Seeing him tearing up, made me want to cry. You can see his work, his dreams that are inspired by his idols, are his passion and he means it. Mr. Musk, if you ever see this comment, don't mind the naysers, keep doing what you're doing. You can't always make everybody happy, just remember that you're doing great things for the world.

Seyha Leonhartz I don't know wether I lost (ALL) respect for the astronauts, since they come from a different time, a time where everything had to be " 'Murica! " to the max. So I can see why they would disagree with Elon, from their perspective. However, they should also recognize that in this day and age, the funds for space exploration can NOT come from the government, and that private companies are WILLING to step up. They should embrace that, and live with the obvious thought that if the private sector would not step up, there wouldn't be ANY space exploration at all.. That's just the way it is, and they should learn to accept, and live with that.

Wasn't it awesome to see how human he is? He is a billionaire and double CEO, and he is also a human being like the rest of us. He didn't try to deny he was sad; he simply admitted it, clearly felt the feelings and didn't try to run away from them. How awesome is that! I am so full of admiration for him.

Devin Creighton Exactly the first thing that occurred to me as I watched tears swelling, but NOT dropping, from Elon... People/Humanity are for the most part a crap-shoot depending on which way the wind is blowing at any given point, but that doesn't much matter... Perhaps it was Envy that the Ego could not deal with when observing this man's accomplishments which they "perceive" as greater than theirs...? Unbeknownst to Neil Armstrong, he has given Elon the greatest gift anyone could give another, INSPIRATION... which Elon has taken to True Action in a Masterfully Exemplary fashion! That's ALL that Matters!! I applaud and support Elon by any means I can as MANY others do!!!

Mr. Elon u r the one who made it and u r the inspiration for the small engineers like us with a big dream. U r the one who can think of a common man going to the space. Its very simple "u need to fly ? Lets build ur own rocket". We really appreciate ur confidence. The time will come when these all astronauts will hve a sneak peek and tell " wow lets fly it, its beautiful".

The main barrier between us and space is money. Elon has proven that space can see lower costs like any other technology reaches over time. He has also noted on many occasions the importance of creating reusable rockets and spacecraft and how he aspires to achieve this. I see no reason to back the man and his endeavors when they are so noble. The New Space revolution is going to bring some exciting results and I'm glad that as an upcoming engineer I will get to take part in it.

I work at NASA and I think it's a blast. It's not that we live in the past, we were actually stoked as hell when elon shot Dragon into space. When NASA awarded the contract to spaceX it was supposed to take over for the shuttle with a minimal time gap. Unfortunately and understandably, due to some extremely complex engineering problems, which are inevitable with any new technology, they got delayed a bit. Neil doesn't represent NASA policy and charlie bolden is one of the coolest guys ever.

Right now there are limited Tesla cars on the road. Model S deliveries don't even start until July 2012. It's a new company that put is putting a limited amount of vehicles on the road at a high price and will eventually put more out at a more reasonable price. Just because you haven't seen it yourself doesn't mean it's not there. There is no doubt that China is becoming a problem. Elon's main goal right now is making things cheaper. $1,000/lb launch costs over $10,000/lb is pretty good.

That's going over the top. You have to understand that in order for a private space company to succeed, there has to be profit involved. Unfortunately when it comes to space, the profit is generally seen in the form of new discoveries and knowledge, not money. Neil Armstrong is just skeptical that private space companies are going to be able to turn enough profit to really help us maintain our leadership in space and be able to discover anything.

Why are you so angry at the man? He HAS produced revolutionary electric vehicles. The best in the field. I'm sure they have their flaws, but were the first internal combustion vehicles perfect? No. This is the beginning of a new industry, it takes time to reach near perfection. Plus I'd like to see another EV that can get 300 miles and get 0-60 in under 4 seconds WHILE looking cool. Did you miss the successful Falcon launches and Dragon tests? Stay tuned April 30 when he gets cargo to the ISS.

Anyone with any knowledge of the space industry knows the milestones he has completed. Few COUNTRIES have even been able to get to orbital space yet his PRIVATE COMPANY has accomplished this. No results you say? If the launch in 9 days is successful (it probably will be) SpaceX wil be the first private company to have delivered to the ISS. It's important to remember that he is only one member of the large team that is SpaceX. Also, remember him and Armstrong have different jobs.

One question, other than NASA contracts and placing satellites into orbit, where is the money for the commercialization of space? NASA contracts still utilize taxpayer money, and industry has no interest in anything other than satellites. Therefore, there is no commercial interest to put a man on Mars. So then I must ask, where is the commercial incentive? Space exploration, at least at this point is a humanitarian/scientific pursuit, not a commercial one.

It's not money, it's pure politics, the reason why NIMBY people can stop a launch pad from being constructed because it creates noise, or because there's a 0.0000001% chance of debris falling from the sky (still less likely than lightning). If we all made decisions purely on practical basis, we'd be camping out on Mars by now.
