I agree. I just want to mention this before I say what I am about to say, I am not comparing Wilson to Haaland. Foden and Haaland have such a good partnership together at Man City. Wilson while not being as good as Haaland is, he does share some similarities in the fact that he is quite quick and strong for a striker. It could work, Foden would be feeding Wilson balls on a plate, because he is that good.

Mark almost said "Hello everybody welcome to the United Stand" 🤣

If Foden isn’t coming on in a game like that, he might as well get the next plane home and enjoy a mid season break.

As an American, there were a few players that scared me. Foden was one of em. Wilson was another. Rushford and Grealish did too but we handled them pretty well and Rashford scuffed his chance.

One of the best players in the world sat on bench collecting dust, he hasn’t picked any of the team based on there performance in the premier league. He literally just picks the players he has the best relationship with and doesn’t want to upset them. The team has barely changed since he got there. as a Blues fan, i love it when Mount and Pulisic are both out wide, Grealish has been ho hum IMO since mid last season... start on the RW Sterling, ST Kane (bring Callum on for the last 14 or 15 atleast, mroe like 20 with Harry's fitness prob) and Mount as a LW, and Foden the CF... i think it coulda turned out a lot diff for you guys tonight.. esp start old Trent AA, and im sure yall woulda spanked our fat asses

Using the England squad like a defensive block when most are attack-oriented players and not putting any pressure on America. It's clear that we don't have to do that - the iran game was the total opposite, and I would say Iran are going into their last match with the US as slight favourites.

But, I hope our manager makes some adjustments .. formation wise, and I want Jacob Sargent starting, i can not stand us as a 4-4-2 , i mean a 4-3-1-2 is basically the same thing but id like to see the 4-3-3 tried again, shoot we have Yedlin, and Dest. I know Yedlin is a RB/ RWB usually but ive seen him at LWB under a 3-4-1-1 and that could be done well against IRAN ...but the 4-3-3 (against Iran) i think would be best. McKennie also won't be so freaking full of nervous energy , he an Pulisic if they get back their good chemistry whilst playing together it could be a seruously entertaining game.

Hendo being brought on when England need to score is very confusing. Henderson is good at bringing some leadership and stability to the team to help see out a game. Bringing him on when England need a goal is just baffling

Some things never change. It's been like this since WC-70 when I was 7-years-old (Mexico; 3-2 loss to West Germany in the QF after being 2-0 up). The killer for me was the qualifiers for WC-74 when they failed to win the last match (against Poland at Wembley - 1-1 draw). The solution is to be an anti-England fan. I baled out at 11 and looking back it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I enjoy all of the tournaments AND my sanity is intact. Also, my sadist gland gets a good fingering. Not surprised that, as an American, you do t realise that Hendo was needed at that point. You were cutting through our midfield, Bellingham was chasing shadows. He might actually be learning on the job. Results are the ultimate metric and the USA tied England. We’ll see how he handles irans low block and jail break counters.

As an American, my hope was in Southgate's inability to manage the moment, and perhaps a bit of slack from ENG following their very impressive first match. Forturnately was right on both accounts.

Just because you are english and play in the PL doesnt mean you are a top player like most of you seem to think. I don’t read in to it happened in the euros last year and we did okay, Spain also won the World Cup when they lost to Switzerland this happens, in a great position still

Why did foden not play? He’s literally our most promising player by a long way

Yeah agree, he is just a defensive manager and unfortunately it’s never to change. He learnt from defensive managers and has always managed underdog defensive clubs. If we as fans don’t believe he can win a tournament then I’m sure the players know that better than us and think the same. Would love if he proves us wrong and goes and wins the WC 😂

I know Maguire did well but the reason for that was because we rarely left our half and Harry had all the support in the world. It's a strange thing but when the team does bad, he does good (for the wrong reasons) and when the team plays well pressing high and aggressive, he does bad.

Cap. Maguire is the defender that plays as a wall. So mostly he tries to win aerial attacks and sometimes slide tackles but near the goalkeeper . It's just that if he missed the tackle everyone is like " OOh mY gOd HaRRy maGuIrRe SuCkS"

I believe you are right. Good for maguire being man of the match but if England played attacking football he would struggle same like he does at United. He shined today because of the defensive football they are playing yet it is obvious England's strength is in attack.

When I heard Southgate is the best paid international team manager of them all nowadays I almost choked to death with the chicken I was having for lunch

this would be even more embarrassing than 2014 if they go home now because at least in 2014 they had Italy and Uruguay 2 pretty decent teams but they have one of the easiest groups ever and are still struggling

Just the way it is, england are no way near the level Italy is, in favt i wouod as far to say as england are at the bottom end of the top 10 teams in the world. After all you camt be known as the top team of you have won only one tournament, to be the best you jave to win tournaments amd beat the best, england have not done that since 1966.

I have sooo many whys. Why is Foden ignored? Why didn’t we sub earlier? Why does Southgate have favourites? Why is Southgate a manger? Shocking

maguire and stones were both good but they also held the ball at the back a lot. I dont know if it was because everyone was pushed to far up but the USA were playing very narrow and we were very wide and it didnt work.

I am still wondering what criteria were used in deciding the choice of Southgate as the national team manager. All the followinbg are miles better managers tactically and as assertive voices in the dressing room or game room (war room): Graham Potter, Eddie Howe, Shaun Dyche. But we chose a wimp, a damp suib on any occasion.

I’ll admit I don’t know much about the tactics of football, so genuine question: why does England’s biggest talent Phil Foden not get a kick for his national team? I don’t understand it, surely the team should be built around someone with this much creativity and ability? I can’t see it happening elsewhere.

Like most of the squad, he plays for a club that centres on possession based total football philosophy. Southgateball is more defensive minded in nature, more negative and less creative. A player like foden can't shine in a team that lacks the technicality, confidence and most importantly chemistry to deliver a proper ball to him. Doesn't help that he's very small either, so not much of a target man

@@zorenwhite7886 i never said he needed perfection to shine, but statistically speaking, the more chances you create, the more goals you're expected to score. That's literally what xG means. You can't expect foden, kane or even raheem to do much when you have the likes of trippier, shaw and mount playmaking for them. I support chelsea, so trust me. We've been dealing with this issue since hazard left.

Southgate: this is the world cup and we got a point. Goldbridge: "As England, our target should be to win the world cup and were struggling against teams whose target is to make it out of the group" Couldn't have said it better mate 👍 👏

As an American I was disappointed we didn't win. With the way they played.

I can’t believe that some of the most talented and valuable footballers looked worse than a bunch of soccer players.
