As far as I know, development was interrupted due to the collapse of the USSR, and not because of insurmountable engineering obstacles. I think it was a viable project. What we see in the video are concepts. The development of piloting techniques, the development of standards and restrictions for piloting has just begun. Uncharted field, continuous innovations and identification of problems. Wikipedia subdivides all ekranoplanes into three categories, so that some types of ekranoplans can fly quite high - like the plane and turning is not a problem for them. I think After a year of testing, a technique for accident-free piloting would have been developed. Today, the tasks assigned in the past to ekranoplanes are performed by other technical means and modes of transport, but I would be glad to hear about the continuation of this project. Это самый маленький из серии экрано планов. Был ещё "Лунь" и др. Наблюдал воочию испытания этих монстров на Каспии. Ошеломляющее зрелище... Жаль, загубили уникальную отрасль промышленности. Ни один самолет не мог взять на борт такой большой груз, и лететь на таких малых высотах вне видимости радаров..

@@user-bi2ke8hd3p Он наверное о продолжении дела Алексеева (конструктора), его КБ до сих пор существует и работает. Уже давно восстановили производство кораблей на подводных крыльях, Комета 120М, Метеор 120Р, Валдай и другие. В питере они по Неве ходят и в Крыму. А работы над экранопланами действительно ведутся, там грузовые и более экономные должны получится, потому что при Алексееве это выглядело пафосно, но расход топлива был запредельный.

It was a wild paper napkin sketch come to life. That horizontal tailplane has a lot of 'Jetsons' Elroy toy airplane in it. Was this thing supposed to go near supersonic? The swinging cab door idea really complicates all the control and fuel line connections. Overall it was only a research design with no real practical use except fighting a full scale conventional war in home area seas.

So was the Mig-25 until it was examined closely. Thank you Lt. Belenko. The ekrano planes were a random waste of research money with no practical use. The real psych weapon was the North American XB70 Valkyrie. Made the Soviets build the Mig-25 fleet.

The "Eaglet" is designed for the transfer of amphibious assault forces at a distance of up to 1500 km, it takes off at a wave height of up to 2 meters and develops a speed of 400-500 km/h. Loading and unloading of people and equipment is carried out through the bow to the right, together with the cockpit and starting engines. The device is capable of taking on board up to 200 fully armed marines or two armored vehicles (tank, armored personnel carrier, infantry fighting vehicle). The ability to fly like an airplane (it could completely switch to airplane flight mode, rising to a height of up to 3000 meters) and use any water surface for landing, allows you to quickly transfer ekranoplanes from the Caspian basin to the Black Sea. Thanks to the design scheme, the ekranoplane can freely overcome mine and network protective barriers simply by flying over them. The ekranolet is armed with a Utes-M turret-turret machine gun mount (two NSVT machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber). The crew of the amphibious ekranoplan consists of 9 people.

What they found at further testing was that it was not suitable for flying under storm conditions or the large swells over the oceans. Perhaps later iterations would have been better. But none of the actual built models were safe enough for ocean conditions.

Это не тупик, это прорывая техника! Орлёнок - это трнспортно-десантный экраноплан, КМ - это был опытный корабль-макет. А Лунь - это ударный экраноплан-ракетоносец! Но ничто не мешает их использовать в гражданских целях, в отсутствие дорог на больших площадях и с гораздо большей эффективностью, чем авиацию, автомобильный и железнодорожный транспорт!

Было чего бояться,500 человек на борт и скорость 500 , вот и прикинуть с такой скоростью через пару часов где этот экраноплан высадит десант, да и засечь его не просто,а при современном вооружении России его вообще ни чем не собьёшь. Жаль что прекратили работу над перспективным Каспийским монстром.

Fascinating... Lot's of Potential too.

Great piece of engineering but note the bird screens over the intakes. One problem these machines could never solve were bird strikes at high speed at low level where the machine is out of action for days or weeks waiting for replacement parts or panel work. Look at images of the other examples and count the dents on the engine inlet cowlings.

Ekranoplans are surely interesting class of vehicles. They combine some advantages of boats and planes. High speed, ability to fly "below radar" and above sea mines. Ability to land on water, no need for runway. This would make them useful for amphibious military operations, rescue missions and possibly supplying of small islands, where building runway is an issue. But they also have strong limitations , that's why they never became a mainstream. Bird strikes, waves, collisions with other maritime traffic (eg. small fishing boats). To name few.

@@envynemo4170 Larger the ground effect aircraft, the greater the height it can go, there would have to be 150 metre waves for the aircraft of such immense proportions to get in trouble, far as I know, waves can only grow into 100 metre and they are very rare.

Как вы задрали с этими галошами. Под галошами Путин имел ввиду вещи, которую не продать на импорт. Еда и нефть с газом не в счёт. Все эти оуенные технологии, по примеру того что на видео, или адские технологии в военной сфере, в космосе и так далее....это всё не было предназначено для экспорта. Так что да, СССР очень и очень мало производил того, что разрешено было бы продавать за рубеж, и что там было бы востребовано

И это были не всеми любимые галоши, а именно технологичные вещи корабли, машины, самолеты, станки, оборудование для электростанций. СССР продавал целые заводы с оборудованием. После развала наши технологии перестали развиваться, много было утрачено, как представленный в видео экраноплан и как следствие наши товары перестали быть востребованы за рубежом. И уже в 90е оставалось торговать только ископаемыми, так как даже галоши мы уже не могли сами производить.

A lot of the comments are killing me about this craft. It CAN fly. Only max altitude is 10,000 feet. Your average Cesna can nearly double that to give you a frame of reference as to how the unique design to take advantage of ground effect shaped it's in air performance. Mostly the wings are much smaller than an average craft with a fuselage of this magnitude. You need one of two things or a proper combination of the the two in order to climb higher as the air gets thinner. Power or lift. Anyway, and they were not cancelled because of the collapse of the Soviet Union. They built one that never moved for testing and then they only needed two. The third, functional model was built because the first one was damaged and destroyed. They were used to move military back and forth across the sea quickly. Like a 250 mile an hour ferry boat. It is much quicker because the craft doesn't have to waste all the time climbing out and then flying around in a pattern to land. And, the 250 mile an hour speed could be reached with less power than would be needed in the air because it took advantage of the ground effect.

Если бы Лунь запустили бы то посылки из Али Экспресс доставлялись бы куда быстрее !!! Был грузовой вариант Луни весь мировой океан заполнил бы быстроходные суда которые бы вытеснили бы медленные стандартные корабли

The KM one could use ground effect up to 14m from water, so pretty big waves for closed seas.

j'ai vu un article ou il était question de réétudier les Ekranoplans, pour des engins "monstrueux" l'idée étaient d'aller vers les 4000 tonnes le système à effet de sol permettant une énorme économie de carburant/vitesse pour du transport de fret (bon ça demeure peut être à l'état de rêve pour financiers, de ceux qui veulent des crédit pour des projets...mais quant à la réalisation....)

May the Great Flying Boats return !! I guess their main problem was maintenance due to saltwater corrosion. I think the old flying boats had a similar problem, hull biofouling. It added weight and was constantly being cleaned off.

imagine if it was made commercially, of course it's safer than a regularly airplane, because it doesn't fly too high
