I truly don't mean this to be disrespectful, although there's probably no way it won't sound that way at least a little - if someone like Lee can not only make the show but win a game, there's hope for us all. The other two's wagers were enough that if they'd have been wrong, she'd have backed into another one!

I knew this one right off the bat. Nephew of a shuttle technician I knew it was Cook Discovery and Endeavour my two favorite shuttles. I miss the Shuttles it was a sad day when they retired.

On the upside, now we can go visit them. Couldn't do that before (well, at least most of us couldn't.) I've only been to the Discovery in DC, but I live a short drive from downtown LA. I have to get over there to check out the Endeavor. They're currently working on lifting it vertically and attaching it to boosters, so it will be displayed as if it's ready for launch.

The date gives it away, as it is a well-known fact that this particular captain was killed on Valentine's Day in 1779 in the Hawaiian Islands. Besides, this captain's name (as well as the year 1779) has come up on the show multiple times in recent years. No need to know anything about space shuttles.

I knew the correct response, but totally whiffed which shuttles which were named in their honor.

Cook comes up as the final Jeopardy question a disproportionate amount of times. Seriously.

ugh, i totally blew it because i couldn't decide between cook and nelson. i thought cook was alive a bit later, in the early 19th century, but i also knew there was no space shuttle named "victory" in honor of nelson's ship.

Fun fact: The last time Captain Cook came up on Final Jeopardy was in game 2 of the second week of Champions Wildcard, which aired on the third anniversary of Alex Trebek’s passing. The question was: Perhaps inspiring a line 2 centuries later, in 1774 he wrote that he was headed "farther than any other man has been before me". Before that, Captain Cook came up on the Final Jeopardy round on Hannah Wilson’s 8th game. The question was: Describing these, Captain Cook wrote, "The manner in which" they're done "must certainly cause intollerable pain". The last time the year Captain Cook died came up was on the tiebreaker game between Brian Chang and Jack Weller in January 2021. The question was: Statues honoring this man who was killed in 1779 can be found in Waimea, Kauai & in Whitby, England. Meanwhile, I immediately knew the answer on today’s game was Captain Cook because I missed it last time, wrote “Captain Cook 1774” on a sheet of paper, and watched a documentary about Captain Cook. Simply put, Captain Cook comes up a lot on Final Jeopardy!

Good to know... I'm sure the documentary would be useful, knowledge to cover questions from all directions.

I had Magellan but then noticed the date. Magellan was far earlier than the late Eighteenth Century. Cook made sense with that time period because I remembered from Dava Sobel's Longitude and the miniseries based on the book that Cook used John Harrison's chronometer.

Well, I knew which shuttles they were talking about, but wasn't sure of the explorer. Cook was one of two I thought of!!

Does anyone know where I can watch full episodes now that YT/Sony has pulled the plug here?
