A few months ago I took and got 100 percent on Duolingo's Spanish placement exam. While it was fun taking the test, many of you said I should take the final and hardest Duolingo Spanish test... so that's exactly what I do in this video! Many language learners aren't sure how effective Duolingo really is. Truthfully, I think Duolingo is an absolutely fantastic substitute to a more rigid study plan. Hola, I'm Nate. I used to not know any Spanish at all, and I had no interest in learning the language. I thought learning Spanish would be boring, a waste of time, and would provide no value to my life. Then I started taking Spanish classes in high school and everything changed for me. I struggled with learning the language a lot at first, but thanks to my teachers and my Spanish speaking friends, they helped make the learning process fun. Within a few months, I had gotten to a conversational level, but more important, I had become a more confident person. The real win for me, though, was the friendships I made and strengthened. I discovered that not only did I have higher self esteem, but being out in the real world with people, whether old friends or new ones I met, made me feel more alive and connected with the world around me. Now it's my goal to create videos that make you smile and inspire you to learn Spanish or another language!

Soy de México y me impresiona que tengas tan buena pronunciación. La mayoría de los gringos, ingleses u otras personas que están aprendiendo español se les nota demasiado el acento, pero tu podrías perfectamente pasar por alguien que tiene al español como lengua materna. El Duolingo está en un español neutral entonces es raro ver palabras que no se usan, como “susceptible”. Es realmente entretenido ver a personas de otros países tratar de aprender el español.

Podría hacerse pasar por alguien que hablara español de Latinoamérica. Para pasarse por alguien que usara el español de España debería de corregir el seseo (“c” pronunciadas como “s”) y algunos golpes de voz ¡pero sin duda se le entiende genial!

I'm at checkpoint 7 right now, and I was able to understand most of it. There were a few words here and there that I didn't cover yet, but mostly it seemed easy. However, I tried doing it myself and failed, you are only allowed 3 mistakes. It looks easier than it is.

as a Spanish person that always talk in english it was so satisfactory to see you checking you everything to make sure it’s okay, btw, some mistakes were the same that native people do, like that “que” that was “qué” with the accent, i was checking my translations to english while you did in spanish, my cheers for your good spanish & pronunciation

Hi Nate, great video, appreciate it! I started studying Spanish about 3-4 months ago, and I can understand most of the things that are happening here, of course with the help of the subtitles, and your answers. So I kinda can understand why you would pick each word, but I wouldn't be able to pick them by myself. I'm really pushing to get better faster though!

@@josuerecinos8117 el español neutro no tiene acento, y el español México tampoco, o en su mayoría, hay un grupo de personas que si tienen cierto acento en México, pero no creo que el acento chileno sea más parecido al neutro que el mexicano que casi no tiene acentos, o que país seria al que más se asemeja el español neutro según tu?

This was fun to watch! I use duolingo a lot to learn spanish so I was familiar with how hard it can get lol
I’m kinda happy with myself, I’ve been studying Spanish for a year and a half and I got nearly all of them right, thanks for the great vids mate
As expected Nate! Next up you should do the timed challenge!! In the league/ranking tab (shield icon) there's a violet button on the bottom right. There are two different formats, on weekends the levels are stepped but on weekdays it's just one level. The weekdays one might be safe but watching you survive the weekend challenge (9 levels total, the time pauses every time you submit an answer) would be great! I've also finished Checkpoint 10 in Spanish, I know what all the sentences mean in Spanish but putting the answer in adds another layer to the challenge!

Que buen video Nate! Soy de Venezuela y estoy estudiando ingles y Aleman, empece a estudiar ingles a finales del año pasado y ahorita mismo estudio Aleman en el extranjero, aun asi aca muchos hablan ingles ya que varios son de USA o de lugares de habla inglesa, asi que trato de usar lo que aprendi el año pasado de ingles pero aun me cuesta mucho escuchar muchas expresiones que dicen!

Pero en tu defensa, los audios de Duolingo a menudo no tienen el contexto necesario para entenderlos. Yo creo que es más difícil de entender las frases cuando se encuentran en una situación que tiene nada que ver.

@@spanishthroughimmersion6694 Sí, tienes toda la razón. Duolingo me parece una herramienta valiosísima para iniciarse en un idioma o al menos entender las situaciones básicas. Pero por sí solo no te va a ayudar mucho que digamos. Yo lo complemento con vídeos de KZread, alguna que otra canción porque no soy muy fan de las canciones. Pero sobretodo, leer. La lectura es la clave final para lograr el famoso "imput" al menos en mi caso. Leer, leer y leer. Y luego tratar de entender algo de conversaciones de nativos e imitar sus sonidos para lograr decir algo. Todo con tiempo y dedicación se logra. Pero yo amo a mi buhito verde, porque para mí es el trampolín para meterse en el mundo de los idiomas. Y voy por más!

