Speed of the Sound of Loneliness (John Prine Cover)
Музыка
I want to say thank you to William for requesting this John Prine song… it just so happens to be one of my favorites too, so you really were giving me an excuse to learn and spend time with something I already loved. Thank you.
And although I may not look it- I really am happy for it :)
There is something to be said about a song that you can really feel… I wouldn’t necessarily call it sadness though. It’s just… emotion. It reminds me that we are human and makes me feel connected. Even when there is pain, just like a lullaby, there is beauty and calmness there too. Not unlike after a storm has passed through…
My heart is full and goes out to you♥️
I am happy you are here. Thank you all for listening. x

There’s never much in it for me when people or bands record covers with the intent of trying to sound exactly the same. If you’re going to record a cover, make it your own. Be that really obvious or subtle is not what matters. That it is you, is what matters. Beautiful cover. I have no doubt John would love it.

And I agree… for me, the song will kind of naturally evolve into something a little different as soon as I stop trying to steer it and let go of what it’s “supposed” to sound like. WOW, how breathtakingly beautiful is this performance?! ✨ By miles the best cover of this timeless song I’ve ever heard! Big bravo, Kelli, absolutely splendidly done! 👏👏👏 John Prine must be smiling down, nodding approvingly from the heavens and saying, 'You did it your own beautiful way, Kelli, you’re simply the best!' After a brief moment of listening, it's clear your stunning voice has the heartfelt beauty to touch hearts, in a very pure, simple and authentic way. Very nice performance Kelli, I like your voice even better than Nanci Wilson’s. Your version is so believable, like you're pouring your heart out. This is one of John Prine’s best songs in MHO. His wife Rachel was playing bass and singing with him at the time - always made me wonder if it was about them. It's like musical candy - it’s so good and then suddenly you realize how complex it is. A simple song with lyrics that are painfully gorgeous and heartwrenching. So what in the world’s come over you?/ What in heaven’s name have you done?” - begs the question - Isn’t what we have enough ? Seems that the one leaving doesn’t want to keep running at the speed of the sound of loneliness. They want something new, something akin to contentment, which, ironically, is only fulfilling when they recognize that what you have IS ENOUGH. Because it is. It’s like the one who left somehow equates the stability they have with `being in a cage. They have a need to reach for something they don’t have in order to quiet the echos of desire. It reminds of people abusing a drug like heroine - always looking for that higher high, until it kills them and leaves a lot of collateral damage. The sad thing is that running-whether to or from something-eventually wears thin - and usually leaves the person they left always wondering what they could have done to stop the Exodus. Again Kelli - it was a wonderful cover! Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words Charles- they mean so much… It’s funny- you may already know the technicalities of why I’m playing better than I do :) I started out playing the song as written (G, C, D), and over the course of a few days, it kind of just changed bit by bit… I will keep the little things that feel right- albeit, some even start out as mistakes. When I started alternating down to the A string in D7/G… it almost sounded like it didn’t quite belong, but for some reason I became attached to it anyway. As corny as it sounds- I don’t really know what I’m thinking about when I’m playing… it’s all kind of based off of what “feels” right in the moment. Sorry, that’s probably not a great explanation, haha.
@charlesl5894

@@kellimoyle I'm just starting to understand the technicalities of this stuff. Like you, I started out by playing the song as written. Then I heard your interpretation. I think your C to D7/G instead of C to D not only sounds beautiful but compliments the story so well. And like you, I start off learning a song as played by the original artist and then through covers (like this one) and mistakes, and experiments, it evolves. So fun!!! I would love to hear what you might do with "If I Needed You" by Townes Van Zandt.

@@kellimoyle Thank you so much, Kelli! I am feeling better. The worst part (for now) is one of the seven drugs they have me taking called, Brilinta. The major side effect is what they call, "Sleep apnea-like symptoms." I actually feel like I am suffocating, just as I am drifting off to sleep. It is maddening! They tell me that of any of the medications I take, this is THE most important one, because it makes my blood platelets "slippery" so they wont clog up the stent and cause another heart attack. So, reluctantly, I will keep taking it. It is nearly two weeks since I had the heart attack (6/29) and they say that the side effects should start to diminish, after about a month. The saying, "One day at a time" never rang so true! Thank you for your kind thoughts, Kelli!
