    hey splitse this helped us out on one of our discords servers the way we got around the docking pathfinding issue was to setup pads on an outer area only connected to the rest of the base from underneath so the area in about a 25X25m area was just empty space we had 6 running at once and we setup a another drone group to patrol the area between where we were mining and our base and also had 2 players on patrol aswell and now with the new patches and stone having a little use we were so stocked up on iron that they bugged out from not being able to transfer cargo to the base and stopped working until we noticed but in short without your Tutorials our fully auto-mining fleet would be just a dream as we could never get the script to work before watching this video

    great vid. There was a blueprint on the workshop for an automated atmo-miner, called the Octopus , more involved setup though, had to show it the center of gravity, safe travel height, docking point, name cargo on base, GPS above ore, drilling depth from GPS, # of shafts, etc... Haven't used it in several months so don't know if it's broken or not.

    saw this and realised another use for this.... mining a tunnel into a moutain to base a underground/mountain base :) just need to figure out how to modify for planetside, and then just have it goto a start point and then tunnel straight for X meters; then move up and repeat to a max height you want; then go back to start of first run and move to the right and repeat all that until a max width reached. so digs bottom left first and finshes top right

    might be a nice idea to have some sort of Fleet (like 10 -20 Ships) that mines asteroids and bring it back to a MOVING Command Ship ( not too fast, like 2 or 5 m/s) would be nice to see when they take off

  • @DonnaPinciot

    I'm so glad that I've finally convinced them to use the actual script section rather than blueprint for simple installations like this from now on; a blueprint makes this far too hard to update, or even check for updates. I understand not changing it over now (Since you can't do that without deleting the item and uploading a new one), I only regret not asking about it sooner, they might have been willing to do it shortly after release. _It would still be really nice to have a script version of this uploaded as well, though..._

  • @mattp1337

    @mattp1337

    Yeah, the blueprint method makes absolutely no sense to me. If it was a regular script workshop item, at worst you lose your GPS and other custom settings when you do a script update. Or maybe I'm overlooking something.

  • @Splitsie

    For this one I was surprised it wasn't that way, though from what I understand the fleet command ones seem to use some sort of trickery that makes the blueprint necessary - apparently this may not be the case in the future from some comments Rdav's made :)

    I'm not sure how to or if you can highly customise the docking route, it might be possibly with the PAM script though. As to docking to a ship, that's not possible due to the autopilot needing GPS markers which can't move, though there are some people trying to work on a solution to that.

    Same here! But my problem was "a bit of gravity" as the target asteroid was near the planet and thrusters were not strong enough to move my miner correctly. So I made a 6 Large Thrusters on a small grid with 2x gyro and undocking was successful. Now I have the problem with docking... similar situation: Miner returns with cargo, positions itself over the connector and just sits there in that weird angle... If I dock it manually it will unload and continue the work... so it is still useful, you just have to check your docking yard from time to time. Also I made sure my docking platforms are all clear of obstacles and far away from other docked ships but still nada :( And I made sure that ships carry enough gyros (3 or 4 at least) to move fairly even on full load and some g-force pull from local planets. On couple versions I even have passenger seats and I can sit there and use manual controls to ride your miner like you would from the cockpit... cabrio miner mate :) Anyway, awesome script! If I find where is the problem, I will post it here.

    Any Idea as to why when the drone returns with the mined ore, it seems to want to dock to the connector backwards? Example: connector is on the rear of drone. When redocking instead orientating the connector on the rear to the docking connector, it keeps flying the front of the drone into the docking connector. When initialized, the rear connector is on the docking connector and there is a clear line of sight from the docking connector to the asteroid being mined.

    Hmmm... I wonder if something changed that affected the script with today's update? I know there were a number of changes that affected any scripts that accessed inventories but there might have been more widespread changes than just that :/ Sadly I never came across that particular issue so I'm not sure how to go about fixing it, since the script should be able to know front from back due to the orientation of the remote control block :(

    @Splitsie I would like to recommend that perhaps you pin a comment about how there has been a update where the "Browse Workshop" area when editing the programable block is not there anymore. I have been able to figure out that you can just copy the code, when going to edit on the programmable block, and pasting this code in a smaller programmable block that you can get from downloading the small ship mega mod pack. I know its kinda like a given to have that mod installed but I don't think everyone watching your video was aware that this mod was used for this miner. A huge thank you for this video though, even though the user interface had changed since posting this video I still figured out how to get it work by pasting the blueprints code into a new programmable block, and have built some sick miners.

    Ah, RDAV miner. sadly it gave me more trouble than I could afford as I essentially crashed 3 miner ships into a wall, and finally end up thinking "you know what? screw this I'd better go manual" instead. The problem about using the vanilla RC autopilot is that they sometimes don't work or catastrophically crash onto things, plus 30 meters is a really short distance which is too short to be comfortable. If only the miner script can have ranges farther than 30 meters then this script will be golden.

  • @Splitsie

    @Splitsie

    6 жыл бұрын

    Did you have ejectors on the ship to remove the stone? I noticed that sometimes the ship would ignore a previously partially mined column of the asteroid so if you had your inventory full before reaching the ore you'll end up with a seemingly random drilling. The other thing to note is that this method is not quick at all, you can absolutely mine faster manually, but my thoughts on systems like this are to use them while you're also mining yourself as then you get a nice little bonus :)

  • @storbokki371
    @storbokki3714 жыл бұрын

    I'm seeing this for the first time, but I'm now curious how small a drone would be needed to begin to be autonomous, auto-resource gathering, manufacturing, projecting, welding, etc., and moving to the next resources. It would gather from asteroids mostly, but would eventually have the ability on it's own to avoid gravity wells (planets) until it was capable of entering, gathering, and exiting on its own until it eventually mapped the whole game world and gathered every resource. Just one humongous ship! haha.

    Sort of, but the fighters will be incredibly dumb and more like pawns that just throw themselves at a wall until the wall breaks. You would be able to get ships to be autopiloted to a specific coordinate but not able to chase an enemy from that place, there are some relatively clever enemy NPCs out there (the mods broke with the update but the creator expects he'll have them fixed in a day or two) but enemy NPCs have some access to data in the game that allied autopilot ships can't due to it being an easy exploit in PvP
