I love how pure and genuine this portrayal of Peter Parker is. He is the most humble, loyal and brave person you'll ever meet. He is super relatable because he never succeeds, but in time to time, he makes other people succeed in their own things and saves their lives, and he doesn't even complain, he just goes on until the day everyone he cares about is safe. Best game ever

Laura Bailey who voices catwoman from the batman telltale franchise does a really good Mary Jane performance and for me Mary Jane and catwoman are Laura Bailey's two best comic book performances and in my opinion Laura Bailey's Mary Jane performance is the second best performance ever and her catwoman performance is her Number one best performance ever, she does both a really good catwoman and Mary Jane

I liked her as Supergirl in Injustice 2. I'd take the idealistic Supergirl over the melodramatic Supergirl on that CW show anyday. But yeah, the best voice for Catwoman is none other than Grey Delisle-Griffin from the Arkham games. Laura Bailey's Catwoman in the Batman Telltale games was good tho.

Vanessa Marshall from The Spectacular Spider-Man has the best MJ voice imo. I get it how they're trying to make MJ her own character in this game but to me, she felt like she was Claire Redfield (since she looks a lot like Claire) with Lois Lane's lust for journalism personality. I don't know, her personality is nothing original. We already have two superheroes who have journalists as girlfriends in Lois Lane and Iris West for Superman and The Flash respectively.

At first I thought that MJ wasn't too keen on Peter constantly saving the day and not having time for her, which is what I thought she was upset about and that's what caused their break up. I'm so glad that wasn't the reason. She was just tired of being the damsel I distress all the time and feeling as if she couldn't handle herself. I'm glad in the end it was all cleared up.

The Peter and MJ relationship in this way perfect; rocky at first but both ultimately realize that they can't be without the other and use their unique strengths as a great team. Excited to see how it develops in future games. I see a lot of similarities here to how Peter and MJ were written in the Raimi films too. Peter is so naive and clueless at times about what MJ needs from him, MJ gets upset at Peter when she finally finds out he's Spider-Man because, like the Peter in the game, he wants to protect her and counter-intuitively distances himself from her because of it. I like that both Dunst's MJ and this MJ really fire back at their Peters and ultimately choose to be with him on their terms and nobody else's. I definitely prefer these kinds of MJs that are more than just a stereotypical sex symbol or popular girl and have a lot more depth and substance beyond that.

you're right then spiderman 3 came along heh but i do agree there relationship is complicated i think everyone goes through that when the gct mission came i kept thinking why didn't she tell him then i remembered why they broke up trust issues funny thing is i would of hated this version of mj if not for the scene where she apologized that one moment made me finally understand why insomniac wrote her like tht and in the end they got back together

Imagine how great it would've been had they jumped back and forth from Peter to MJ during that texting scene. I wanted to see how she was reacting as well. Was she freaking out as much as he was or was she as cool as a cucumber. 😊

Giving MJ the Lois Lane treatment, was genius. Allowing her and Peter to have something in common.💕 Her being an actress, makes it harder to incorporate her into the narrative, without being the damsel in distress.

i’m gonna be honest, i don’t want insomniac to stop at 3 games. this franchise has soooooo much potential.

THANK YOU for giving MJ something to do rather than be kidnapped!...even if we had to borrow a bit from Lois Lane. Also feel bad because her modeling/acting dreams seemed a little flimsy considering everything else that is going on in Spiderverse. So this is SUCH a good change. Plus playing as her and Miles gives people more reason to root for them. This version of the couple of Peter and MJ are the most realistic and the version that you can actually see them having a future and a family together.

As a hardcore PeterxGwen fan, I still think this is the best MJ I've ever seen. Not just in appearance but also in personality.

The thing about Pete and MJ I've always loved is that she's always been out of Pete's league. And yet, she stuck around. Death of Gwen, and Harry's addiction bonded them too strong. And then times changed. Kirsten Dunst happened. And people's perception of Mary Jane turned into something warped. This story changed a few things, she's not a starlet/model but a reporter (THE Most Cliche Superhero WAG Profession BTW) but the dynamic is about the same. She's still fierce, and strong. They may have broken up (which I hate because Pete and MJ are like the Royalty of comic book couples for me) but she's always there, and so is he. Otto, as good as he was, Molina did it better - I loathe Homecoming for starting this whole Pete calling her May instead of Aunt May - and the most important things this game got right so good over Homecoming is that First, every Spidey story ends with a crushing tragedy, and he's still back for more. Why? Because Ben Parker is his moral compass, not Tony stinking Stark. This kid could teach Captain America a few things about standing your ground. Homecoming Peter is like a younger Tony, no consequences, no perseverance in face of irrecoverable loss. His humor is awesome because at first it was a response to sheer bloody panic, which he evolved into a weapon as he grew up.

