Totally agreed with your final statement, though I think it's worth accentuating that getting the series and the story done properly (even though it's a shortened version) after losing the lead in such a tragic fashion, is massive achievement as well. Huge kudos to the whole crew, as well as Liam, who really did an amazing job in the following seasons - a fitting tribute to Andy, I think.

When i first commented on this vid i didnt have alot of time to comment on all of the portions covered in this. 1. Thank you for Praising Manu Bennett. Maybe its because he was the only actor to appear in every season but this dude has grown into my favorite character in the entire series. Hes also a major reason i actually watched arrow, because after finishing Spartacus i stumbled upon a clip of Slade Wilson training Oliver Queen and immediately i went "hey thats The Undefeated Gaul!!" Only for my brother to recommend Arrow to me and i ended up sticking with it for years due to Manu Bennett's awesome performance. His romance with Naevia has one of my most romantic lines ive ever heard. "You are my heart. Ill never doubt the beating of it again." Although like most im not a fan of her recast. His farewell to Spartacus in 3x8 is hands down one of the most emotional callbacks in any show ive ever seen. Crixus: when we were yet at Batiatus's Ludus,i once said we may have been brothers in another life. Spartacus: yet not in this one. Crixus: Know that i was wrong. And will forever hold you as such. Spartacus:As i will hold you. 2. On your first video talking about Spartacus you did such a great comparison between this and the upstairs/downstairs politics of Downton Abbey with the added realistic Brutality of slavery from 12 years a Slave and i couldn't agree more. 3. The Gilded Cage, the Dehumanization of MEN and WOMEN,and the way Slavery sustains itself. A major issue i have with the Later Seasons of Game of Thrones and even House of the Dragon is that they really push the narrative that all Men were evil and Women in The aristocracy were living tortured lives. But this show is the only show i can see how easily men were disposed of in this system. We see them tortured and mutilated, sold and Pimped out ,killed for Sport or even for nothing at all. And more importantly we see how the men see that as all their good for until their convinced to fight for more. 4. John hannah will always be Jonathan to me,but i agree that Batiatus is his greatest performance of his career. I legitimately went from thinking he was just a funny actor to thinking hed fit in perfectly in Game of Thrones as a rival to Tywin Lannister in terms of Ambition and Cruelty. When i think of a Slimy, manipulative, power hungry and ambitious Roman i think of Batiatus. 5. Lucy Lawless maybe known for Xena Warrior Princess, but i will always and forever Cherish her as Lucretia. The only actress i wish was given a role similar to Olenna tyrell in Game of Thrones as an older/wiser/Cunning power player of a woman who could rival Cersei Lannister. Hands down,my favorite Female Villian in any medium. And Lucretia and Batiatus are my favorite evil couple in any tv or movie ever. Too many times you have a couple that isnt operating 100 percent equally with one another, but these two are inseparable when it comes to their ambition and their evil. Even their love i fully understood when they when into detail in Gods of the Arena. For years ive never understood her feelings towards Crixus, but i think you put it best where it was a powerful woman taking advantage of a man who couldn't say no,or at least Lucretia wanted to Possess him. And again, something i give credit for is how i never got the feeling she was powerless or at the whims of the men around her. She is a cruel/manipulative/ambitious woman unlike how they potray the women in HOTD/Game of thrones in later seasons. 6. Aureila.....oh my goodness. For years i always liked her character,or at least i never disliked her because i understood her anger and Hatred at Spartacus. But now it feels like the time we spent with Vaaro was to set up Aurelia's arc. her putting the Pieces together slowly and finally getting revenge on one of the people responsible in killing Numerious is satisfying, and her performance in that scene is amazing. 7. Illithyia is so Underrated, and a primary reason i enjoy the writing of the female characters in this as opposed to Game of Thrones/HOTD In game of Thrones/HOTD they make it seem as if all of the women are blameless in the atrocities,or unsung heroes whose accomplishments were hidden away in the history books as they ran things behind the scenes. But illithyia is a prime example of what i call "The whispers in the ears of men" or at least a shit stirrer. Never forget she not only manipulated Numerious into killing Vaaro, but also Manipulated Glaber into betraying his oath to the Thracians leading to the feud between him and Spartacus. But besides that i just legitimately love her as a villian. A spoiled rich girl who actually will get her hands dirty ,i gotta respect it. Plus her relationship with Lucretia is such a major highlight. 8. Mira is a character i grew into liking in season 2. I see her as a Woman who Spartacus was afraid to love so he kept pushing her away until it was too late. Only to realize he loved her when she was gone. She was fighter,a person who wanted to be strong rather than die helpess and afraid in the mines like so many other slaves . And your right, her scene where she states her price in exchange for helping orchestrate the Breakout at the Ludus is heavily Underrated. 9. Agron is pretty underrated, and i normally dont care but it sucks people never bring him up as a LGBTQ icon or great character. Maybe its because he was introduced as an OLDER BROTHER,A Gladiator, and A freedom fighter, and Loyal to his fellow slaves rather than make his entire personality just be "im gay" works in developing a great character.

I always found a twisted connection to Ashur and his narrative arc growing up while watching the series: I always wanted to be something grand, like an artist or an actor, and while I was fairly good at the latter, I found myself obscenely competent as an humble office worker, to the point I gained a permanent contract in barely 2 years. I'm not exactly satisfied with it, but this job does help me and my family live a respectable life, so I have accepted it.

