Dolby Vision - at least for the theatrical release. For me, the IMAX (with laser) version looked way more stunning than the Dolby Cinema version. It looks okay on disc but pretty underwhelming in terms of color grading (typical Disney/MCU look) and I don't think Dolby Vision helped much. A little too dim as well, especially during the last battle scene with all 3 spidermen. Sam Raimi's Spiderman 2 on 4K is waaay better looking than this. Side note: In regards to what you said about your theatrical screening being a little too dim. I've had similar experiences with different AMCs but I definitely found my go-to location that's got the brightness level just right. Some locations have their projectors better calibrated than others it seems.

I just got a 77 inch Sony OLED with 5 free movies to redeem from Bravia Core. Since they had this movie available with the IMAX Enhanced, I went ahead and got it, plus I bought the Walmart exclusive 4K. I will say this, on a 77 inch TV, that IMAX format makes a huge difference. Much better experience IMO. Wish the UHD had it too.

I think on any screen the imax ratio makes a huge difference. Just the film quality increase for film shot movies is good enough but the better framed shots make it even better.

Got the Best Buy steelbook and love being able to watch this anytime at home in 4K. Such a great movie!!!

But what about compared to the Apple TV digital release? Is it worth it to buy the physical copy of these types of movies on these new up to date Hollywood movies?…

I was curious of this too. The blu-ray is DTS-HD MA 5.1 so I will also being going for the 4K for the Dolby Atmos.

I believe the composer, Michael Giaccino pronounces it G'kino...

Is the blue ray recorded in Atmos?

2K is 2048p. 1080p is 1920p on the long side, but the height is actually 800p for blu-ray scope. So there is a slight detail increase. UHD 2K 2048x852 HD "1080p" 1920x800

That's a 13% difference. IMO it's fraudulent to release this as '4K', when it's nowhere near 4K resolution.

From what I understand,it’s upscaled and the 4k disc has the black freighter stuff integrated into the movie. I wish the directors cut of the Blu-ray was in 4k to. But I still say get it if your a big fan of it. Took me months to get mine after it kept selling out constantly at one point

They could make extended cut with deleted scenes integrated making movie 3 hours long. It would be smart way to get additional enormous amount in blu rays sales, which wouldn’t be possible if they included deleted scenes with original release.

Sony Bravia core has the imax aspect ratio version which is really great,have you seen that?

@@Thecatdrums3 I believe so…I recently purchased a Sony tv and it came with 5 free downloads on their Sony Bravia core.

For me the Snyder cut of justice league is still the best super hero movie on 4k blu-ray.

I'm not into the marvel movies on physical medial i own the first Iron Man because i loved the movie... i dont want or need to rewatch the others and i don't like the fact that they are only upscaled from 2k masters. And as you've said the problem with these types of movies is it's worth the 4k price if it's not a proper 4k source. That's why i've preordered the new Batman movie which is sourced from a real 4k master and my experience in the theaters was pretty crappy and all grey.

I actually just watched this for the first time last Friday on blu-ray. While I feel like I'm the only person in the world who didn't really enjoy it that much I do think it looked fantastic. Great review as always.

You're not alone, I actually even hate this movie and I don't think it looks fantastic. It's such an ugly, bland looking movie. Especially if you compare it to the older Spider-Man movies like Sam Raimi's and even Webb's.

@@ed1rko17 the first amazing Spider-Man is just a dull and bland as homecoming. TASM1 was shot in 3D so that already muted the colors drastically. Far from home was way more colorfully but TASM2 looked the best since it was the only one actually filmed mostly in New York on film with modern effects.

@@Thecatdrums3 I still think TASM1 is better looking than any MCU movie, even if the colours are muted. TASM2 is an incredible looking film, regardless of your opinions on the story itself. I just think all the MCU Spidey films look like shit. Probably the ugliest blockbusters ever made. Watts is just a horrendous film maker and it's crazy to me that they keep hiring the guy.

It looks absolutely stunning on my Panasonic OLED. But actually for new movies it’s not unusual. Older films like Leon the Professional are often really amazing looking.

first time i have been dissapointed with dolby vision and atmos on a 4k disc. It was okay but not as good as my other movies.

On the issue of the deleted scenes, wasn’t there official box art released that said “Deleted & Extended Scenes” or was that a photoshop?

The deleted scenes maguffin that never was. The only movie that could have 80% deleted scenes I know of is SOLO. Basically Ron Howard had to redo the movie. If you have a movie of deleted scenes. Your in a bad production This has the rewatchability that many action films do not have today.Somebody wanted make an issue that was not their.Glad you cleared that up.Good Video 😎

Twitter rumors don't ever believe them especially when it comes to movies read the back of the movie cover to see exactly what you're getting

Just watched it yesterday on 4k really enjoyed to see old faces again. But the cgi in this movie looked super unfinished sometimes. A was a bit disappointed how that film looked it looks a bit too fake sometimes there is so much noticeable green screen in the background.

Have played it on my One S and was highly disappointed in the picture. I will try my PlayStation 5 and see if it is the same quality.

Excellent movie! But the cover art for this version you're holding is terrible. The way Spider-Man is swinging from the web, that goes between his legs, with his arms underneath him. That does not seem like natural body movement for Spider-Man. It just seems so off. Like a intern cropped out a random Spider-Man image from a fight scene and just painted a web from his wrists and some weird uninspired building in the background. Not a fan of that version.

