SpaceX BFR Simulation to Low Earth Orbit and Return (KSP 1.3.1)

Ғылым және технология

The SpaceX BFR Simulation to Low Earth Orbit and Return has been a work in progress for quite some time. With the fantastic help from KSP modders and general support network I've had a lot of fun setting up all the required systems to make this happen.
This simulation captured in Kerbal Space Program (KSP 1.3.1).
Big thanks to Damon for creating the wonderful BFR mod. Currently not completely supported for RealismOverhaul, but possibly getting close. You can download the mod here.
forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/...
Another big thanks to Nessus for assisting with preliminary config work for Realism Overhaul. Go check out Nessus' channel here.
• SpaceX BFR Moon Landin...
NOTE: A little hackery was done to allow the pitch control of the BFS ship on re-entry by using some super reaction control systems. Obviously the real intent is for the four actuated surfaces to provide this control. We just can't quite get that working correctly with KSP just at the moment :). It is a very unique style of control.

I want to know the actual payload capacity of the new BFR. Elon said that it is 100+ tons, but that could be anywhere between 100 to 150 tons (the payload of 2017 BFR was 150t). Elon also said that they could swap out the rear cargo pods for vacuum engines( which have a specific implies of 380 seconds, compared to the ~350 isp of sea level engines) if they do that, how powerful will the BFR then, 150t, 180t, 200t?

Maybe they could use the BFR to launch the james webb space telescope and oversee its assembly/unfolding in case there is a problem with all the complex movements. Re-fueled it could even move the james webb to its Lagrange point. (or follow it out there or service it later on too). The options of BFR make so many things possible.

i hope there will be 100 tons payload mass and few crew on board. And i want to know the BFR's inclination. And how many retanking would happen. And the most important is the booster. Actually I have the best BFR 2018 design in SFS.

Payload is a little cut down as awaiting the new released cargo slots at the back of the BFS. I've simulated it with around 80t total at this point.

now make a multiprobe to explore all of the outer planets and moons(even landing on all of them if possible), and send it into space.

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the issues with the “belly flop” re-entry. There are a whole bunch of new issues, new failure modes, that this approach introduces that the shuttle had to deal with. The heat protection system is just one. Specifically, BFR & BFS are basically HUGE thin-walled tubes, capped at both ends, with small control surfaces at either end. The big problem is that large diameter, thin walled tubes are very susceptible to buckling when subjected to external side loads and bending. Note that the control surfaces at the front & rear only work because they impart sizable side loads onto the body of the BFR/BFS, and these side loads must result in a large bending load (& stresses) on the external body. This is a failure mode that the Falcon boosters did not see, because they fell thru the atmosphere tail first. The static or averaged stresses are generally not a problem in aerodynamics, but the dynamic (time varying & inertial) stresses can be fatal. One typical source of cyclic stresses is “wake vortex shedding”. The booster will fall thru an enormous range of relative winds (Mach 25 down to zero) across its body. If it happens to find a vibration mode resonance anywhere within that range (which is highly likely, especially in the transonic range), then it could make for a very bad day. This is NOT to say that this issue is insurmountable. The shuttle successfully surmounted the problem, certainly by stiffening & strengthening the body against these vibration modes. But there is likely to be a serious weight & internal volume penalty to be paid. And they have superb modeling software these days, that will help identify & solve any issues that arise. But, as we saw with the shuttle, the stress analysis output is only as reliable as the input assumptions. Anomalous conditions (cold weather, shed ice build-up, etc.) can change everything very quickly. In ways that are obvious ... AFTER an “incident”. Just my $0.02 ...

SpaceX should build something like 16 bfr launch sites, each with 2 pads. Each site can have 1 bfr based out of it. When they launch, they go to the next pad, which will have an empty slot. That'll let the bfr go closer to orbit, render boostback obsolete and almost always keep one ready to fly.

Is this using the most realistic mods in ksp or does it use some hack to make it work? Does it adhere to all real physics or is it an animation?
