SPIDER-MAN Movie Reaction! | First Time Watch | Tobey Maguire | Willem Dafore | Sam Raimi

When we had Kristen watch Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse, we knew she hadn't seen that movie but what we didn't realize was that she hadn't actually seen the other Spider-Man movies before either, although she is familiar with the character of course. We're starting her off with the first Spider-Man film by Sam Raimi starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Willem Dafoe and James Franco and if you guys enjoy it, we'll do all the rest!

Anyway, this is such a great movie.... for a long, long time I think Tobey Maguire's Spiderman was a LOT of people's favourite Spiderman and he did such an awesome job. Something you may have missed: This was directed by Sam Raimi (who made the OG Evil Dead movies( and Bruce Campbell starred in those movies, and has been in a lot of Sam's movies including this one. Lovely reaction - looking forward to more from you both solo and paired up - IMO this was the film that set the template for superhero movies as we know them, mixing 90s CGI w HK wire fu, plus Raimi's indie comic book sensibility - I think he was a big influence on Peter Jackson - including that famous mirror scene w Norman/Goblin, which I think inspired the staging of the equally famous Gollum/Smeagol dialogue scene in Two Towers - I like that Raimi embraces the innocent idealism of these comics, without the cynicism of later films - my favorite parts are w Peter and MJ, which still feel strong after so many viewings - also how deeply Raimi identifies w Peter, which makes the whole film feel personal -

I never really cared for Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Even when I was a kid I never saw him as my definitive Peter Parker. He's really too meek and wimpy and that is supposed to be Peter's personality at first, but he never really gets over it in these movies. Especially when he is Spider-Man he really doesn't portray Spider-Man's iconic sarcasm and quippy personality well at all. For a lot of people that version was their first exposure to the character and therefore they hold him in high regard despite the many ways it strays from the source material but for me it was never really the case since I was already familiar with the character and I just never quite connected with it.

@@luiki4189 Not as many people watched Spider-Man cartoons before the movies or even in general. I constantly hear people say that the first movie was their first exposure to the character. The sad truth is that live-action movies always have been more well known to the general audience than the comics or animated shows.

15:24 The big reveal shot of Spider-Man's face was originally supposed to be preceded by a scene where he catches a helicopter in a web between the Twin Towers. This scene was seen in a trailer for the movie, but was ultimately cut after 9/11 happened.

@@wikiuser92 It's common sense, lol. It could not be more blatantly obvious that the teaser trailer sequence was not actually meant to be in the film. It doesn't fit even remotely into the actual film whatsoever. It's entirely self-contained like a short film, is shot and directed very differently from the way the actual film was, and uses tons of stock footage in addition to its entirety stock soundtrack. We have the tracks from Danny Elfman's score for the film that went unused, and none of those at all correspond to anything that would resemble the sequence in the teaser trailer. The sequence from the actual film that you're claiming the scene was meant to be a part of was a montage, and a sudden self-contained sequence like the teaser trailer would be completely out of place in a montage of otherwise very brief moments. Need I say more? Making teaser trailers that are entirely self-contained and don't rely on actual material from the product they're promoting is (and certainly was in 2002) _far_ from unheard of. Edit: It's also worth mentioning that you, yourself, provided no source for _your_ claim (because there is none), so I'm in no way obligated to provide a source for dismissing it in the first place. Any claim made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Great movie. The sequel is even better but Spiderman 3 of this trilogy is beyond horriable. You should watch Darkman 1990 which is an original superhero Sam Rami made (The director of this movie) before he got to direct the Spiderman trilogy with a young Liam Nisson.
