My great grandfather, who was a member of the Communist Party from 1948 until 1992, never even heard of the Anthem of the Bolshevik Party. After meetings, the party usually sang the Internationale. I don't know why Alexandrov and Lebedev-Kumach even wrote this song if it wasn't even used by the party. My grandpa, who was also briefly a member of the party, said that the Internationale was the anthem of the Bolshevik Party. My parents would have been members of the party had they been born earlier. By 1991, when they were about to become Komsomols, the Soviet Union was already on the verge of collapsing.

By 1944, that melody had been co-opted for the national anthem. The Bolshevik Party Hymn was probably played mostly before then, when the Internationale was used as the national anthem.

@@sc9881 True, and since my great grandfather only became a member of the Party in 1948, he might have actually heard only the Internationale being used as the anthem of the party rather than the Anthem of the Bolshevik Party. I don't know that because he only told me that he was a member of the party before he passed away in 2012.

My grandparents and great grandparents lived under Stalin. My great grandfather, in particular, joined the Communist Party in 1948, so he served under Stalin. His time there was the second scariest moment of his life after the Blockade of Leningrad. It is nothing short of a miracle that he survived the Blockade of Leningrad and Stalin’s purges of the Party after WWII.

My great-grandfather lived through Stalin's entire reign. As a member of the Communist Party, he experienced Stalin's Cult of Personality and his Reign of Terror firsthand. It is nothing short of a miracle that he survived not only that, but also lived to see the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

@@universo5564 Not quite. He died in 2012, just before he turned ninety-three. But he was born before the Soviet Union and lived to see it fall. Of my great-grandparents, he was the only one to live past the fall of the USSR, and the only one I knew when he was alive. If one person did not miss Lenin and Stalin, it would be him. Lenin died before he turned five. My great-grandfather saw the funeral procession for Stalin on TV, and when he heard the pallbearer say; “Through tempests shone the sun of freedom to us, and the Great Lenin illuminated our path. Stalin has raised us to be true to the people, he inspired us to labor and heroic deeds,” he simply scoffed, saying to himself what he was forbidden to say out loud. He thought that people mourning Stalin's death was hypocrisy. I agree, and the only Soviet Leader whose death should be mourned is the best one, Mikhail Gorbachev.
