Great videos. My brief experience with Starlink has been the same as yours. Thanks for sharing the Ubiquiti point-to-point system with Ethernet port. It is exactly what I need. FYI I had Hughesnet Gen5 prior.

Seems the happiest starlink customers are those that had centurylink before!! I'm right there with yall!!

Thanks for sharing, lots of good information. We are in remote Missouri, 7Mbps at best w/Century Link and we have to use extenders too - pain in the butt. Starlink is set to be available in our area this year 2023...Can't wait!!!

We've had 0.5mbps and 900ms ping for about 10 years, no mobile towers or anything, this is absolutely extraordinary for us and really made us realise how bad that was.

Thanks for sharing. We got our a couple weeks ago. We ended up having to order the roof mount. So far even with the satellite being tilted to far on the roof, we still get 100+ mbps. Good ideas on sending it to the chicken houses. We are installing cameras now on outside of our chicken houses as well.

Thank you guys for sharing this important information, I live in Miami FL the maximum internet that my server offers me is 50 GB and it is not good enough, service is not available in my area yet through fiber optics, so this would be a good option to reach three digits. You probably won’t be getting it for a very long time. Even people last year have not got theirs yet. I ordered mine back December/January and it said late Spring/ early Summer and I still have not heard anything. This one guy on another yt channel made a video about ordering one near a ups store and got his within a week. There is a map I guess and you can see where you can get yours the fastest.

@@FarmerHunt well I got online yesterday, but as I knew would be the case, I have tree obstructions every other minute darn near, so, no wifi calling, but streaming and downloading, I'm in pig heaven!

We love ours and had the same result with the modem that we didn’t need extenders!

It has been pretty good to us so far!

I live in North San Diego (which is still agricultural), Fallbrook, which is surrounded by farmland (believe it or not) so I have some perspective. Plus my Fatherinlaw lived on 200 acres in Maine. I got to tell you guys, that is one beautiful farm you have. Where are you located? Thanks for all the great Starlink info!

Thank you very much! We are in East Alabama. We are about 10 minutes from the stateline and just a little bit south of Interstate 20

If you decide you want/ need a extender Starlink now sells mesh routers that you can connect up to 3 of they are about $100 so I wouldn’t recommend if it is a small part of your house but it’s over half I would definitely recommend considering those.

Both of your Starlink videos are so helpful! Thanks guys! I do have a question about running it to another building! Do I need any parts other than a P2P bridge, router for the other building, and Ethernet cable? Like other adapters or anything like that?? I just got my order confirmation email this week finally, and now need to get all my other components gathered together. Thanks in advance!

Glad you found them useful! You will need to have the extra adapter for your Starlink modem that gives you an extra ethernet port. The Starlink modem does not have an extra place for an ethernet to plug in. Other than that I think you should be good.

Our Starlink is coming this week. We currently have Hughesnet and can't wait to make the change. We have the most expensive plan and always run out of data. Hughesnet claims it's unlimited, but I can't do remote work or watch any streaming excepts buffering youtube when it runs out.

Hell Yes, could watch yall all day. Thanks, been curious about this since we live in rural TN. may just have to give it a try. NOW, wife can complain about wire hanging along with the christmas lights still up! I leave a ladder next to the house she could use since I WORK . Was thinking though if you put up a camera in chicken house you might just get "Chicken Fingers"? sorry had to. where you boys from? had a buddy and one of his large chic houses burned to the ground full of chickens and thats a smell no one should experience.....Great video. you two should do more...

still happy with my Starlink, and speeds are acceptable at any time for us (40's-200 down and 15-20 up), do need to "learn" more about the ubiquity PTP and some wired and ethernet options, considering "wired" to the shop, primarily for the reliability of it, the rest of the property wired would be impractical, good stuff as always

So far we have been very pleased with our P2P. It's sending it about 1,000 ft or so. Haven't had any issues yet.

