SPEEDSCAPING DUEL - TAKAYUKI FUKADA VS. STEVEN CHONG

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The clash of the Titans. A duel between two world-renowned aquascapers: the Master - Takayuki Fukada, and his apprentice at the Tokyo Aquascaping Union, Steven Chong. They both have exactly 1.5 hours to finish a 60p tank each - they say they do these speedscaping sessions often in Japan. The winner is decided by vote and his planted tank will be displayed at the Green Aqua Gallery. The looser's layout is auctioned on location. The only question is: who will win? The Sensei or the Padawan? Filipe Oliveira from Aquaflora joins us to help make a decision.

An honor and privilege to be hosted at Green Aqua and challenge the world's greatest layouter! Also thanks to Green Aqua for helping us film a short vid on the TRAINING method of Speed Scaping: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qHeBmbCqldHcpqw.html A good vid for beginner's to learn the method-- how to train like a TAU member and sharpen your aquascaping skills. Much Aloha to the beautiful world of aquascaping! (Also I figured out why I keep accidentally saying "wonderful", it's because Josh did it too and it stuck in my head-- blame the master course and Balazs' sense of humor)

Fantastic job all around! I have to say both tanks are amazing with each one having their own idea. If i had to select one it would be Steve cause I love the bold look of the aquascape. Having Filipe as the final judge, who could ask for anyone better than the master himself. The other thing to consider in this video is SPORTSMANSHIP, even though it was a competition, both men complimented each others work. With Takayuki Fukada as the master and Steven Chong as his apprentice, the relationship between each other and compassion of each other work really shows. THANK YOU Green Aqua for setting up this friendly competition!

Hi guys! Great way to start the day. I don't regret on picking Fukada's work but I understand why KZread picked Steven's work now. In picture looks bold, more impressive but live, Fukada's tank is more impressive, this why the audience there picked his tank too. Some tanks look better in picture than live, but we need to take in consideration the time the tank will need to mature and Fukada's tank will look more impressive afterwards. Take good care of yourself and stay safe.

I would have paid $700 CAD for that tank. And even then it would have been a deal. In Canada, the rock alone might have cost that. The tank would have been about $250. Rock like that is around $10/kg, looked like he used close to 50kg, around $60 for that much wood. Plants would have cost at least $50. Substrate around $50. So in total it would have cost just under $1000 for me to buy all the stuff to do it myself. Can I place an order for three of them? What a deal! It was so nice! They both were, but I liked Steven's better. More dramatic.

I don’t know if we are supposed to make a vote for the scape we prefer but Mr S. Chong’s is so much better. It’s less busy and a lot tidier than the older gentleman’s scape. However, speedscaping is not a good idea. It should be thought provoking, relaxing and therapeutic. Just what we need at the present time. Great video guys, nicely presented Tommy. Kind regards to Balazs.

  • @GreenAquaShop

Cheers, thx for the regards! Well, I think speedscaping is a good practicing of your scaping skills, I agree with Steven there. The more scaping one does the better his or her works will be, no question about it. Most will scape a tank, watch it for 2 years and then do another one. This means that they will do some 10 scapes in 20 years. That is just too little.

  • @GreenAquaShop

It depends on the tank size relative to the filter size, the big round one was not maintained for a year now, haha, and still healthy, spotless... :) Will do a video on that. But I would say at our current gear planning level we need a filter cleaning every 2-3 months or so. And it's like 15 minutes to clean a filter like this.

'Vietnam', 4x Vesicularia ferriei 'Weeping' moss, 7x Eleocharis parvula mini. Out of these the two possible ones could be the Parvula or the Tenellus. I did not open the video to tell which one. The parvula is grass, Tenellus is a bit higher and has thicker leaves.
