I became a pilot in 2005 and my first flights as a pre-professional pilot were on the An-12. At that time in Bulgaria the An-12 was the workhorse of aviation. Unfortunately for me in 2009 the An-12 was banned due to fictitious eco-norms. Now I fly on a Boeing 737- 400 I'm happy again, because I'm doing what I love, but I'm not as happy as when I flew An-12. I've always loved the noise of the engines and the simplicity of An-12. With An-12 I've flown around African countries, where air hooliganism is it was everyday life. Always beautiful and memorable moments.

Is that Hristo Lukov in your profile picture? Lol, in my country he is known as a fascist and hated, curious to know what is the attitude towards him among Bulgarian army staff

In Russia the An-12 is still in operation! Volga-Dnepr Airlines got two of these and is flying cargo on them.

@@warmike I'm sure they still fly, because some of our An-12s were sold to Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. Our airline existed almost until 2008, but we made flights through foreign airlines. This continued until 2009. Then the airline already bought a Boeing 737 -300 and 737-400. I'm sure that then 2 planes went to Ukraine for Kavoc air. Another part went to Belarus and I think they still fly in Ruby Star. Maybe there are a few of them that are operated by Atran, but no I am completely sure. But when I think about it, maybe at this moment neither Atran nor Volga-Dnepr operate with An-12. They retired them.

Ah, the Soviet answer to the C-10. those downward bent wingtips were pretty clever.🤔

These are planes that can land and take off on difficult terrain in the ABSENCE of a runway

Like the Russian equivalent of a C-130. 👍
This plane was given the nickname Black Tulip because it was used to carry the dead back from Afghanistan.
