Love the IL-2 content GS - just wanted to let you know the 1B doesn't have a cannon, just a .50cal. Feels like a canon on this teeny plane though. Keep it up dude! Excited for more WW2 content from you :)

You watch these vids and see GS become an ace in a day and wonder why pilots didn't have 3000 kills....until you watch the end when GS himself gets killed on the same day.

Probably a lot more common than most people think, specifically on the Eastern Front... Rudel was flying like 15 sorties a day. Every day. For years. That kind of operational tempo gets great stats, and increases the chance to die suddenly almost exponentially.

@@neighbor-j-4737 also helps the soviet air force was almost completely gutted by the purge, and everything that at the start of the rebuilding the airforce was mostly destroyed in the first month on the ground. The soviet air force had to build up fast, and they made huge strides in 42 and 43. Everyone always talks about the soviet army. But the soviet air force was massive in 45

A little tip for those interested in playing IL-2 Sturmovik themselves: they regularly have big discounts on their site. An option is to buy the base game (Battle of Stalingrad) for full price and then get the expansions when they are discounted.

I'd recommend getting Bodenplatte or even Normandy if you can't wait and get the rest on sale (the older ones get the highest discounts and you drop your support cash when getting the latest one that still is WIP with that early access discount). There is no "base game", every single pack works as such. The planes that come with the Premium editions are a great addition as well, so consider getting those instead of just the standard ones. Buying those collector planes afterwards is more expensive.

Loven this IL-2 content as I perfer the WW2 era planes over the more modern ones and I play IL-2 in VR as well. Keep em coming mate!

REALLY appreciating the WW1/WW2 content. Great video. Also... to have great rear visibility, you sure didn't use it much ;-)

I'm absolutely loving the ww2 and ww1 videos. I would like to see how you would do in the career mode how far you could get without dieing or bail out behind enemy lines.

As requested, pro tip: Try not to fly over the target as the bombs are dropping. 🧐 Really liking the IL 2 stuff. 🤛

Yak-1B is a very strong fighter in the 1942-1943 period in most servers. It carries the Russian team because it’s usually far more numerous than the La-5FN. Good pick.

Keep mixing it up, it seems after years of flight sims not being that great we are in a renaissance, with VR making it truly amazing and getting better.

have always been on the fence with VR - but your Il2 videos lately made me pull the trigger and my goodness, theres really nothing like it. I find myself just looking at the scale of the wing for way to long I'm so impressed. Also - side note to all, IL2 is having a huge sale till beg of November, some great deals on everything

It has better damage models and VR compatybility. In DCS I only fly mig21 and hornet, but enjoy every plane in IL2.

Thanks. Great as usual. I REALLY love the Yak-3 as flown in Aces High. It is faster than the 9 and 7 and has better visibility.

You got to get the Yak-9T with the 37mm cannon. It's an amazing flyer and has a giant cannon. Just single tap 109s and 190s out of the air with 37mm HE. If you can get a direct rear aspect hit on the tail feathers of an He111 you can take it out in one hit too. That's more fun than shooting the engines lol.

Man you have an uncanny ability to get pilot sniped. It feels like it happens 3 out of every 4 times you get shot down lol

Ikr. When I get shot with 30mm in a canopy, I can fly back to base with relative ease. GS on the other hand is a magnet for lead.

Love your videos! keep up the good content. BTW it seems like your getting pretty into VR lately so I seriously suggest looking into the HP reverb G2 Headset. It has amazing clarity and once I got it I couldn't go back to flat screen again.

IL2 is definitely the best WW2 flight sim out there imo. I personally love flying the Hurricane in the Soviet spec with the Shvak cannons. It's definitely an underdog when it comes to speed but I seem to do quite well with it

And there you have the vexxing problem of being a fighter pilot. A genuine Ace like GS wreaks havoc on an enemy formation but with one tiny lapse of concentration gets blasted out of the sky by an unseen enemy...and you don't get to respawn :/

Gotta say, you must be handling the WWII fighters you've tried so far in VR (Hurricane, YaK) pretty damn well to be downing so many Bf 109's (and the odd Fw 190) with them - all else being equal I wouldn't expect to see that.

Yep as I have learned so many times in IL2 never go vertical on a 109 it’s no bueno.

Yak-1B and Yak-7 used to be my favourite soviet planes in WarThunder. More so for the Yak-1B it's so manageable, fast enough and maneuvarable.

Also using the RIFT S in IL2 but i m struggling to get settings allowing me to efficiently spot & ID planes beyond medium range… dont if you also had to tweak a bit…

I used to hate it that in the original Il2 the 12.7 guns did jack shit, so i always opted for a plane with high caliber stuff. Which i didn't find all that realistic. It's good to see that they've changed it for the better here, regardless of the fact that i haven't played any flight sims for about 10 years already.

I think it's worth mentioning that the original Il-2 was made by Maddox Games and the 777 Studios that made Rise of Flight originally wanted to add WWI content to the original Il-2, but then saw the need for a new engine, so they started making their own sim. After RoF they started making the Great Battle series. Back in the day of 1946 they made the Gennadich Server Commander as well. So basically the new Il-2 is made by diehard fans of the old one. The original Il-2 devs made Cliffs of Dover though. In the old Il-2, you generally needed to dump more ammo into planes to down them BTW. But it's still unbeaten in terms of variety of airframes and theatres. And Team Daidalos still updates it nowadays...

...and totally betrayed in about 50 years.

Even if germans retain performance up high better, doesn't meant that height/energy advantage is of no use for soviet fighters. Also noticed that due worse quality of canopy glass for soviet fighters, for better visibility and hearing, for enhanced tactical awareness, many pilots in some cases fly on soviet fighters in IL2 with open canopy, closing it down on certain maneuvers where every extra speed bit matters.

I think it was in Alexander Pokryshkin's memoir that i read that mig3 pilots preferred to fly with the canopy open, because it couldn't be opened above a certain speed, which made it impossible to bail out. Just a side note.

@@zloychechen5150 I know of historical reasoning, but i mentioned because saw this trick often used in streams of one IL2 player, when he was flying soviet planes. Obviously, mostly to enhance awareness, not because uncertainty in ability to open it in emergency.