I thank you for getting me to give the show another go. I tried watching it when it first aired, but couldn't get into it. I paused your video partway in (I didn't want the entire plot spoiled, lol) to start watching the show, and couldn't stop. The first, and prequel, season definitely rank in my list of favorite TV shows now. The storytelling itself was amazing, but the actors really nailed it, too. There was something to read in nearly every expression, movement and voice inflection, all of which added to each character's complexity and growth. It all had a purpose, and meant to tell the audience something. The final two seasons lacked that for me. Perhaps the story was meant to be more direct by then, as our main characters were mostly united against a common enemy, and the focus turned to literal battles, something just wasn't the same. But dang, am I happy to watch the Blood and Sand episodes several times over!

Thank you I think you made a really good video as you can see with all my comments;) I think I have watched Spartacus about 20 times but I'm a woman and there are parts of it that appeals to women. It's funny that they showed all those naked men and yet Cannicus who had most sex of all never showed anything. I guess it was because they had said it was ridiculous big and he couldn't live up to that:) I thought the new Naevia was annoying and not anything like the first who was mild and sweet while the other behaved as if she was the leader of them all and it was her fault that Crixus died. She gloated when telling Spartacus that he wouldn't change Crixus's mind. I liked that Tiberius gave Crixus a spear in the back and he himself died with a knife in the back. Also that Lucretia got a sword in her stomach so her baby died and it looked as if she slit Illithia's stomach to take out the child So in a way she did to another woman what was done to her with no empathy for her. I found it funny that Agron and his people spoke modern German because back then they would have sounded something like the Vikings or the people now living on Iceland and you wouldn't be able to understand a word. The last thing I noticed was that the things Batiatus was saying at the end on the balcony about how they would rise and they deserved everything they got and they did. Batiatus always gloated to early only to see things turn out differently then expected. It was the same with Glaber he was also looking forward to what good things were coming his way not knowing it was death. I have Spartacus on DVD but I will not watch the new series as I usually jump over the part with Ashur I can't stand him and especially the way he speaks. It's funny how after he had to wear the brace he is crying in anger over what he thinks was done to him but forgets that he was ready to kill Gannicus when his back was turned. I was also happy that Lucrecia was forced to have sex with him as she had not problem using others - young female slaves for gain. Batiatus always held the speeches about how they had suffered and bled but he did no such thing his slaves did for him. He only used people and he got what he deserved.

Spartacus is a Sam Raimi & Rob Tapert produced sword and sandal show. Following in the footsteps of previous Raimi - Tapert series including the likes of Hercules the Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess and Young Hercules. A nod was made to this in Ash vs Evil Dead when Ash’s father is introduced and Spartacus is playing on the tv. Given the significance of the Middle Ages to the Evil Dead franchise in Army of Darkness. I like to view the Spartacus series as Evil Dead adjacent - taking place historically towards the later period of Ancient Rome not long before Ash returns back into the past. Lucy Lawless who plays Lucretia previously played Xena. She is also Ruby in Ash Vs Evil Dead, and she is married to Rob Tapert. Which is why she appears in many of his projects since Xena. I think it would make perfect sense that after Lucretia leaps from the cliff holding the newborn baby that she has some form of a supernaturally empowering death and resurrection that transforms her into the demonic entity we know as “Ruby” in Ash vs Evil Dead. The author of the book of the dead the Necronomicon. There is references to the book being written in ancient Sumerian but that could be retconned a bit to make the timeline work better. 30 Days of Night is also a Raimi - Tapert produced film franchise. Their first notable return to horror after Spiderman - I like to view 30 Days as another extension of the Evil Dead universe. And given the brutal nature of the 30 Days depiction of vampires I think it would make sense that the 30 Days vampires could be the Evil Dead universe version of what vampires are like. So essentially … Spartacus is the ancient world prequel of Evil Dead prior to the Necronomicon being created. And the 30 Days of Night vampires are a race of ancient vampires dating back to some previous period in history as far back as Spartacus or earlier even. That’s my take, from a fanfic perspective of combining the various franchises to form an ultimate Raimi - Tapert extended universe tying them altogether.

modern entertainment should take a good look at this and learn how to write something properly while creating a spectacle, how to create characters who got actual character, with real arcs filled with motivations, emotions and stakes, making them feel authentic...the simple fact of how they handled both men and women in this show is marvelous when looking at the shit happening today, both sides have their strengths and weaknesses, they complement each other, if this was made today they would make the women constantly wanting to overthrow patriarchy and there would 100% be a wannabe boss bitch that stomps all the men somehow cause thats cool apparently...the women in this show are so well done with the way they play the game and manage to navigate through this narrative in order to get what they desire, the whole thing is just brilliant...the biggest shout needs to go to the actors cause they bring their A game every single episode and its an absolute treat watching them work, there is never a moment of weakness or a lack of care from anybody, in every scene its all or nothing and it should be commended much more

Fair warning: the first episode is arguably the worst of the entire series, but it is still absolutely essential. It's not painful to watch by any means, but it doesn't display the greatness that the show rapidly achieves in the next few episodes. I'm writing this review to focus on the final (which technically is season 4 if you include Gods of the Areana, but according to IMDb is season 3. I'm referring to the last, 2013, season) season only. The First 3 seasons were excellent in every way. If you are going to watch Season 4 expecting to see the expansive scenes, the complex character development, the Machiavellian plot twists, the political intrigue, The close connection to the actual history, and the justifiable amount of sex and violence, then you will be sorely disappointed. The graphics are overtly CGI, the plot, what I will call laughingly" twists are transparent and uninspired, The battle scenes are ridiculous, the character development is non-existent, and the dialog is amateurish and lacks any real depth. It's almost like they ran out of money before they started this Season. Here's what you get..
