I look at things this way. I WAS that Spectrum guy at the field when everyone else was on Futuba! I started in the hobby with a DSM2 protocol Dx6i, which was flawless for years on my .50 nitro heli and .60 powered Yak54 and 'trainer' aircraft, as I was not stupid enough to run the receivers on too smaller battery packs that would have run the risk of brown out. Then after a 5 or so happy years, I 'upgraded' to a DSMX Protocol DX8. Bind up and test to the existing AR600 in my Yak went fine (same DSMX/DSM2 receiver as used on the Dx6i), nothing to give me concerns. First flight on that DX8, all we had to do after the flight was to go pick up all the tiny little pieces of my Yak54 after it went straight into the dirt with zero control. I later tried that DX8 on a small park flyer as a test since I was reluctant to accept that the radio was at fault, as why should I be after years of happy use on the 'cheaper' model radio - that park flyer flew like a jittery glitching little pig all over the place as it bounced around looking for signal, all while I was keeping it close to give it the best chance of retaining signal (the Yak was lost at about 80-100 meters away i think). For safety/personal reasons, i ended up getting a 14SG Futuba after finally accepting that the DX8 was nothing more than an unreliable POS (despite a number of other guys at my fields loosing planes the same way using DX8's - ie loss of all controls/signal), NEVER have I had a signal issue on that Futuba radio!! Even when using the 'cheaper' FHSS receivers vs the more expensive FASST or FASSTest receivers - oh, and that jittery glitchy pig of a park flyer, it now flies sweeeeeet with a radio that can maintain signal. So, if people take anything from this, it is that my personal experience with Spectrum was bitter sweet in as far as I witnessed both the good and bad of their products, and I fought for loo long before waking up and dropping their systems. As for Futuba, ever plane I have flown on it flies better, and with a more secure signal that I can trust! For me, being able to trust your radio equipment when flying expensive models is worth more than unfounded brand loyalty, and as stated, I trust my Futuba radio!

I had a dx-8 was a killing machine!I had an old nitro trainer (got for free)I use to fly it crazy for fun push it to it 's limits as a trainer.it lost control dived in the woods total signal lost than my favorite p-51 on a dx8 to !I had at least 10 deadstick landing on it flown it for years. The last flight was the same thing I had nothing, zero control ouch! That one model dx-8 was a flagship. Flown 5-6-7-9 's they all were flawless !

In regards to the sattelite recievers ,Spektrum realized they had brownout issues so this was their fix to try and achieve a more robust link . I have flown for years on Futaba and never had a problem, I tried a Spektrum radio because it was a gift and lost four planes through loss of signal ,just my two cents worth.

Price always dictates for me. Futaba has been around for ever and has been tried and true. I have a Tactic and never experienced brown out. It does like batterys. Glad to see your daughter doing this hobby too. My youngest always had interest in whatever dad did. Now she is a mom and my grand daughter will be more than welcome to fly with me. Sprktrum tainted my waters with the 6i after watching two planes nose into the dirt. I only use it for UMX planes and it works. I refuse to use it for anything requiring programming to any degree. I have two DX5e and they are bullet proof. When I can afford a great transmitter, I will buy a good Futaba. I have two of the 72hz ones I use for other stuff.

When I came into RC, back in 1973, I bought what was available, THEN. I bought an RS radio, used and it was fine. Wasn't long before I wanted something new, so I bought an EK Logictrol radio from Texas Instruments. Living in Dallas, I thought, for service, it would be local, so I bought the radio. A year or so went by, and the radio of choice, then was a Kraft radio. Just coming into Pattern, I bought a 5 channel, single stick. Didn't take long to realize the single stick wasn't for me, so I bought a new Futaba, 9 CAP. I still have this radio today, 2020, after only 2 service checkouts and 24 years of ownership. Fully digital, but not a smart radio. I have never needed a smart radio, so I just keep the batteries charged, and fly, fly, fly! No problems of any kind. I did, recently, send my radio to the Futaba service to get a new right stick assembly, since the right stick gets far more use than the left. I continue to fly, now, monthly, and all without one lick of glitch or problem of any kind. Buying a new radio can, and will, be expensive, but know that you always get what you're paying for. If you have a flight simulator at home, it's fine to have a $20-30 radio that comes with the simulator. I have, in my opinion, the best simulator on the market today, and for the past 15 years, and that is "AeroFly Professional Deluxe". Tower use to sell it, but no more. It's German made, and maybe that's why it's so good. It cost me $100 10 years ago, and I believe it's still only around the $125 range. Comes complete, and you won't regret it. I used a friends current Tower hobby, "Real Flight", and really didn't like it. Compared to the AeroFly, there was no comparison. Back to the radios, Futaba is, to me, the only radio to buy. If I were to buy a new radio, it would be the Futaba 10JA, T-FHSS system. Ten channels, yes, and plenty of room to grow. It's $399, and worth every cent of that. I'm sure Spectrum is good as well, and everyone seems to have one, except me. I never follow the crowd. I'm a retired medical engineer, understand electronics, and the why's of it's operation. I am very satisfied with my Futaba radio purchase so many years ago, and stand behind what I say. Buy what you wish, but just remember, "Be careful what you wish for". Best of luck, and know that if you are new to this Great hobby, there will be more than just a few times when you will be flying, and have to say all of a sudden, "Dead Stick", then try to make it back to the field to land your plane without power, as your engine has quick. Now that's another story!

