I'm re-purposing an AR636 and need to change the receiver orientation. Programmer used to have a menu item called Receiver Orientation but I don't see that any more. Soooo, how do we change the receiver orientation using Programmer?

Dave - Please help me out! Do we have the ability to setup flapperons without giving us AS3X on Channel 6 (the second Aileron). I'm racking my brain to get this to work, but just don't having any joy.

Hi Brian, are you wanting to set it up with SAFE? It can be done but was a little more advanced than what I wanted to share in this series. I’m actually working on a plane right now I can do some testing on, but normally once you set the firmware to 2.xx (SAFE Compatible firmware) it removes the flaperon wing type. You have to do some trickery to get it working. Shoot me an email to rcairmarshall@gmail.com and we can discuss in more depth via email or a phone call.

How do you set up which way round the receiver is placed in the plane ... i.e inputs facing towards the back or front ?

When I plug in my cable to update my receiver, nothing happens, I cant click connect, or power cable, any ideas why thats happening?

I purchased used receivers online and can't update them because SPS tells me they are registered to another account. Help?

Where can I import the planes from? I have the ar636b and I want to put it in a Conscendo Advanced.

I'm sure this is in one of your excellent how-to videos somewhere, but I'm not finding it. I have an AR636B receiver that came in an AeroScout that I'm using in a different airplane. I want only the gyros on, and anything to do with SAFE off permanently and by default (no TX switches). I have the Spektrum Programmer and USB cable, and have used it to change other AS3X receivers (familiar with it). Is there a way to use the programmer to disable the SAFE features of this RX? If not, is there another way to do it? Same question for AR636 and AR636A of which I have (they all seem to be a little different). Thanks!

So I actually do not address this in this series because it documents specifically how to add SAFE. With that said, it’s pretty easy to take SAFE out. A couple of ways you can approach it. First, always make a backup of your settings in the Spektrum programmer that way you have something to fall back on if it all goes haywire. From here you can export the model settings from the Spektrum Programmer and load them into the SAFE Model Builder, then uncheck all the SAFE settings from each flight mode, save the profile and import it back into Spektrum Programmer and load into the receiver. The other option that would work is take all the gain and priority settings, load the receiver with the 1.43 Firmware, and build up a new model using the gain and priority settings from the original. That’s a couple of ways to do it.

What receiver do you have plugged in? The items in the left pane only populate when you connect a device that supports those menus.

If you set up duel rates and expo does that mean you can't change it in the transmitter?

You CAN change it in the transmitter, but it will skew the numbers even more as you’re now adding expo to a control surface already programmed with Expo. You should really only do it in one place or the other, and even Spektrum on BNF models has D/R & Expo values at 100%/0 for all surfaces on nearly every model. So I just leave them at 100/0 in the receiver and do all D/R & Expo settings in the transmitter. Works great.

Hello. I have the AR636A sports receiver can i use it with this tutorial? I wan't to put it in the Arrows Marlin edf plane and use the safe funktion. I pulled the AR636A out of my Conscendo Advanced glider from Horizon. Thank's for a super guide:) Regards Bo

Allan Petersen should work great! Something to keep in mind, when you’re updating the firmware, you may want to go back to a 1.xx version and then upgrade to the latest 2.xx version so it will take the new calibration after the firmware upgrade. Other than that little tip you should be able to follow along no problem. If you can register the receiver you’ll be able to do everything in the guide. If you can NOT register the receiver, it means that it is locked and unfortunately there is no way to unlock them. So, if it’s locked it’s a no go, if you can register, it’s unlocked and you can do whatever you want!
