The nightmare fuel of my childhood.

Man, seeing the Monster-Ock icon getting within 3 centimetres of your Spidey icon would scare me shitless back in the day.

What made this really scary is that they programmed Monster Ock with the rubber bad effect so that he'd immediately catch up whenever you got ahead of him and slow down to match your running speed when nearby. It gave the impression that he was difficult to outrun when the truth is, it's quite an easy level.

This chase was the only thing in any form of media that completely freaked the shit out of me.

why is it they have this idea for the ultimate villain, Dr octopus with the psychotic carnage symbiote and yet marvel never used it again?! just try and image this thing making gurgling choking noises in live action

This part used to fuck me up so much as a kid. It still holds up as the most high-tension chase I've ever seen in a game.

That's because back in the late 90's early 2000's these graphics stood out pretty well which made this lvl pretty freaky with the creepy noises monster oc made when he chased you but since we have mind blowing graphics now a days I can look back and say meh we came a long way

If they made an HD remake of this game, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

man i loved this fucking level, mosnter ock scared the shit ouf of me the first time i saw a friend playing this level, then when i got to this level with my own game i felt so thrilled that i played this mission over and over till i memorized the whole route and i would show off to my buddies in the neighborhood, 90's kid FTW

I remember this game, one of the best spidey games I played, then they changed the formula and things were never the same again.

Cool childhood memory of mine: on Christmas Eve we get to open one present. Opened Spiderman, stayed up all night and beat before morning, and had a small nightmare about Doc Ock. Badass Christmas.

A great game for the PS1 days. Thank you Fox for playing another one of my childhood game.

after all this years, that scene with Rhino still make me laugh, and this final music is awesome xD

"I never even look at my cards... and I win every hand." - Matt Murdock playing poker in Brubakers run. The reason is he can know if someone is bluffing or has a winning hand based on scent, heartbeat etc. Go fish is just because it's a kids game (oh and he can read the cards with his heightened sense of touch). Daredevil being blind makes him the greatest Poker player in the Marvel universe.

This game was one of the best games ever, alongside Spider-Man VS The Kingpin, Maximum Carnage, and Spider-Man 2 (the movie one, but Enter Electro is good too). IMO they should remake this game on modern consoles, same story, costumes, everything, etc. with some new features like the power/customization in Enter Electro and the freeroaming, webswinging, etc. of Spider-Man 2.

I like how they threw in Ock's goggles/glasses on Monster Ock's icon for no apparent reason. Always got a kick out of that

The first, second, and third missions. The fact that you knew he was in the Jade Syndicate without hearing the "IT'S THE JADE SYNDICATE" line blurted out by Spidey is... impressive. The sprites are so blocky I sure wouldn't be able to tell.

ah Nostalgia... can't remember most of the game unless i see it in a vid tough XD Funny thing is this game had captain america, dare devil and even punisher, even so I never recalled them later on and was mind blown by the movies by finding out these characters existed even tough apparently I have known them years before that >_

I got this game when I was little and when Monster Ock popped up I was so freaked out that I turned the game off and couldn't muster up the courage to actually even attempt to finish the level for at least a dozen times. I'd have to say that if Monster Ock ever popped up in a movie it would be on the same "OH SHIT!" meter as Heath Ledger's Joker.

I think what made this guy scary to me was just the frustration he induced. You know how you're playing a game and you're like "Okay THIS time nothing's gonna stop me. I'm getting through this part!" and you're so determined and so tired of the cutscene before you fail after awhile that you jsut panic about it. Ah good times though. It was probably my favorite Spiderman game at the time and still has alot to offer.

I love it when the hero talks about the buttons on the controller XD "I need to press R1 to zipline up quickly!" "Do it mother fucker!"

I play this game at age 5 had nightmares. I’m 23 now still have nightmares. The noises this demon makes and knowing you have no chance in hell to combat him is horrifying. Also the death scene is brutal for a Rated E game.

I remember that if you didn't get away from him then he beats you up and it's game over. I saw my big bro play it. Monster Ock is the definition of fear and nightmare!

I remember getting the crap scared out of me from this level. I really don't know what they were thinking if they intended for this game to be played by kids... maybe they figured that if you were young enough to get scared by it, you wouldn't make it to the last level? Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty awesome and fun game.. and nostalgic too... but they didn't have to make it so freakin scary!

Monster ock always, even to this day, scares the crap out of me. When i was younger i used have nightmares about this guy, not to say he isn't awesome, but still scary.

I remember playing this when I was, gosh...7,8? This level had me scared for years. I had forgotten about this game until today, when I stumbled back across it. This game was "da bomb"! The only complaint I have with it is that it really should have been rated T. Seriously, a 7 or 8 eight year old like myself back in the day shouldn't have played this. What I would give to play it again now. A true Spiderman classic.

From what I remember, the storyboards didn't have anyone go through the ceiling and it was the Lizard who was supposed to be in the same cell instead of the merc.

As a little baby when I first played this, NOTHING SCARED ME MORE than this boss. I still haven't beaten him by myself, my dad always has for me...

My heart almost stops in that level no matter how many times i play it o.o

Just WATCHING this had me damn scared. I shudder for whoever played this level.

Funny that "caught up" detection is a bit glitchy on this level and you can occasionally get miles behind Monster Ock before death sequence is triggered.
