I have to agree with the fact that this movie COULD have and SHOULD have been better. This scene is incredibly well done. The anticipation of the liner getting closer to the oil tanker is incredibly nerve racking, and the actual collision scene is intense. I love the different angles we are shown to see the scale of the collision. Yes, the movie is a mess but this scene alone is very entertaining to watch.

1:57 the laugh of Sandra Bullock is epic

I never will understand why so many people disliked this movie. Even without Keanu Reeves, it boosts a fair amount of tension and suspense. Like, can they stop the ship before it crashes into an oil tanker or anything else? I just hope time has been kind to it over the years.

this movie may have been considered trash, but this sequence is one of my all time favorites.....just the thunderous crashes and shrieks of tearing metal as tens of thousands of tons smash together at speed on the ocean....epic!!!!

One good scene makes no good movie. The whole thing is boring compared with SPEED

Love the music, and the build up. This movie could have actually been great if Keanu came back (no offense to Jason P) and if the studio let the film be rated R rather than tone it down to PG-13 because the budget was so high. This film needed the brutality of the first film to make you take it seriously, it's hard when it's so family friendly. This sequence is the best part of the film.

One of my favorite movies when it came out. Still one of those I recommend to others when asked.

For anyone who has seen 2 large ships make contact this clip is just to dump, just a small bump between 2 ships that are this heavy will do damage, let alone 2 ships ramming at this speed.

I'll always love this movie. Better than most of them today.

1:40 imagine forgetting to see on the window

The two characters taking turns to steer the wheel due to limited oxygen is something I want to see in a better movie

The port propeller wasn't working. That's why they had to turn the starboard wheel because the propeller on that side was still spinning.

The Director truly rushed this film and since it’s the same guy who did Speed and Twister, sheesh no wonder and directly after Twister too a year later. Plus they should’ve added more plots, deleted scenes and bad guys in this film instead of only Dafoe being the main villain but I guess they didn’t want to copy Under Siege (1992) at all lol. Steven Seagal would’ve been pissed especially to see that in this film.

They didn't turn the wheel, they turned it by manually using the bow thrusters (the two guys who are taking turns and turning that small wheel).

Hollywood made 4 big budget ship/boat themed disaster movies in 90s. Three movies didn't do well, while last one was all time blockbuster. The three movies that didn't do well at box office are Waterworld (Yet I Loved Movie), Speed 2(Not entirely bad movie), Cutthroat Island (bigger flop than Waterworld, considering that Universal recovered Waterworld investment through its theme park, which was huge success). The All time Blockbuster was Titanic

I actually used to love this film when I was younger, but to be honest it's actually pretty crap. It's worth bearing In mind it's only about action, because in reality it's full of inaccuracies about how ships really work. This particular scene highlights two such inaccuracies, one being that bow thrusters are driven by either an engine or electric/hydraulic motors, not a hand-cranked wheel. The other being that bow thrusters usually have little or no effect if the ship is moving, particularly at more than around 2-3 knots.

The ship was moving at less than 20 knots. The whole scene following this one they are literally tracking the speed of the ship in knots.

The Seabourn Legends reminds me of the Poseidon Adventure 2005 movie.
