G’day, John. The opening of the video was refreshing to see. So good to see these horses being looked after so well. I will add to the dialogue about the “awards, and patches” that they are big check marks for status and promotions. In the US Military, awards and decorations over the right side of the blouse are reserved for unit and foreign nation qualifications. Typically they are “President Unit Citations”, and any airborne (parachute) awards and qualifications.

These guys love their horses, i read one trooper who's mount was retired, travelled from Hyde Park to the horse sanctuary at his own expense, to walk his mount to his new field and retire him safely to his new home, and then travel back to Hyde park Barracks, now that is love.

I took a lot of (English) lessons on a wonderful little Crabbet Arabian who had a fantastic sense of humor. One day, as I was squatting to put the girth thru the standing martingale loop, he gave me an odd look, then quite firmly and deliberately pushed me over with his beautiful little pint pot nosie, and I went right down onto my bum. He gave me another odd look, one I couldn't but interpret as the amused satisfaction of a prank well done. I quickly, anxiously scanned his stall for the pile of poop I had earlier noticed, and to my relief, it was in a far corner. He saw me looking for it, and looked even more amused. I hauled myself back up and brushed away the sawdust, petted him, and told him he is A Very Clever And Very Good Boy. ETA: He also V much enjoyed sticking his head in the water trough up to his eyeballs (had to clean my bridle a lot in the Summer), and blow bubbles.

He was Flehmening, actually smelling the scent of the water, the other horse, the troopers skin oil. Stallions use this to smell a mare in heat and other stallions via the manure.

Remember last Summer during the very hot weather spell, there was footage of the HC horses bobbing for apples in the stable yard water trough. Lovely!

What is interesting about these badges is that even the most qualified have to take their turn at guard duty.

I was under the impression that these guards have to go through a rigid selection process and earn their way onto this job. I believe they are the Elite troopers. I think the ones who support the guards are also Elite troopers. I mean I am sure there is a long line of people wanting to work with horses. Not everyone I am sure, because some people are afraid of them.

I bet people will not dare disrespect the troopers with modern combat uniforms.

You would be surprised. Some people think that because they are considered 'public servants ' that the troops have to be subservient to everyone because 'we pay your wages'. The same attitude some show towards police. 😢

Back in the '60s, '70s and 80s my brothers volunteered for parachute training and got their badges. One of them volunteered for ski training in Norway and twice volunteered for the UN in , of all places, Beirut and Beirut was really a hotspot then. They all got badges and/or medals. Also got medals when they were in Northern Ireland during the troubles.

Love to see the horses care! Never doubted they are loved, but nice to see it. ❤️

Good for you for saying something to the Spanish group leader. They were WAY too close and WAY too mouthy... LOVE the kid in the yellow shirt ...he was so proud to stand there and have a picture taken with the guard!!!! And the horse had a great time playing with the water..the guard picked up on that fact that the horse wanted to be cooled down too! LOVELY!!!

It is so nice to see, what good care the horses get , when it’s hot .

That is what you call love, care and attention from the human trooper to his animal trooper...then are so well looked after. Total respect.

What a great job that Trooper dose giving water to the Horses.

As a horse owner I definitely agree that horses do have a sense of humor.

Those big beauties really did need their water, and playtime too. The one always seems to love having a good chaw on his bit. The troopers build up muscles carrying those water buckets, and it's great to see the energies between horse/trooper, just as much as between guard/horse.

The Trooper with the oars badge is also wearing the Iraq Syria medal

If you ever see a Mk 4 tank in white on the right shoulder it means that the trooper/soldier has been trained in tracked armoured vehicle and tanks by the Royal Tank Regiment. And in case you haven't figured it out "RockeApes" is the nickname for the RAF Regiment

John, HMTK has Para wings! He took the training and earned his wings upon being appointed Colonel-in-chief almost 50 years ago.

Would be lovely if maybe you could ask him how he became so intrested in the Guards or maybe you could ask his mum. Hello John from Australia - Thank you for your interesting insight into the guards patches am always interested in military history. Shame the teacher needed to be told he should have enough common sense to know his charges were being rude and disrespecting. I sometimes wonder how these people treat each other in their own country. What were the police doing NOT MUCH. The horses loved playing with the water and having a cool down love it when they "laugh" .

John, I was wrong about a temp today. Never even reached 70F! Raining again... The trooper bringing the water reminds me of Trooper Ellis. He has that same walk, hard to describe, but it's one I've seen with some dog handlers too. I guess it's the fact that they can easily relate to the animal and the animal knows it. Thanks for sharing so much, you always make me laugh.

Trooper handsome "Iceman" on Tabor, really appreciate all the information about the badges the troopers have earned. Their families are so proud. After giving Tabor drink and getting drenched in the process, duty stablehand asks "you alright?" to Iceman....taking care of his colleague is so nice to hear. And taking the drinks to the Gatesman. For a horse standing about in mild temperatures not thirsty like that horse, not sure what is classed as hot there, excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes in horses same as humans but some horses just love slushing about and drinking, a horse in work can drink heaps to replace what they sweat out. Lovely pair of horses on display.

As I see it many Europeans are very disrespectful towards the Kings Guards and their horses. Not only Asians. Respect for tradition and for others is a bygone word in this world today.

I love this one it was warm that day plus they were pissed off being pestered by tourists but when he splashed the water iwas laughing one of my Dads horses used to give you a wash every time it’s a laugh plus you can see the trust that the charge has with the troupers wonderful too see

You will find that anyone who has passed the para course will wear the wings REGARDLESS of their regiment. Kings Troop RHA have a sister regiment 7 Royal Horse Artillery and THEY are airborne. (not with horses though! ) Also, I think it was Cavalry Sunday also before the Royal Marines parade

John, anytime you see those bages they are jump wings. In the US you can go to Airborne scchool for 2 weeks if you are recommended by a Comander and earn your wings without being in a Airborne (Paratrooper) unit. Hope the info is useful! US Army 82nd Airborne Division (Paratrooper) Retired.

I love your vídeos, cause they are kind of educational for us. It teaches us how not to be an annoying tourist! The tourist lady was really impolite trying to touch the horse while the soldier was taking care of it.

The GPP is the Guards Parachute Platoon, they earn their wings once after completing there Parachute Course.

Horses are very smart. If they learn that having a fit in the box repeatedly will result in being taken back to the stables, they will continue to do so. And no, John, there wasn't a flie that the horse was kicking at. Just frustration and wanting to go back to the stables.