Did you shut off the Wi-Fi on the on the Starlink router. are you only using the Wi-Fi from ubiquity I'm very familiar with them but I wasn't sure if it was going to work with the new Starlink Make sure to Cover your wire with some flex loom the UV from the sun does not damage your cable.

Thanks for the tip. We still have Starlink at the modem as well as at the farm. It works great!

We have an off grid home in Wisconsin. We live in Minnesota. If I get Starlink at our cabin, can I monitor are home and run things from my phone, I have Verizon service and we usually do not have a problem with our phones.

I would think you should be able to but you may want to check with someone that has more knowledge about that sort of thing.

Do you get the same speed at the farm as you do at the house? We have a 2nd home on our property and would like to be able to operate with 1 internet service. We are slated to get our Starlink June 2022. Preordered Feb 2021.

For the most part I believe so. I have only checked it twice and both times were pretty consistent. Sure beats paying 2 internet bills!

Will the satellite dish readjust if it needs to? For example, I fire it up on ground level to ensure it works and get the network set up. Next, I go ahead and mount it to the roof. Will it make the necessary course corrections?

I live in rural Wisconsin outside a town of about 600 people and over an hr from Green Bay no fiber wire “Spectrum” they said some time soon lol that was two years ago an we’re currently using viasat satellite internet and it BLOWS we made the purchase and we’re on week 2 of our delivery date any fricken day now boys!!! It’s like waiting on a new baby to be born!!! 😅

I finally got my order after a year and a half and can't wait for it to come in. On a sidenote, I heard it shuts down once it hits about 104 degrees? Is that a problem y'all face?

We haven’t had that problem. We’ve hit upper 90s and no issues.

Read a lot of comments but didn't see anything about hail storms and possible damage. The Starlink site says the dish will withstand hail, but I wonder up to what size hail it can withstand.

We got rid of our satellite tv and only stream now. It may lag once a week or less. Very rare. Usually if it lags its because we have several things going at once.

The bolts for the base come with it or do you buy them somewhere else?

We bought them separate. You can buy an actual roof mount that may come with bolts

Do you have any data caps on the Starlink Internet? The Internet I am paying for caps out at 250 gigs and after that I get slowed right down to dial up speeds.

Almost seems too good to be true, but I am definitely interested! I live off-grid in very rural area on Maui… Question: is this a Tesla product? You keep making references to Musk and Tesla. Another question: how do high wind speeds affect the dish?

So far it has worked great for us. It’s not a Tesla product but Elon Musk is the one that created the company and the product. High wind may slow it down some. We have had a few bad storms where it may knock out service for a few seconds or maybe even a few minutes. We used to have satellite tv and it’s not nearly and sensitive as satellite tv.

I signed up in March 2021 and just found out that the date available in my area changed from mid 2022 to July 2022. So hopefully I will get it soon. I can't wait for this service. I have been using Viasat and it has been awful.

Same here, Melissa. I pre-ordered on 4/15/21, They've changed my "availability date" 3 times so far, the latest also being July 2022. Last week I also purchased their new R/V service and received it the next day. Gonna relocate the dish today to avoid some obstructions from my pine trees. I'll probably keep both services and just suspend the R/V service after I finally get the residential service. 😊

Initially we got speeds that were 200+. We were one of the first ones in our area I believe that got it. The speeds are more like 50-100 now on average I would say.

Yeah for us we got Starlink, was great at first. Now it has been spotty outages, and speed is all over the place. Much of the time it's not much better than the 4G Modem we had before that was. So It's probably a wash. Hopefully they'll improve in the future and it'll be a lot better, but we'll see. We have a p2p as well but just use one as a repeater which goes several KM's. It reaches the barn, hits the garden, and the pool in the summer. If it werent for the frequent outages, I'd say I'd probably not care as much about the speed drops.