Enjoyed your video. All brands of radios are like car brands. They all have a lot of common issues. Remember when Toyota was plastered all over the news for unintended acceleration after the police officer got killed in the Avalon crash several years ago. Nothing was said about the other car companies even though they all use the same technology. I worked for Toyota at the time. If you looked on line you could find out the numbers of reports of every company having the same problem. Bough said.

And to be clear on my earlier comment, I lost the plane when contact was lost and it flew into the ground. But I don't blame that on Futaba. It could have been because of a battery issue or a faulty connector. The RCSB investigation wasn't able to determine a probable cause.

My first radio was a Futaba 6P-6FN in 81 from there 7 FGK, 9C,14SG, my current radio is the 18SZ paid $164 for the FP-6FN in 81,and just under a grand for the 18SZ which will provably be my last radio it does everything I could possibly want and more! as you can see I'm a Futaba man other than a loose antenna in my 9C, and some 72mhz glitches with my 7FGK at the end I've had no problem with Futaba in the last 42 years. JR would be my 2nd choice, but heard recently about its demise, so Futaba it is😊

You're totally right there are very few if any bad radios. You should choose the one you like. I would say that a £2,000 Jeti will be better than a £50 Hobby King special but you pays your money and takes your choice even Rolls Royce cars break down from time to time. Generally for more money you get more channels or switches or pots or telemetry or other doo dads. Re the spectrum satellites its not for additional range its for diversity of signal. My opinion for a starter radio would be a Spektrum DX6 and I fly a FrSky X10 running OpenTx.

I agree radios are radios. I witnessed one day at our local fun fly three different brands of radios have an "issue". Two, Hitec A9's, Airtronics SD10 and a unknown model Futaba. One of the Hitec's was mine. All the problems happened in the same location off the north end of our runway. So go ahead and pick your poison. It doesn't matter. You will get a bad radio from time to time and you will have an "issue" from time to time.

I've had three spektrum transmitters fail in 13 months and the one I've got now came up with an error message yesterday. One transmitter failed with and aircraft airborne which caused a crash. The other annoying thing they do is turn models into unusable models then you have to delete them and re-enter them.

Spektrum had a issue with the DX18 soon after it was introduced. They recognize it, issued a recall and fixed it. The problem was in notification.. Hobby shops failed to notify their customers and as a result many aircraft were lost. Production issues can occur with any manufacturer, how quickly they solve the problems effects the company’s reputation.

I've been in this hobby from Single Channel Orbit and Orbit Reeds Kraft Reeds to Orbit Analog System Single Stick. To now Futaba has been in business long before these so called DX JR FlySky Exc. I've been modeling for 66 years now I have 4 7C Futaba 1 14SG. Remember Quality is Rememberd Well After The Price.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have had nothing but problems with my newly purchased NX10. One of the gimbal limiter access panel covers fell off, screen saver was peeling, took it off, screen below scratches very easy. Handl in the back broke off from me hardly putting any weight when standing up, and then the aluminum carrying case hardly fits the controller. Overall unimpressed and would give the company two stars. I am a medium intermediate helicopter pilot and a advanced-intermediate rc airplane pilot

They want you to buy 3 radios or products versus on. But he's right you dont need the biggest baddest thing on the market. But do buy something you can grow into not bare bones

Thank you for the kind words. I started this chanel to help take the fear of building. I did some arfs as well to shorten each build series but there are helpful tips that can be applied in most aspects of assembling/building rc airplanes. As far as the turbines go, we all know those are very expensive, this chanel being funded by me, it's going to take a while to get to the point where I can make videos lol.
