Yeah. Talking about the harp is a little like asking your sister for advice on French kissing before your first date. David Barrettt actually breaks it down pretty scientifically in his lessons, which is cool, but also kind of weird, because I taught myself all the bends and such, just trying to get a particular sound, and when something worked, I kept doing it. Greene's advice for just practicing that lick, over and over, faster and faster, until it's muscle memory, pretty much describes how you get better at any instrument. You figure out the notes, however you can, as slow as ya gotta, a few notes at a time, if necessary. Then it's just repetition, with a conscious effort to make it faster and smoother.
Too cool for words. Wonderful and inspiring.
Awesome Buddy Greene! I addition to exceptional talent, You have the kind of sweet face that every mom could be proud of! Love your videos!!

Cotronixco AMEN! Yes Buddy is a believer.
annointed harmonica player. thank you, Lord!
That was a great interview with Buddy Greene, and his last few comments on how long it takes to "get ready for a show," is important when I talk with folk about playing the diatonic reed harps for Celtic music. Like any instrument, takes a lot slow, methodical preparation that soon becomes second nature. Thanks - KelticDead
Simply great he is. No words to appreciate.
Bravo Buddy : grand artiste de l' harmonica .
He’s such a talent.
Thanks from Nepal and it's very inspiring.

Great interviews
This is a great piece on speed playing! It reinforces something I saw on one of Lee Sankey's videos, namely, start slow, break a riff down into smaller "chunks," memorize it, then speed it up. Great stuff!
HE'S FANTASTIC ON THE HARMONICA
It is nearly impossible, you are a great artist!
Chapeau chef ! I m french ^^ is so good!!!
great video
Awesome :)
Thank you! I'll try to contact him then :)
greetings from Poland

Fantastic musical performance !
I have been playing Hohnner chromatic harmonicas for the past 57 years. I can only play so fast. I can play a lot of tunes, rock pop, jazz, traditional, blues, bluegrass and folk
i would love to hear him performancing "Whiskey in the jar"
awesome
Some great tips there buddy.. maybe one day.!!
Very helpful
Thanks, Buddy Greene for Mary did you know.... :)
You cannot breathe in and our as fast as he changes notes, the secret in the fluttering of the tongue on the ports.
The first tune is Whiskey Before Breakfast.
Yes this is the process
Jaw movement explains my mystery concern from Carnige Hall performance - his head not hands didn't much. I wondered. Thanks.
Yes, he said "The Merry Priest, it's an Irish Tune." Contact him on his website, maybe he can help you find it...
Excelent gaitista, gold and blues
um would you mind telling me what song that was he was playing at the begining?
Buddy Greene you play good music on your harmonica I wish I could learn how to play like that

just play and try to learn something new, if you put some hours there is no way you won't learn. The problem is that we want to learn quickly but honestly it takes time to get where Buddy is. After 3 days I can play as well the tune he plays at 5.20. Good luck
I love Buddy. Taught him everything he knows...
Ooh yes Buddy and a bit of Steve jobs
Masters come with many blessings even for Kings
Whiskey Before Breakfast
Hey buddy saw you laity lodge 2009 January
Actually that Irish fiddle tune is "The Musical Priest" and it's easier to play in 4th position (as I have for decades) than 3rd
That's God working through that man...no other way to explain that.

Christina Harper with that name you were born for it
is that a low D harp ? paddy richter tuning ? I can start to get in on a G harp, but he goes lower and that means a really fast bend on the 2 draw....

Hello janstubemusikz. In his interview on BluesHarmonica.com he speaks of the harmonicas he's using. I assume you're speaking of the opening, he's using a G Harmonica, country tuned.

thanks David ! yes, I was. I'm just getting that tune on a regular D harp for now... I need to watch the whole thing ! I wonder if country tuning is same as paddy richter... or almost so.

The Irish tune, Musical Priest in Bm, can be played on a Low D harp. Paddy Richer (the third blow reed one tone higher) is great for most Irish tunes, however is not needed with this tune as you start at a higher position, bypassing the third blow note.
No, it's God given Talent !

Yeah. It's easier to land - or at least appear to land - on the 3-bend that gives you the 5th (when you're playing in 3rd position). You've got a nice natural 5th with the 6-draw, but to get the 5th down below the root on the 4-draw, you gotta bend that 3-draw. It's easier to play that 3-bend in 3rd position as a passing note in minor blues or a pick-up note than it is to land on it, clean, with good tone and hold the note, for instance "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," where the "way" in "way up high" requires a 3-bend, if you're playing it in 1st position. And ya gotta sustain it, and it's gotta sound clean and melodic. It's worth working on, because the "up" part of the phrase "way up high" is so evocative. The audience's ear will forgive that 3-bend a lot easier if you're playing fast as opposed to slow.
Actually, the song is titled "Musical Priest".

The Tongue and lips does most of the work, and you can't show that., breath control is the second element., with breath control, in and out, and the tongue selecting the port and the lips limiting how many ports., HEY man it takes a lot of practice.,
musician steve jobs
Or maybe it's hard work and exorcise of ability. Try hard. Maybe you'll do something too. Chalk it up to some man in the sky and you'll end up doing nothing, and praying a whole lot. Hey, if that works, more power to someone who's not you. However, I think the hard work will probably be a better way to go.
I haven’t seen him playing a song, we all know there is no melody in his music.
