This a part of a much bigger project for a client in Ireland.
This project element was a late addition which gave it some obvious obstacles to overcome.
By using readily available Art-NET to SPi controllers and publicly available software, we have delivered a system that the client can take full ownership of, which means they are free to modify the patterns at will.
Because their entire house has a www.Velbus.eu infrastructure with an openHAB2 UI & logic engine, it becomes possible for any touch panel or any integrated device to influence anything else.

Wauw nice! I already have 16 2812b leds on my stairs. But what hardware did u exactly used on this project. The button, Ir sensor and controller?

Hi It's part of a whole home control system, with a www.Velbus.eu backbone. The glass panels you see are Velbus OLED devices. openHAB2 acts as a protocol translator / logic engine to read the button events and trigger effects with Jinx! or QLCplus And Vice Versa for the feedback LEDs. The Art-NET data from Jinx! or QLCplus is converted into SPi streams by a number of great devices from www.smartshow.lighting

Hello Thank you, for a last minute addition we all think it worked out rather well. This staircase was part of a much bigger project, so rather difficult to give a stand alone price for. The hardware cost isn't ridiculous, it's the installation time that pushes the cost up. If you're able to get the LED strip installed into the stair treads during the manufacturing stage, you'll get a much better finish and save a few hours of labour on site.
