Love you Larry. Probably should have worded my comments differently. Again my apologies. I think you more than answered me and I appreciate your comments. Sometimes I talk from the other end of my body. Feel better. Just to let you know I have health issues and your videos have got me through some tough times. And yes I know it is Dave Clark not Lark (fat fingers). Peace Larry!

I saw them on Top of The Pops on BBC. Russell was like Shirley Temple and Ron scowling at the camera blew me away. Fan ever since.

It’s hard when other people don’t understand how or why a certain artist or genre brings us joy and has gotten us through bad times, especially when they try to fault us for it because they don’t get it. Music is beautiful for that very reason. Sending thoughts and prayers your way for the health issues!

You should never be made to apologize for something you like. Anyone who tries to pull that on you, is not a friend. Hoping for the best, and that everything will work out in your situation.

*THUMBS UP FOR SPARKS!* Along with talking about the 50th anniversary of Sparks Kimono My House album I also needed to respond further to a recent comment I received on my "obsession" with this band.

It's the Beatles and Sparks at the top for me, too. And I listen more to Sparks, as they're still producing new albums. Just like so many other "vintage" Sparks fans, my first taste of them was Kimono My House when it first came out , so this is indeed a special anniversary for me as well as Sparks. I feel lucky to be living in the same era as Ron and Russell Mael.

KImono My House and Propaganda are very special to me because they are the first albums that I ever bought. I purchased both on the same day and played them non-stop. Now I have thousands but those two will always be very significant to me. They are not my favourites of theirs though, that honour goes to BIG BEAT(I'm probably the only Sparks fan in the world that loves it so much!). Good health and good luck to you, Monsieur.

I LOVE SPARKS! I fully agree with you as to how music can be such a huge support and healer throughout our lives. Ironically my teen experiences were exactly the same as yours! My Mum suffered with Bi Polar (Manic Depression as it was then known). Those were seriously traumatic times being witness to a number of suicide attempts - we lost her in May 1979 (anniversary approaching) - I was just 17. I'm sure my love of the music from that time helped me through. As far as Kimono is concerned, I know you saw my comment on Facebook, the 50th anniversary tribute from Pale Wizard records is a worthy nod to the boys and their masterpiece. Keep well my friend - I may be a year or so behind you at 62 but my body seems to be giving up on me too! Sparks Rule - keep flying that flag!

I cannot believe that this album is 50 years old. Still one of my favorites. Couldn't find it in any local record store, so my Dad picked it up for me on his lunch hour in NYC. Not a bad song on it. Thank you, Larry for this video. It brings back all the memories. It's amazing how music can help us through the hardest times, I know it has for me.

I discovered Sparks when Angst in My Pants & Whomp That Sucker came out, I bought them both on sale. Didn't hear Kimono My House until 1993, when I decided to hear everything they done after finding out a coworker also liked them. I think I stumbled upon your youtube channel because of Sparks 2 or 3 years ago.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me with Kimono My House LP and thought it was a girl group or guys wannabe Japanese girls. I didn't see them on Midnight Special, but heard them on progressive FM radio, then I bought the album. The first play was "I got ripped off" and by the fifth time and 5th day (and the last day I could get in-store credit) I loved it. I has not made it into my current CD collection yet. But thanks to you Larry, I have a couple of Sparks CDs.

That’s a cool soarks story, Larry. It’s a lot cooler than mine which is just “my piano teacher told me about Sparks and now I like them”. I’m sorry about thise childhood experiences. It really sucks when other people dislike a band that you like. I’m going through a similar experience with king gizzard. A lot of people at my school think i’m the weirdest person ever because of how much I love them. Just keep on spreading the good word of Sparks and don’t let those a holes bring you down.

I feel the same way about music Larry, especially Paul McCartney and the Beatles. Their music has been a safety net to me through good times and bad. I find it hard when people bash my favourites, it’s so personal and hurtful.

Larry, thank you so much for this video. I remember buying the single This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us, playing it over and over and leaping up and down in my room. (Wow, that was really fifty years ago!!!) I also bought the No 1 Song in Heaven album in '79, so Sparks have always been on my playlists and stereo down the years. To me you like what you like and as far as I'm concerned that's ok. I'm not a fan of Phil Collins, but he has a huge fan base, and he clearly makes a lot of people happy with his music so I respect him for that, but his music is not to my taste. Attacking other people for their individual likes and tastes and to attack artists in such a way is rather juvenile and a tad pathetic. My own tastes have varied over the years, and broadend as I've got older. I love classical music, jazz, blues, folk. So much music I once dismissed, I now take pleasure in discovering and exploring. This last year I have become a fan of Nana Mouskouri the greek lady who was very popular here in the UK in the sixties and the seventies. She has a very beautiful voice and she has done some very wonderful covers of Beatles songs down the years. So, if someone was to attack me for enjoying this lady's records, my response would be, ok you don't like her music, but I do, so let's agree to differ. So don't ever let these people get to you my friend. I'm really sorry that you're going through some rough times health wise at the moment. Here for you if you ever need to talk my friend, and I shall keep you in my prayers. In the meantime you keep posting these fantastic videos. Warmest wishes and best regards. Terry.

I absolutely love this album. I remember your story about throwing it out at first from an older video, haha. I actually liked Kimono from the start, but there are plenty of albums I hated at first but now love. And Propaganda is an amazing follow-up that I also love equally. That photo of you from back in the day is incredible. I'm sorry about your mom. I have not had to deal with anything that hard, but I also deal with many struggles of my own, and music is what gets me through. As for people who knock my music, I kind of take it in stride. I was born in 1992, and got into bands like the Beatles in the 90s. I remember kids telling me I was lame for liking an old band like the Beatles and not a cool "band" like the Backstreet Boys. No joke. I was mocked by Backstreet Boys fans. Add to it I was into vinyl records back when they were considered garbage. I would be lectured by kids and adults alike, haha. By the time I found Sparks, I kind of got a kick out of the weird looks. My mom is supportive of my music obsession, but she would always be confused by Sparks. She thought they were showtunes. I'm like, "Mom, don't you hear Dinky Diamond pounding away?" (That's gotta sounds weird to a non-Sparks fan.) And she was from that era! But American, and the Maels were off in the UK topping the charts at the time. I actually have an autographed copy of the album. Bought it from a collector who was the same age as my mom and American, but completely plugged into the UK music scene at the time. He saw them at a show in Connecticut (here in the US), and Ron and Russell signed next to their photos on the back. He said the audience was tiny.

My entry point to sparks was No.1 in heaven, but my friend gave me a copy of kimono my house a couple of weeks later and i was blown away by not only how good it was, but how it was poles apart different to No.1 in heaven. And a few years later, my grandad bought me the cassette of kimono 3 days before he passed away, and its my most prized sparks item despite having the halfnelson album too. Thank god its not christmas is one of my top 10 sparks songs, and i really like my brains and her looks too from the 40th anniversary edition. It would be good to see you reacting to those kmh demos.

You would be surprised at the beautiful cds I come by at that place $2. + hst and on Tues 30% off even better there is lots of junk there as well but when you find a good one its well worth it.

nice video. I like sparks and I’ve got a few of their records but they’re not my favorite group in the world. They just haven’t really clicked with me yet. Still it’s cool hearing people talk more about over looked bands that don’t get to much recognition. I could go on for hours about the Hollies haha. Also I always think that kimono my house released in 73. Maybe it’s because they skipped that year and propaganda also came out in 74. Not sure why.