We haven't experienced many outages (at least not that we have noticed) but we have been having lower speeds lately. When I set ours up there weren't any leaves on all the trees. I'm wondering if they are interfering with my signal some now.

Having problems stowing my poll down for the return of my Starlink it does not connect to the router can someone help with this I need to send it back but won't fit in the box do to the poll

Some cell providers are starting to sell 4G & 5G connections or WiFI hot spots from Cell towers, I don’t thing those speeds compare to yours, if you need high speed & can afford it StarLink seems to be the best route in rural areas. There are two counties in my area that are laying fiber on every major county rd, but they still live a lot of sides roads out at least initials. Seeing a county go fiber on almost every road is impressive. I wonder what affect that will have on Starlink long term.

I have looked into the cell phone internet but they all had data caps. I really think the way things are going that fiber internet will be a thing of the past eventually. I think wireless is a lot more cost effective and as it improves and gets more reliable I think that’s what a majority of people will do.

@@FarmerHunt The only company that didn’t have caps in my area is T-mobile, but their speeds were around 33.Mbs, that might be sufficient for 1 user, cell towers can have capacity issues at peak call hours & you might experience something similar to throttling due to capacity issues. You would think Satellite will end up ruling the day, cell phone towers with 5G, few so far, would be second, fiber cannot compare from a cost standpoint point & line maintenance down the road, in my opinion, all the extra infrastructure is so costly, I do receive 369mbs on the one fiber line I do have. It’s expensive & maybe not as reliable with the company I use as a assume a satellite connection would be.

When you consider that there are only about 2500 SL satellites in orbit, and Elon plans for 42,000 eventually, imagine how much better/faster the service will become? NO ONE on Earth can get satellites into orbit as fast or as efficiently as SpaceX, so you will see Starlink obliterate all competition eventually.

I went from 12mpbs to 600mbps when i moved to France. Was incredible, then they upgraded to 1gbps, and now we're at 2.5gbps. It's only around 50€ a month as well. The US spends trillions on military but zero on infrastructure. Fiber has zero maintenance, they'd save money installing it everywhere.

A lot of it depends on location. Is all of France like this? I could move 10-15 miles down the road and have excellent internet. It’s mostly the farmers and people that live in rural areas that are limited.

I bet in every country, even the ones with great infrastructure, you have some spots, which aren't covered, not even with mobile signal, let alone fiber optics. In my case, I live in Slovenia, right next to our capital city Ljubljana, but I have exactly the same situation as you had before the Starlink installation (and that's with an external antenna on the roof and a booster inside the house). Basically, on the other side of the hill (1 km away), they have fiber, but we'll never get that, as there are just a few houses on this side of the hill. I'm seriously considering Starlink. Thank you farmer Hunt for your videos on Starlink! :)

Does starlink work during thunderstorms?

We have had several storms and for the most part the speed slows way down. I think once or twice we may have lost internet for a minute or two. Nothing significant though. I think it stands up to storms a lot better than satellite TV.

Has anyone tried the system by starlink for rvs?

My starlink has went to crap the last month. I used to be able to game online no problem. Now I lag out every few minutes. Its unplayable. Its not my equipment but starlink.

It has definitely been slower later. It’s still a heck of a lot faster than what we had. I have been wondering if it’s because all the trees around my house have leaves on them now and it’s obstructing the signal. Maybe yours will get better soon.

Imagine having a camera aimed at the brood and the growout then having an app that can control the controllers in the houses. Real time comfort adjustments from anywhere. And potentially wouldn't have to leave your bed for 3 am alarms. Probably wishful thinking.

Do not buy Starlink. My Service was down for three months. The problem was with their settings in house, and they could not correct it. They also continued to bill me for the months they could not provide service. They are even continuing to bill me, even thought I sent my equipment back to them weeks ago. --- Fair Warning: If your Starlink service goes down, you may be in for;one helluva ride. All in all, I paid Starlink over $1400 dollars and I received service for only about 4 months.
