Love this tutitorial, it got me out of a jam! Spider gears fell out on me, for the life of me I could figure out how to get them back in place. I gave up after 40 mins, took a break and decided to utube it. Bingo, Yukon to the rescue!!! Went back, done in no time! Thanks Yukon!
Thank you soo much!! Ya saved me some hassle I was putting my axle back in and accidently turned it which of course made them fall out. Thanks to your video I was able to reinsert them myself

I used to rough and finish grind those gears and pinnions in the 80's It was a job I enjoyed too.
Thank you for making this video. Saved me a lot of time after having a planetary gear fall out and spent a half hour trying to figure out how to get it back in. With your video it took two minutes to do. Thanks a million.

Thanks a bunch - this had the one thing I was unclear on!
Wonderful and fruitful video. Keep it up.
OUTSTANDING!
Thanks buddy, You saved me a headache.
Great video!
Good job buddy this really a helpful video 5 star
Tip: just use some gear oil to hold the washer to the satellite spider gear while putting it in. Will keep it from falling off..
Thanks for the video is very helpful.
Thank you!
Good video guys
THANK YOU!!!
Hi, great vid, quick to the point tutorials are always the best. One question though, which way do the flats on the side gear shaft face, or doesn’t it matter?
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to try it on my 06 fwd lifted highlander. I heard when you turn. It's open diff but when you're going straight. It locks both sides of the diffs. Definitely need that for mud and a foot of snow...
Wow, thank u
Thanks!👍
Im so just learning this, but i have a question, do the gears have to pressed in to its place?
does the dana 35 rear end suppose to have thrust washers behind the spider gears or can i run it without them
Please Help ! I just rebuilt a GM rear, 10 bolt 7.625 .. All new gears , bearings bolts etc. I got all the specs right , pre - load and backlash etc but after installing the spider gears , I immediately noticed how it seems like there's too much play when turning the yoke back and forth by hand. Is there a backlash spec for the spider gears ? I used new thrust washers on the planetary gears , am I missing something ??
Can you do this mounted on the truck still? Made a mistake and took out cross pin and turned the tire and the spiders popped off. Trying work it back in. I’m new any advice will help!!
Nice video My spider gears turning fine but doesn't turn Axels
thank you
My gears have some play (up and down) and just confused on if that’s normal or what can I do to fix it because I am hearing cluncking in the reat
I just installed my spider gears on an open carrier, when I turn the axles the entire ring gear assembly turns. Why did the spider gears not turn, they seem very stiff?
Are those washers like a spacer and "adjustable" (add or remove for fit, similar to the carrier bearing washers) or is it just 1 per side? I'm trying to figure out if i want to rebuild mine or just buy a new one from somewhere, will need just about everything, not sure about ring and pinion though. Toyed with changing the gearing while I had to have it apart but don't know how to fix speedo for it (1999 ford f150), any tips on that?
Excellent- yes, however what do you do when it's a limited slip? How do you rotate the side gears with all those clutches and discs to rotate the spider gears into place & put the pin through?

I don't know that it would help you but on those I normally put the carrier in a vise stick the axle in one end and turn it with a pair of grips. You can also do a piece of threaded rod through one end of the axle hole with big washers on each side and smash one of the gears in real tight against the clutch packs but generally helps It go in a little easier
Thanks for video, my dana 35 has a lot of lateral \ in out play and alot of roaring noise while making right turns,I see no damage inside rearend and very little meltal shaving. What could be the problem. Thanks in advance

Don't get what your saying entirely but I would check the pinion and carrier bearings if the roaring is coming from rear. Look for play on pinion yolk.
Works great, except how do you do it in the vehicle? The clips on the ends of the axles need to be in place before the spiders, or I will NEVER lock the shaft in. But you did show that the shim plates must go in, and that is important.

Just did my first spider gear install yesterday. I'm sure you already did yours being you posted a year ago. It took me a while to realize that the gears have to be placed directly across from each other. I put the pin through to make sure. First I tried with the washers/shims. Even with grease they would fall off when rotated. I left them off until I got the gears almost in place. I installed the hardest washer first. Then installed the other. Then I rotated to the pin hole. No problem afterwards. I agree. You don't have much clearance when installing the axles and the clips with that pin in there.
im having an issue with your sparton locker. i had it installed but when i released the pins and checked the gap i found the it fell out of tolerance. how do i close that gap

I have never in my life seen spider gears go in that easy you must have that damn carrier grinded out so big it's unreal anybody that's actually had to do that in a real situation knows that that is the pain in the ass to do

@@REsuperGRX7 just something to keep in mind I just ran into I got a brand new set of spider gears from Yukon and couldn't get the some b****** in for the life of me so when I called him they told me that the washers were replaced with a thinner washer set so they sent me a set and the spider gears went in fairly easy after that I'm not sure exactly what you got going on but if you're using new gears that may be your case too hope it helps

@warzonerookie205

@@REsuperGRX7 I'll tell you something you can do that might help you. Taking stick the two bigger spider gears that slide inside the carrier back inside and then run you a bolt through where the axle would go in the carrier of course the carrier has to be out of the rear end and put you some big washers on each side and a nut and tighten that gear up into the carrier that'll allow you a bunch more room to put the spider gears back in the problem with putting spider gears in is them two big gears with the clutch packs or washers on the inside of them they normally hang out and makes it hard as hell to put the washers and spiders back in hope it helps. Only do it to one side of the gear because you'll have to put the axle in the other side to turn the spider gears in hope that makes sense

Also for future reference what I always do is remove the Cross pin get the axle clips off then put the cross pin back in and doing that the spider gears can never fall out

Why do the bolts fail causing y'all to weld the cases closed?
@guspyeatt6803
4 жыл бұрын
if you are referencing the welded cases on our zip lockers, we weld the cases to improve durability on applications where we have seen a pattern failure due to them being installed incorrectly. lack of carrier bearing preload allows housing deflection , and by welding the cases we remove the load from the bolts improving durability and longevity. this allows us to offer the best warranty in the industry on the zip lockers,
