Spearfishing the Bahamas with Kimi Werner, Steve Rinella | Spearchef

Спорт

Kimi believes that traveling will make anyone a better person because it gets you out of your comfort zone. She also feels it's what has made her a better diver along the way. So Kimi takes Steve Rinella to meet up with her old friend Cameron Kirkconnell to learn the ropes of diving the Bahamas.

MeatEater is the pinnacle of Hunting/Fishing/Conservation media, and this series is just another example of their absolute understanding and appreciation of what makes their pursuits so entertaining and inspiring for those of us who share their interests and passion. Great stuff Kimi & Steve, and Cameron was another fantastic addition. After hearing him on the Close Calls audiobook and the podcast, it's good to see him active on the show in his element.

We have Cal to thank for introducing Kimi and Steve. Comparing Steve's first time spear fishing to this episode shows just how much better he's become at spearfishing. Watching Kimi at first struggle with the spear pole makes you realize it's not that easy. Great episode.

Growing up in Florida and fishing/ spear fishing my whole life I love seeing sea food elevated. Truly inspirational. Kim is absolutely right. Reflect on how hard you work for it. Anyone can buy food at the market. Eating and sharing what you caught even if only you know how much effort went into it makes it taste just that much better.

According to Escoffier, The Godfather of classical cooking, “the invariable base of a bisque is shellfish cooked in mirepoix.” Can be thickened with rice, bread, or veloute (roux and stock based sauce). Kimmie hit it out of the park with her lobster bisque! I can’t believe she went ankle-deep in that coral cave to shoot that grouper. Champion!

What fantastic videos. Glad I stumbled onto these. I was a young logger back in the 70s of the Tongass, southeast Alaska. Harvesting everything from scallops, octopus and huge shrimp and crab, to halibut, yellow eye, and squid. Almost all while free diving. After 3 days, I could feed the entire logging camp! Then I'd go out and harvest two or three sitka black tail, along with 20 lbs of wild mushrooms and feed the camp again. Surf and turf!
