Spend First, Think Later - Til Debt Do Us Part 309 - Life In The Fast Lane
Ойын-сауық
Til Debt Do Us Part offers tough love solutions to those in financial crisis.
In three short years, Lorna and Richard met, married, had a baby and bought a house. They won’t even slow down to cook dinner - and order in almost every night. They’re on the highway to a hellish amount of debt. With a surprise second baby on the way, it’s time for these two to get out of the fast lane and start thinking before they spend.

Honestly, with two young kids, I would just get a second hand couch... at least until they get older.

Being debt free is the most liberating feeling. I know because I use to be 30k in credit card debt. Paid everything off in full have zero debt of any sort own everything and now have 10s of thousands saved up and all this accomplished in the last 13 years.

Use coupons and buy items on sale. Learn how to make the food go further. Use leftovers in other dishes. Vacuum seal things to keep in the freezer. Do home canning. Start a garden lots of ways to still save. Don't eat as much lol

Always buy produce during their prime season and planning menus based on the seasons will always help with the food budget too. Canning and making your own preserves will go a long way to stretch your food budget. Buying in bulk, vacuum sealing meats afterwards will also help too. Even grinding your own meats will be far superior to the store bought counterparts.

@@philippoon8879 Buying in bulk isn't always cheaper. Where i live there aren't any stores like Costco or Sam's club. I live alone so it wouldn't be cost effective. Plus I dont eat meat, tho I do eat a lot of fish. Only have small outside space, and with low price of fruit/veg in our supermarkets gardening wouldnt save me money. One size doesn't fit all.

Agreed...but I don't know how old they are and what their fertility is like. Given that their debt will be paid off before the baby arrives and that all they will have remaining is her student loan debt, if their habits have genuinely changed, they should be okay. Given how young their other kid is, they should have plenty of stuff they can reuse.

Oh, they definitely didn't plan for their second child. This couple is beyond impulsive and in a mad rush for some reason. The beginning where they said they got married, bought a house, and had a kid in one year pretty much solidifies that theory.
I am so surprised how many young couples today jump into marriage and having a baby with no planning whatsoever! Blows my mind

I baked a lot on my teens but my Mom really didn't like us in the kitchen when she was cooking. Plus I was busy after school with sports and after school club activities. I still don't like to cook but love to bake. I do cook and occasionally make a delicious meal but not very often. I made black bean and rice from scratch tonight on my woodstove. I added some leftover canned soup and it was great. I have enough for tomorrow and the next day. It's cheap, nutritious and delicious.

I had an exercise once that cured people who just leaped ahead and started doing stuff before reading all instructions. There were 6-12 complex tasks listed, then you turned the page over, and the next instruction was to disregard the 6-12 tasks on the other side and just do one simple thing. You could look around and see who read them first and those that just jumped in...

If not for COVID and inflation (probably caused by the two year lockdown), I would have kept cooking a few set dishes and take out but it forced me to learn to cook every day and now I love it. Ironic, isn't it.
There should be three categories: fixed, fixed variable and wants.
Getting a hatchback, or a sedan would be much cheaper.
I preferred the straight in the bag method - less washing up!
This couple is a mess. Point blank, they can’t afford the child they have now, let alone everything else they’ve been blowing their money on, and now they’re going to have another one. So the extra income she’s bringing in will go poof, along with the original (insufficient) income she was bringing in, while she’s on maternity. I would find it very difficult to talk about their financial future without using the word “doomed.” 🙄

Though they took Gail by surprise, she could tell that they were going to do what they could to prepare for the baby before it comes and not disrupt their plans. One year I didn't have full time employment and actually had every Monday off, but I wanted to work as much as possible, so the other teachers scheduled doctors' appointments and such stuff on Mondays and booked me far in advance. The school gets a sub who knows their way around the school, knows all the school rules, probably knows the students and is familiar with the regular teacher. The students always appreciated meeting someone they already knew (and liked; if they had disliked me they probably wouldn't have been as thrilled).
