SPEEDING BOATS On The RIVER TRENT | Torksey Lock To Fiskerton By Narrowboat In One Day Ep 37

We unexpectedly ended up in the middle of a boat race in our narrowboat! At the end of a long day, cruising our narrowboat from Torksey Lock back on the tidal section of the River Trent to Cromwell Lock, and on to Fiskerton, we had to deal with speeding boaters!

Great log peaceful trip the racing boats do not realize the effect they have on a narrow boat. the fire is unusual to see but the fire engine looked like it was doing its job and had a good supply of water close by in case they run dry .thanks for taking us along will see your next vlog Stay safe Ed 40 S of Vegas xx

Very true Ed! I don't think they do realise the impact of their wake! We were glad to see that fire under control. It looked to be some hedges on fire, probably caused by the extreme high temperatures and lack of rain. Thanks for watching 😊

Thank you for the video. Nice to come home after a long day on the road. (130 miles) Took the 'boss' to her doctor appointment to UW Madison, Wis. Lovely warm day 84F for a high and very windy. Soon everyone will be on the water here. Some cooler weather again by beginning of next week. (50F) Take care, hope the puppies and both of you are doing well.

Hope she is all OK now! Our daughter in Madison called to say it was in the 80s! Unbelievable when she had a foot of snow a couple of weeks ago! Take care 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard Welcome to the Midwest. Snow one week then spring summer in days. Hope the daughter is doing well. Lovely area of the country. Madison is always voted near the top of the list of places to live. Haven't been up there for a year. Fun to see all the new places being build. Sad to see some of the old places gone though at times. Take care

Was a great looking day to be outside. The boat race section brings to mind the 1970s and our family taking the canoe out on Lake Tobesofkee in Macon, Georgia, USA, _(HEY WOW! I still know how to spell it! Browser spell checker doesn't but I do)_ 😁 where large deep-vee powerboats would apply every bit of horsepower they had plus some apparently borrowed from NASCAR and create what looked from our canoe like tsunami sized wakes. We had to turn perpendicular to the wake waves and take them head on with the canoe bucking like a bronco at a rodeo. Even at this moment decades later I can remember the sound of our Grumman aluminum canoe's bow slamming down again and again as the wake wave peaks passed.

I’m still unsure about those tidal rivers, not sure I’d want to be on there single handed. Lovely vlog again guys, shame those speeding idiots caused your things to fall. The party boat looked like fun xx

We met quite a few single handers, and the system they have for finding a buddy boat for the tidal section is great. It's a totally different experience to the canals, and well worth it, and wasn't at all as scary as we had anticipated! You can do it for sure 😊

We did Cromwell to Torksey without the guide, ran aground and had to wait 3 hours for the tide to change. Needless to say, we bought a guide at Torksey 🙃

Hi Peter, Caroline, Poppy and Hamish. Was it just me or was that first party boat ( the one which was listing) very overcrowded? What was burning out in the field? Is there a speed limit on rivers? Please stay well. Leigh

Not too sure about the party boat but there did seem to be a lot of people on board didn’t there. The speed limit on the rivers is 6mph, so far far slower than those speeding boats were going! There were hedges on fire in the field that we think was caused by the extremely hot temperatures and very unusual lack of rain. Hope you are well 😊

On the non-tidal rivers the speed limit (as per the Canal & River Trust) is 6mph, and 4mph on the canals. These speeding boaters were on the non-tidal section of the River Trent, so well over the speed limit. On the tidal section it's harder to stay within the 6mph limit as the tide just carries you, depending on the speed of the flow. Thanks for watching 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard That would mean that if the tide was flowing out at 8 mph, you'd have to put the engine into reverse to go forwards at the speed limit!
