I think it's worth adding here that all three of us have a qualification in translation in addition to the other qualifications we mentioned in the video. Translation qualifications didn't get mentioned in the video much because they don't have a lot to do with *becoming specialised*. But that should not be taken to mean that a translation degree isn't important or useful.

Hi Cassandra, im a bilingual nurse with translation experience and im wondering if I absolutely need a degree in translation to become a medical translator/copy writer? If not any course you recommend that are not 4 years long?

@@gabrieladagenais6665 I'd definitely recommend getting some formal training in translation. You could try doing a postgraduate diploma in translation if you already have a degree in another subject (e.g. nursing)? The Open University offers a course so you could do that while continuing to work.

@@Tammy8823 I absolutely love it. I already liked it years ago when I did OPI as a job to pay for my degree, but now that I graduated as a dietitian I decided to get back into it and work in person at a hospital now. It's very fulfilling work to me and I am glad to genuinely help people.

Hi Aya, it would certainly help you to do a translation degree on top of your physio degree, yes. There are online unis you can check out, just google "online translation certification". But you don't necessarily need a degree. You can try to specialize in your field of study and just dominate by knowing a lot about the field. It will be harder, but certainly possible as well.

@@Freelanceversemmmh, let's say I'll never be able to be an engineer unless I study to become one, let alone a doctor or whatever profession may be. If you haven't got a proper educational background how are you supposed to translate adequately?

@@jonathand5793 By having vast experience in another field. I know plenty of customers who would rather have someone that knows everything there is to know about, let's say, mechanical engineering in the target language than a translator who studied languages for a number of years but has no experience in engineering. Our profession is not comparable with that of a doctor or an engineer in that sense, that's the beauty of it. With enough creativity and experience, it's definitely possible to make it.

@@Freelanceverse Then what about Cassandra? Once you decide that you want to be a translator you need to choose a specific field, don't you? What I'm saying is that even if you're an exceptional lawyer that doesn't make you good at legal translations.
