It's a nice contrast. Shows that the intensity of their relationship is as natural as small tasks and activities around the house. Further...each place she is wandering to is a place where she and her lover are being intimate. Meaning, they start making love on the couch, head to the kitchen, the dining room, then end up in the bedroom.

@@catsandaestheticroses4817 ahaha yes. You also notice that she “prepares” the cereal in the kitchen and only drinks coffee in the kitchen. Like she’s getting her energy up. She only starts “eating” (wink wink) on the table. Then when they make it to the bed, it’s now Moonbyul singing the chorus and not Seori. It’s an indication of a switch of “position” or “dominance”. Basically whoever was receiving before was now the one giving.

So I agree that the lyrics are a bit risqué, but I think that’s what makes SHUTDOWN a statement song. In pop culture, be it western or Korean, LGBT romance is rarely represented. but with this song, and G999 which has the lyrical meaning of being different and from another planet, yet refusing to be called an alien, we see Moonbyul doing what many artists shy away from doing - to represent and normalize homosexuality in her music. This is further amplified by the use of the specific pronouns “SHE SAID” in shutdown. While G999 was an “awakening” song or the first introduction, SHUTDOWN depicts a honey moon phase, and takes a more adult turn with both the lyrics and message. Moonbyul has previously said she doesn’t like using specific pronouns in her songs because she wants to create relatable music. However, the fact that she DOES use pronouns in SHUTDOWN, and actually uses them to represent a lesbian relationship, is SO POWERFUL. There is clear sapphic poetry in those lyrics. You can clearly read them like a poem. And like you said, the accompanying video could have been equally sexual, however Moonbyul uses a normal and warm setting of a home. This NORMALIZES homosexual relationships, sending the message that same sex couples and “sex” in general need to be normalized in the conservative cultures of developing countries. Especially considering how gay marriages are still not legal in South Korea. NEVERTHELESS, I highly think that we shouldn’t use this song and it’s message to ask Moonbyul intrusive questions about her own sexuality or ASSUME anything. She can be whoever she wants and she doesn’t need to tell us. And we certainly shouldn’t assume that just because she wrote this song, it automatically makes her a lesbian herself. Like heterosexuality shouldn’t be forced on an idol, I think homosexuality should also not be assumed. However what we CAN take as a message is simply that Byul cares. She CARES enough to make a song and represent a minority group. She CARES enough to make the stand despite any consequences. She simply CARES. I think this song needs to be hyped about even more. It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, and that’s saying something ❤️✨

this song and video feel so genuine. idk how else to describe it, it’s really outstanding in the terms of sapphic representation. it’s not intensely passionate but at the same time its not all pure and innocent, the two stereotypes that so many examples of sapphic representation seem to be confined too. it feels like the definition of ‘the female gaze’, if it really exists

If y'all don't know Shutdown is an erotic song about two women who are in love! (Byul has confirmed that the song is erotic) I think Moonbyul has done a great job writing this song! The lyrics talk about the intimate moments shared between two women in love. The lyrics are erotic but not vulgar. Usually, in pop culture same sex relationships are sexualised. It makes LGBTQ+ people uncomfortable. But, Byul has painted such a beautiful intimate picture using her great song writing skills! Also, this song is pretty progressive because South Korea is a very conservative country. Same-sex couples face a lot of problems there. Too many of them can't even express their sexuality due to backlash. So, kudos to our Moonstar for representing LGBTQ+ people ( here lesbian couple) Also, Seori's vocals are beautiful as well! Her warm voice evokes such a fuzzy feeling inside! Seori too is a huge ally to LGBTQ + community! Do check out her discography as well!

Ok but the way Moonbyul wrote the lyrics... Dali, Van, Picasso are artists who are known for painting nude women. Mountain means the chest Bridge means the legs (다리 can be bridge and legs in korean) there are other metaphors like making love until morning and the way the lyrics change from on YOUR lap (seori) to on MY lap (mb). Moonbyul really did an amazing job writing this song and also seori adding to the perfection.

i just wanna talk about how beautiful the mv is. The scene starts w/ byul sitting on the sofa reading a book and using her phone then seori appeared beside her who is trying to get byul's attention but byul remained looking at her book/phone. This continue to the kitchen until to the table where byul ignored seori. From what I gather from the video-since byul said that they can't make the Shutdown muisc video based on the lyrics bc it might be too r rated (i think she said this in an interview)-its like in the mv seori is trying to "seduce" byul to doing "it" but byul is being, lets say "playing hard to get" so moonbyul keep ignoring the 'temptation' which is seori. This where the cereal table scene comes in, the song was already in the bridge part and building up to the chorus or "climax" both byul and seori stood and went to the bedroom "byul is finally giving in" and both of them sitting and looking at each other at the same time is like nearing the "climax" of it. Also mind the lights outside the window and the lyrics "on my lap till morning" means they've been doing it until morning. I cant fully explain but this was my interpretation from the mv. And Moonbyul is showing us again why she is a great artist.

As others have said this song is Poetry. And that’s what makes it so special and sets it apart from the gimmicky stuff. This song feels so genuine and intimate bc it comes from a genuine place and isn’t a record company or artist trying to get streams via shock factor or sexualized scenes. This song and video is Tell > Show and through that it communicates intense feelings that inadvertently create a mental image of your own.

Came back here to say this song is a milestone in queer representation and I am so proud of Moonbyul for her growth as an artist. We desperately need musicians like her and Seori to make queer life visible and less intimidating. I hope in ten years time, life will be easier for LGBTQ+ people around the world and we will look back on this song fondly. I hope releasing music like this won't need to be an act of bravery anymore

Queer is a slur. Not every gay reclaimed it. Stop using it. It harms older gays who was traumatized by that word, but go ahead if you want to use it. You're basically just spitting in the face of the people who paved the way for us.

Considering the "situation" in SK, this song is a bold and beautiful moove. Lets hope its just one of many artworks that eventualy fight off these stupid archaic social dogma's there and allow people to live more free lives and be more true and equal to them selves, regardles of the gender and sexuality. Also this song is fire and goes right in to my playlist of favorites.

@@aishipea577 well i tought it would be obvious from the comment. Same sex relationships are largely frowned upon in SK. The public there have the tendencies to bully people who happen to be in homosexual relationships. Two women kissing in the midle of a street is somehow at the same level of bad, as walking around naked. Also there are laws in place that dont alow same sex mariege i believe. In short, people in SK are yet to wake up and understand that homosexuality is not disease or form of rebelion, but absolutely normal sexual orientation.

@@aishipea577 theres lgbt pride festival Seoul- every year. SK has Lots of gay bar and club.- its not illegal. Most of haters are Christians. and older people are uncomfortable. But not youngers. Most of university has lgbt community center. Under 18year old lgbt student can provide legally. Theres many open gay artist on their job. Some of them on TV shows. Surely, SK is not a gay paradise but not a hell neither.

@@choncat3545 Lol this comment aged somewhat badly considering the city of Seoul cancelled pride festival this year and yes, not the absolute worst country in the world for queer people (though that is a very low bar to begin with), but a lot of the LGBTQ community in Korea is still pretty underground and overall society is not as fully/openly accepting either