The 4K version I got was from Amazon UK. The cover is much better

I wouldn't care if home releases of movies never had deleted scenes. They rarely add anything to a movie that I've already watched and I usually don't watch them when I'm winding my way through the Special Features. These scenes are usually cut because they would add too much time to the movie, the director and editor felt that no firther exposition was needed or they negatively impacted the overall flow of the film. It's probably a combination of two or maybe all three. As far as the movie itself goes, thank goodness the home release was still a Sony property and not Disney's. While the HDR10 and Dolby Vision PQ probably wouldn't have been affected, if Disney had released this, we might have gotten "Atmouse" rather than the robust Atmos soundtrack that we get here. Sony, when it comes to 4K releases, rarely hits anything less than a long tripple and, most of the time, hits it oiut of the park. No Way Home is defintiely a dinger.

I agree. IMO, they should have an option to watch the movie with the deleted scenes in the 'correct' place, or I just don't care to see them. Certainly not after the movie is over. I'm never that bored.

I'm not much of an audiophile when it comes to movies, so I'm going to grab a standard bluray.

The HDR in Aqua man is so good, it is worth just for that (even though its a 2k transfer, as well)

My negative feelings on the Spider-Man: No Way Home 4K/Bue Ray release. And this has nothing to do with the the film as a whole, its high-definition presentation or what was included in the extras. I take that back. It does. The extras take us on a deep dive into the inner makings of the film, which you would expect. And for fun, you have the three Spider-Men together (Maguire, Garfield and Holland), chatting on working with each other, anecdotes, opinions, being part of the film, and what it meant to them. As you would expect. Then, as a comparison piece, you sit with Dafoe, Molina and Foxx, doing the same as the ‘heroes’ section, with Molina being goofy and sarcastic, Dafoe being as adorable in a completely Christopher Walken-like way, and Foxx being Foxx; good, but completely out of his league with the other two men. There’s even a dance number with The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Electro taking the floor. And after a few more bits of extras, it ends. And I sat there stunned at an obvious and insulting omission: No interviews, no behind the scenes moments; not even the barest mention of actors Rhys Ifans or Thomas Hayden Church, coming back - even as voiceover actors - as The Lizard and The Sandman. Especially Chuch who had the most interactive onscreen scenes, regardless of it either being in CGI or well-cut clips from Spider-Man 3. Now during the extras, they show you the scenes with the two characters/actors, but that’s it. Not one word about the Church and Ifans, not from the actors or the director, or from the team who created the film. And to me, that was an insulting snub. Hope they liked their check.

Spidey was okay. Little dissapointed that it was a rehash of past super villians. Kinda lazy in my opinion coming up with that storyline. Was hoping for a new villian, plot line.

Personally, I don't like looking behind the curtain to expose the Wizard. I want the magic to stay magic. I never look at the special features.

Yeah I was searching for the deleted scenes. Disappointing.

Classic example of 2K DI films being pointless on 4K.

When do we envisage there being a time where cgi-heavy movies will be rendered and mastered in 4K or above? It's a shame that so many modern 4K movies are just upscaled 2K masters.

For Marvel probably not for a long time. They’re so awful with how they handle CGI production, using far too much of it when it’s unneeded and completely changing stuff at the last millisecond, that upgrading their pipeline to 4K would never work for them.

I swear I remember IMDb saying that this movie was finished at 4K, which is why I was excited to pick it up. I guess it isn't though, so I'll probably just pick up the Blu Ray on Black Friday or something.

The spidey pose on that cover is pretty unfortunate

This blu ray is terrible. Got the disk and noticed a ton of issues. Ghosting and other issues. Tried the digital version and same issues. Tried a different TV as well. Only movie I’ve had with these issues. Terrible

I bought a trilogy set for Spider-Man, with Tom Holland, which includes No Way Home.

Marvels 4K MCU movie have always been weak when it comes to 4K. I rather the studio include 3D with there physical media.

idk man sounds like were slowly being trained to expect less and less. this coming from a prominent physical disc providing studio is not a good sign. especially on a movie this big .

Sony stopped supporting 3D discs themselves and just started to include original audio for older films on 4K. I think they are getting tremendously better but for features if you haven’t bought a disc in a few years than I can expect this answer but compared to other Sony/ marvel films this is better 🤣 The main issue with this disc is the lack of the imax expanded ratio

Yep, how long before a '4K' disc is just a VHS transfer.

Watched the 4k Friday night looks amazing especially on Dolby vision

Looked great, not enamored with the movie at all. Plot was a mish mash IMO. Not one of the better one.

It was such an amazing feeling finally only the movie...then turns out we got scammed out of our deleted scenes 😭

​@@JeffRauseo There was indeed a back cover going around listing "over 90 minutes of bonus content... including deleted & extended scenes" and it looked perfectly official. I'm assuming that design never made it to market, but someone over in Ken's comment section said that their friend got a copy from Best Buy that listed 'deleted scenes' as one of the bonus features. I have no idea if it's true or not, but I suppose it's possible.

@@wright96d from February when the movie was announced with dates for physical, there was never a mention of deleted scenes. Now if someone edited a photo or leaked something that’s one thing, but it’s not on Sony for false advertising. They never advertised it.

@@wright96d Walmart copies said originally 90 minutes and you can still find copies that say that. It is being called an error since the Walmart edition only has exclusive cover art for the slipcover. Seems to be a deal that fell through since the digital version on movies anywhere was the only place to get it exclusive features. Wasn’t edited or fan made just a factory error that went through production.

@@Thecatdrums3 Yeah, I'm trying to confirm that with a trip through The Internet Achrive's Wayback Machine, as Walmart currently lists the 80 minutes design. Edit: Walmart still listed the 90 minutes design as of April 4th.
