Yes - that is what I came to the conclusion of. The blocks make it easier to keep the structure intact, but at the cost of effect. So I stuck with the silks.

@@martinsmagic I am confused. What do you mean by changing into small blocks? Do you mean that the intact 3x3x3 would break up into little cube blocks? Geoff Williams has an effect called Rubreaks Cube that does that.
