Fun Fact: This created a WAVE in the animation industry with the likes of Puss in Boots 2 and The Bad Guys for stylized 2D and 3D artwork, intentionally lowering frame rates, and becoming more “animated” instead of the Pixar realism. Despite animation being in a “Post-Spider-Verse” era the team is best at it demonstrated in the sequel.

It was mainly 3D much like this movie, but gotta be honest 2D is sorely missed in the genre. The Boy and The Heron was the first 2D animation to win the best animated Oscar in decades, it's crazy because 2D still is the pinnacle of animation and Japanese animators like Miyazaki have been shitting all over 3D stuff for decades, 2D only ever got better.

The roommate is *not* a reference to Tom Holland's spider-man, it's actually the other way around. Ganke Lee, Miles's best friend from the comics, and the first person he confided in. Ned in Tom Holland's Spider-Man films is inspired by Ganke. iirc, the Tom Holland movies using that was the reason he wasn't included *more* in this film, because they didn't want that particular comparison to be made. But they did the quick "best buds" at the end there to lead back to it for the comic fans.

Both Daredevil and this have Wilson Fisk as the prevalent villain, So I thought this would be a good time to bring it up. Additionally, Daredevil being introduced to the MCU might allow for more reactions in the future . Not to mention, there's a reboot in the making.

I’m not really gonna say anything incredibly detailed that hasn’t already been said about this movie’s success, but basically The Bad Guys, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem have someone to thank. Spider-Verse likely wasn’t the first franchise to utilize the 3D-2D combination, but it definitely popularized it and became one of (if not) the most prolific franchises to use it well.

I love the new Noir design because I haven’t seen him since Shattered Dimensions, he’s voiced by Nick Cage, and he’s meta af. “Are we gonna talk about him while he stares at us?” Fun fact: when they animated Miles (especially during his spider arc), he moves at a choppy 2 frames in the 30pfs this movie shoots at while everyone else is silky and smooth at 1 fps. However when he starts to accept the responsibility and expectations of Spider-Man, he begins to smooth out every other frame until the end.

I always found everyone's shock from two Spider-Men funny. As a comic fan myself, it was no surprise to me because not only has Miles been a thing since 2011, before him, there was Peter's Clones & his teenage daughter.

26:44 Before Miles masters his powers, he's animated on twos (a choppier framerate) to make his motions look more staccato and rougher because he's less experienced. All the other Spider-people are animated on ones because they're more graceful. After getting the hang of his powers, Miles gets animated on ones as well, because he can visually handle the fluidity of it.

18:20 I appreciate that when Miles shocks Peter B., you don't see Peter B.'s skeleton like most cartoons would show you, you see his nervous system. Because our nervous systems are what carry electrical impulses to and from our brains. Getting shocked is not the same as getting an X-ray.

I remember at least three "main" spider women. The one called Spider-woman, Jessica Drew, then there's Cindy Moon aka Silk and finally Gwen Stacy as Spider Gwen who now goes by Ghost-Spider I believe. There has been tons of others though. MJ has been one too and one of Peter Parker clones was a woman, she hanged around the X-Men I think...

@H-Man no Spider-Gwen is one of the newer ones. Spider-Woman and Spider-Girl are both long standing characters in the comics. Around the time they started coming up with the idea of the Spider-Verse (some time after Miles got so popular in the comics and they wanted to bring him into the mainline comics cause he originated in an alternate universe) they started coming up with a bunch of ideas including Spider-Gwen but she does have one of the sicker costumes.

13:34 If you pause, you can see the 5 little blobs that shot out of the collider. Each blob was one of the Spider-people you meet later in the movie. You met one already, and she wears teal pointe shoes and has an eyebrow piercing. (She met Miles earlier than the explosion because it sent her back in time.)

50:33 actually Ned is based off Ganke, from the Miles Morales comics. Ned is actually kind of a jerk in the actual comics (I think for Peter Parker or Gwen Stacy’s)

Spidey *is* holding back, because during the whole body switch arc in the comics with Doc Ock; Ock (in Pete’s body) punched Scorpion with full force and dislocated his jaw if I remember correctly. Even Ock was surprised by how much strength this scrawny kid had, but never fully used

Ned is actually from Miles Morales’ story. Peter Parker doesnt have a friend named Ned, thats actually Miles’ guy in the chair and its also the reason he doesnt have much screentime in either spiderverse movies. its because they dont want to seem too similar to tom hollands movies.

36:14 fun fact: in the comics, one of Wolverine’s friends commits suicide by sneaking up on Spider-Man while he was fully wound up from a fight with Wolverine. Spider-Man wasn’t looking and swung as hard as he could, thinking that Wolverine was coming to fight again. Iirc, Wolverine’s friend was on the run from some bad guys and that was the only way out she could find.

9:32 The "coloring" you're talking about is called Chromatic Aberration. The animators used it in place of motion blur or the blurriness you get when something in your vision is out-of-focus.

Also another cool thing to go back and look at, when Miles is learning how to be a Spider-man and struggling early on in the movie. He's actually animated at 12 frames per second instead of the normal 24 which gives him a subtle jankiness to his movements that you won't consciously pick up on but your eye notices something's janky with him.

Also, not a lot of people realize this, but the Peter from Miles's universe is not *our* Spiderman. The second Peter is *our* Spiderman - his life is much closer to what actually happens in the mainline comics, and in some capacity I'm pretty sure he actually is meant to be earth 616 Peter, or at least very close. In the comic lore, Miles lives in the "Ultimate" universe, which is a parallel reimagining of the "canon" Marvel stories.
