I was exposed to English, Irish, Ancient Greek and Latin and even some Italian words from Italian Operas, before I even went to Primary School actually. We had an English/Dutch dictionary in our house when I was 10 or 11 1977/1978.

There’s two rules about spoken stress: 1. For words ending in a vowel, n, or s, spoken stress is on the second-to-last syllable. For words that end in all other consonants, the stress falls on the last syllable. The accent mark is for any words that break these rules.