Pradyumn Pathak I....what???? While there are definite things I’m not a fan of in homecoming, the problems you allude to in it don’t seem to fit. Let’s start with the first big one; Tony being Peter’s moral compass instead of Ben Parker. Watch civil war again, where Tony asks Peter why he is Spider-Man; that’s Peter’s moral compass in Homecoming. He says, without saying the exact quote, “with great power comes great responsibility.” Sure, it’s not the exact quote - which does bother me a bit - but it’s a variation of it. In Homecoming Peter loses his way trying to impress Tony. And it’s only at the end of the movie, after being knocked down by an irrecoverable loss that he recognizes his need to push through because of the moral compass he has. Pete’s morality is not guided by Tony solely, sure Tony definitely has an influence, but if he was he’d have given up when Tony told him to stop and took the suit. Tony’s a mentor. Second; the crushing tragedy. Homecoming ends with Peter having messed up everything with Liz(the girl he’s had a crush on), her moving away, and her father being the Vulture - yet he decides to continue on being Spider-man despite these crushing circumstances. Also, his humor is his weapon. It’s how he deals with the feeling of being awkward and out of place. It’s a constant battle of not fitting in anywhere, which is so true to the comics. Homecoming nailed the balance of awkward Peter and a good Spider-Man pretty well. The movies not perfect; a younger Aunt May and Peter calling her May seem off, plus the weird Michelle “MJ” thing. But it’s pretty good. That being said, I think the game had an even better story, though I’d agree on Molina being a better Otto than even the game and not liking MJs profession because it’s been done - though I get why, it made her less damsel in distress type character that they felt she would be as an actress.

Homecoming had its moments. It's a very grounded story, and i like that. Not every bad guy should be "I'll kill everyone, because I'm evil!" But let's look at the difference here - do we really think screwing things with Liz was something Pete was going to have a hard time with? in contrast, when the game ended - well, even we knew Peter Parker's world had shifted its axis. His hero turned on him, his last living family died. Also, Yes, Civil War had the quote, but there's been nothing else to even show Ben Parker existed in the MCU. From Pete's room to his attitude. It's not that big a deal, but I think your role models should reflect in your behaviour. To be honest, had they treated the consequences better - TASM could've had one of my favourite endings. Dafoe and Molina both nailed their characters - and the consequences carried through trilogy in everything. From his love life to his lifestyle and job. The animated series Spectacular Spider-Man had the kind of tone and character development they should look into.

And I believe so, that messing things up with Liz could give Peter a hard time. It happens all the time in life. When people mess up things with a potential SO they get bent out of shape completely. Let alone teenagers, who are still figuring out all of their emotions - it can feel like the world is going to end. I’m not arguing that the game didn’t have a better story, because I agree with you that they did. I will argue that Dafoe didn’t portray nearly as great of a character as Molina, though not to Dafoe’s fault. I just don’t think the Green Goblin was written nearly as well as Doc Oc. Though he still did a great job. And i agree it had lasting consequences throughout the trilogy, even if the third one was awful. But I don’t love that Spider-Man. I love the movies, but I didn’t love Toby’s portrayal of spider-man. I thought he was missing much of the humor. I guess we’ll have to see if the next Spider-Man movie continues to build from homecoming. Perhaps they’ll take notes from the game.

I don't agree with everything you said, but I do agree with a lot of it. I usually think I'm in the minority of not liking Homecoming all that much, but nice to see someone who agrees. I think the film ultimately suffers from characters that are more stereotypes than people with depth and a lack of tension or stakes (and too many jokes) and while playing Spider-Man PS4 all I could think was, "This destroys Homecoming's characters and story." All the main cast have defined, clear motivations and arcs, the stakes are always there and always rising throughout, and each character acts like who they're supposed to be. Not to shit on Holland, but a Spider-Man hasn't hit me this hard since Tobey Maguire was in the role and I think that has a lot to do with how the game was written. It's very much scripted and animated like a film, with very cinematic scenes matched with very dramatic character to character sequences. Just watching Peter and MJ interact, or Peter and Otto talk brought back the love I had for what Raimi and his team did for those same characters in Spider-Man too. The game makes them all feel so genuine and so real, with nothing forced like I saw so many times in Homecoming because so many characters were little more than the archetypical character they were pitched as. I'm more excited to see the sequels to this game than I am to see future MCU Spider-Man films, and that says a lot!