@@pablobond_vzla estoy de acuerdo contigo. Sin embargo, a mi no me gusta mucho Duolingo. De hecho no me gustan mucho los recursos diseñados por principiantes. Los son muy aburridos para mi, así que necesitaba usarlos que me interesan. Si quisiera seguir mejorando en el idioma. Creo que el problema primordial es que Duolingo depende demasiado de la traducción que siempre limitar a las personas que quiere hablar con fluidez. Claro que Sí, Duolingo le sirve mucho si lo use en el comienzo. Pero muchas personas lo usen por años y gastar muchas horas sin mucho progreso. P.D. perdón por los errores que cometí. no practicaba mi habilidad de hablar mucho y aún me cuesta mucho trabajo hablar y escribir jajaja.

No puedo creer que entendí rápidamente las preguntas que se planteaban en la prueba final del curso de español de Duolingo, no sólo debes saber buen español sino también buen inglés, tener cuidado con los acentos y las palabras de origen hispano y latino, y aún así, el japonés es el curso que no me deja superarme jajajaja
Soy de Ecuador y debo decir que hablas muy bien el español, tu pronunciación es muy buena y eso es algo que para muchas personas que tienen el inglés como lengua materna es muy difícil de lograr además de que tienes una gran habilidad para comprender el idioma, felicidades. PD: Dentro de poco entraré a la universidad y estudiaré para ser profesor de inglés, espero lograr tener un buen manejo del inglés así como tú lo tienes del español.

Does anyone else have trouble speaking more than romance language? I've been learning Spanish for 8 months, in fact I've devoted all my free time to it. And at this point when I try to speak french I always say spanish words. My ability to speak french is almost completely gone, and I spoke it for 10 years every day in school. Though my listening comprehension for french is still better, my speaking ability for spanish is superior at this point 🥴

For us native spanish speakers, it is actually easier to learn other romance languages (and german) because of the similarities between languages. Well, at least for me, it is easy to identify things in common between Spanish, English and German

Sinceramente no tuvo ningún fallo porque tiene el diccionario del móvil cuando escribe jajaja. La gramática española es muy difícil incluso para algunos nativos del idioma. Por ejemplo: en la palabra susceptible se paro un poco para ver si le salía la palabra. Aunque no voy a negar que tiene un español muy bueno y que desde mi punto de vista es un 10 bien ganado.
Wow tu español es muy bueno sigue así, la verdad conocí en persona profesores de español y hablándoles se confundían bastante, me sorprende tu español y espero que puedas seguir enseñando a las personas este bonito idioma un saludo desde Bolivia 🇧🇴🇧🇴🇧🇴

Also “qué” is used in questions and exclamations and “que” without the accent in the other cases, both meaning “what”!

Para nada parece materno, lo habla bien y fluido pero con acento marcado angloparlante.
Al ver este video, veo como a algunos se les puede complicar un poco el español, me gustó q al final pudiera completar la prueba sin equivocarse, el inglés tmb es algo difícil de dominarlo 😅😅

En realidad, esta comprobado que el ingles es de los idiomas mas faciles en aprender. Si te lo propones, podrias aprender el idioma en menos de un año.

Si, pero a la gran mayoría de nosotros, lo único que vemos en el colegio desde pequeños hasta que nos graduados es solo el verbo to be.
Es espectacular ver cómo nuestra querida lengua española aumenta con creces sus hablantes.

Bro Spanish is my first language and I didn´t have the slightest idea of what Subjuntivo was, I just know how to speak and write the language, heck I still even fuck some accents writing it LOL but you blasted through the test, even better than most spanish speakers I'd say.

Muy buen español amigo, duolingo fue creado en latinoamerica (si no recuerdo mal) y los traductores son traídos de cada país y cada día se realizan conferencias para debatir sobre las traducciones y significados. Duolingo also helped me learn other languages such as Portuguese (still in practice) and I will also learn Italian.

Buen video. Podes hacer un video acerca de los diferentes acentos que hay por todo America?
Duolingo no es tan buena si es que ya eres avanzado en un idioma, es más que todo para gente que a penas empieza, y yo personalmente no pienso que la dinámica de traducción sea muy buena, para aprender un idioma debes ser capaz de entender este y pensar en este, sin necesidad de recargarte en tu lengua materna. Buen vídeo, fue entretenido incluso si yo sé español, saludos desde Colombia
Una grandiosa clase de español, he aprendido muchísimo y gracias a esto podre aprobar el examen de la universidad complutense de Madrid.

@golchen 2 Es verdad pero era ironía. Los exámenes de inglés son 10 veces más difíciles que los de español por lo que veo.

De por si en Argentina no existe la LL XD Aca decimos Shave, Shuvia, Shenar En temas de como usamos los verbos, no usamos variantes como "estaremos", sino que decimos "vamos a estar" Aunque esas cosas seguro pasa en otros paises tambien, solo resalto que es curioso lo diferente que habla la gente el mismo idioma
