Spay and Neuter Series: What the Research Shows About Lifespan and Behavior

I typically avoid the use of the term lifespan and really prefer the term healthspan. To me it's not about just racking up a numbers total but rather it's about having as many quality years as possible. There has been a shift in the human fitness world to talk about it in this manner. Unfortunately, like with most things, we are a little behind on the veterinary side. The studies we looked at last week did not take into account lifespan or behavior which are two factors that can greatly impact this discussion as well as the quality of a dog's life.

That's a lot of great info! timely in that i just got a 2 year old, intact Drahthaar and am trying to decide if/when I get him cut. Thanks for presenting all that!

Great information. Wonder if altering increases epilepsy in Labs.

Thanks. My initial thought would be to say probably not as it seems some lines are more prone and I've seen it in intact and altered.
