    Still my favorite tv show today. Probably the only prime time drama I’ve ever watched. Southfork’s interiors on the show for the first season were filmed at Bruce Calder’s residence in Turtle Creek. The 1996 reunion movie, ‘JR Returns’ used his residence again for Southfork’s interiors. When production moved to a soundstage at MGM by the second season, the studio recreated a replica of Mr Calder’s residence, which became Southfork’s permanent interiors(downstairs only)until the show’s final season.

    I know, right? It was certainly strange to see something that you saw on TV up close and personal. Pretty awesome though, I enjoyed it there. I remember in the 1980's immigration in Dallas just exploded. People were moving here from all over the world hoping to get a piece of the action. A real ranch but not a working one. I'm not sure what you mean, but I'm reminded that in The Netherlands there is a museum called the Open Air Museum where the exhibits show how farming was and is in the country. Many (not all) exhibits are real and living. The vegetables grown and cheese produced are sold at markets which supplements the income of the museum.

    Basically that. It's a real ranch, i.e. it's not a hollywood film set - it's actually a real ranch house. But it doesn't make massive money from producing cattle and milk etc. They're there mainly for show.

  • @rockintetster
    @rockintetster4 жыл бұрын

    I’ve always felt that this house is understated and not a good choice to represent the Ewing family. The Cloyce Box mansion in Frisco was the original exterior for Southfork. It was only used for the original five episode mini series. When Dallas was renewed for its first complete season in 1979, Mr. Box declined the request to continue the use of his house for the exterior shots of Southfork. Thus the producers chose this house, originally known as Duncan Acres for the twelve year run of the show. The Box mansion was a much grander and picturesque home, more suitable to be the house of the oil magnate family. Tragically, the Box mansion was destroyed by fire in 1987. It was accidentally set ablaze by workers during renovations.

    Yes, after the 5 episode miniseries was such a hit in April of 1978, CBS ordered 13 episodes for the 1978-79 season. The owner of the original ranch said no, as it was too disruptive to his ranching business. Agree too, the original house was much more of house Jock would have built.

    I wonder how many people are disappointed when they go to Southfork and realize that the exterior is not the same. I didn’t know for the longest time. It was kind of a bummer when I first found out. Actually, for me personally, I love the inside of the house that was used on the show. The real house seems to gaudy for me. Pretty cool though that that the outside shots were the same. But sadly after several years, the show did fewer and fewer on location scenes at the real Southfork and around Dallas, and ultimately all the show was filmed on soundstages.

Amanda thought that Bobby was Jock. (b) Then it is the reading of Jock's will where it is up to his two boys must have the most assets within a year's time in which they decided to handle Ewing Oil hand in hand just like Jock would have wanted it. Ultimate Bucket List the movie was filmed at Elstree Studios in London, but Stanley Kubrick modeled the hotel from the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite Valley

    I agree the reboot was not very good. Part of the problem was the producer and the writers who were lazy the stories they gave us.

    Yes that's exactly right. Inside, it's nothing like what you see on the TV, and it's really only the exterior that you'll recognise from the actual TV show.

    He talks about the inside being in tact like the show… the inside has nothing to do with show… they used a completely different house for interior then replicated that other house on a set in California for interior shots. They did use the inside of south fork to make scenes in the robot…

    A fact I mentioned in the video. They make it like the show BUT they filmed the interiors in a studio.

    Jr Ewing and Donald Trump. Very similar Behavior, both can be despicable, and both get the job done. Today I read June 2019 the best Dow in 81 years S&P 500 50 years lowest unemployment 50 years. One is real life, the other a TV show. It's funny to me how similar the two are.

    It's crazy isn't it? A lot of people slam Donald Trump, but the stats don't lie. They are very similar. I wonder if DT drew inspiration from JR in terms of character building?!

    Why the fuck is an English guy representing a Dallas Texas ranch! You think they could have got an American Cowboy with a southern accent instead! thumbs up if you agree.

    Trouble with the Dallas reboot was the actors ALL had the same look...especially the women. There are no faces anymore and the acting is horrible!!

    I didn't think it was that bad actually?! I mean sure, the acting was questionable in places - but it was totally watchable.

    Pamela, Elaina (or whatever she was called), Judith - to name 3 actresses who were new to the reboot who had radically different looks? I think the reboot failed because it had no clear direction. Should have been braver with season 3. I know JR was gone but watching some of the classic Knots, you had Abby, Greg as scheming villains aswell as various guest villains and it didn't seem crowded. So it can be done. But Dallas reboot season 3 had Elaina plotting, John Ross, Judith, Harris, Cliff, the various South Americans etc - sooooo many villains and so unfocused. 2 or 3 villains could have driven the show and given drama and direction for the other characters. Instead,it was a jumble of convulted silliness with no character grounded. Such a missed opportunity.
