Soviet WW2 14.5mm Anti-tank rifle vs 20mm IFV armored steel | High Caliber Mayhem

What makes a Soviet weapon unique? Simplicity, reliability and deadliness
Today I brought you some of the most legendary and powerful rifles I've ever seen - PTRD as we call it. Destined to bring down nazi tanks and vehicles, this massive gun was used even as anti-aircraft at some point.
So behold this PTRD! I guarantee you've never seen anything like this before!

You need to brush up on your physics. The rock is not pushing anything anywhere, to do so would require a force which requires energy and the rock is just there doing nothing with zero energy. It can offer resistance to movement by virtue of the energy, in the form of inertia, required to move it. But it doesnt push anything.

the interesting thing about the PTRD is that although being bolt action, the recoil as the barrel retracts into the rear part of the receiver actuated the bolt to unlock which in proper operation it should eject the spend casing. looks like the gun is a wee bit sticky after so many years in the shed

@@Watchdreamzzz Old wartime cartridges HAD same power. The problem is inconsistent performance after all these years since ammo used wide array of erzatz powders, with some of them being acidic enough to eat the cartridges themselves. That's why some ammo better be disposed. Or, at the very least, disassembled, inspected for damages and new powder loaded. Also, this channel operates from DPR/LPR. I think you may be mistaken. There is a semi automatic version that has a reciprocating barrel to reduce some recoil and eject the spent casing. The bolt action versions do not have a reciprocating barrel. All you see here is the entire firearm sliding back on the bipod since it is not a solid mount.

Typically armor steel is part of a box that comprises the inside of the vehicle. So it is unsupported from directly behind the impact... usually. Also if the plates are free standing the projectile will bounce the armor before it has the chance to make a meaningful bite in the steel. In the case of anti take rifles, without a penetrator core, they would rely on the concussion of the impact to send shrapnel flying inside of the tank. While I also expected a bit more penetration, I'd like to see what kind of shrapnel would be created on the opposing side of the armor when shot straight on.

I don't see anyone talking about this, when he shoots the steel plates around the middle of the video, it should not crack that much. I'm guessing those metal plates are all cast iron, because metal is meant to have a little bend to it, and casting the metal too hot causes it to become almost like glass. This process of superheating casts is very common in Russia, almost all armored vehicles are built this way, and it's why in old photos during the great patriotic war, many knocked out tanks and other armored vehicles have these massive hull cracks. It's interesting to see it happen like this and it displays how casting metal too hot can make it less effective at stopping incoming fire, also it creates even more large pieces of deadly shrapnel

Immediate Action Incendiary is going to be an inertially fused explosive round designed to detonate a moment after impact with a hard surface, or anything that can slow it down fast enough to trigger. Not good for penetration. IAI ammo was originally developed as an alternative to tracers to show where shots were impacting without revealing the shooters position.

14.5mm is the caliber, and the measure from land to land of the barrel. The diameter from groove to groove is probably something like 14.88. 14.88 is the actual diameter of the projectile. When fired, the spiralling lands dig into the projectile and impart spin that stabilizes the flight of the projectile.
