Species Spotlight | Yellowtail Damselfish

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Aquatics expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of the Yellowtail Damselfish! Endemic to densely populated coral groupings in sheltered lagoons and inshore reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific, the Yellowtail Damselfish is as stunning as it is easy to care for. An immensely popular fish in the saltwater hobby, the Yellowtail Damselfish is compatible with a wide variety of species thanks to its confident, boisterous nature. Be sure to provide them with sufficiently large aquariums to accommodate their territorial behaviors!

Damselfish are quite territorial, and with a pair of clownfish already in the tank, there won't be much room for them! Something like a small goby would probably be a better choice. 👍

Hi there! This color change could be the result of stress, improper diet, disease or other factors. We recommend testing your water parameters and consulting with a local fishkeeping group to get the advice of experienced hobbyists!

can I keep 1 or 2 of these in a 29 gallon with a pair of clownfish?

We'd go with 1 - with 2, it's likely the more dominant one will harass / hurt the other!

It depends on the other fish in the tank, but yes, Yellowtail Damselfish are compatible with Clownfish!

This is my experince keeping these guys. These guys are honestly a poor man's version of a regal blue tang that you can ethnically keep in a desktop nano tank. These guys are damselfish, so they are bound to be aggressive. However, the same can be said for an established pair of clownfish. They won't go after the bottom dwelling fish. Tankmates bascally an established older clownfish that's just as aggressive as the damsel. My main worries is that ocellaris comon clownfish would go after the damsel like how they killed my springer Springer damsels are peaceful and are best for a peaceful community tank and newer pair of clownfish. Its unfortune my clownfish turned out to be aggressive. I added new rock work, damsel was in the breeder boxs, and everything seem out to work out fine. These guys are so docil and Timid. You guys want to keep semi aggressive, it should be agressice fish last, add new hiding places, and put them in a breeder box for a couple days. Planning making an anemone only tank to keep aggressive fish only like my clowns and damsel.
