It’s probably not the best decision to challenge SU anywhere, but to challenge them in New Orleans during Mardi Gras/Carnival season has to be the most irresponsible thing your could do for your career as a band director. Talladega has be around for what less than years? compared to SU's 100+ years? these things take time. I don't know another college band that got to this level in such a small amount of time. If their head director is not anything he's a master recruiter.

The intro on SU opening piece is off the hook!! The B-tones are man among boys out here...they upper register is in tune and clean for the most part except for the blip in the intro. SU been like this forever

Problem with their trumpets is that they don't have strong 1st and 2nd trumpets. Everyone can't play Super 1st. It makes the sound super thin. Those altissimo notes get lost or drowned out from the lower brass. Then the F-horns tones match those of the 1st trumpets/super 1st and get drowned even more.

Talladega came with it...at the 15 min mark...but I like they're energy and effort in their sound but....ya you know. SU

Why It Seems Like When Su Go Against Somebody They Make Them Seem Boring And Su Is Entertaining 💙💛💙💛

It has been my experience that (all) bands are louder in person. With that being said I know ear plugs were needed for this battle. But all of these born after 1998 opinions are dumb. If you have not followed SU for as long as I have (1983) you cant talk about audio manipulation. Why is that needed when people are there in person can tell you. The arrangements, chords, sound, etc is on point. SU is complete. I didn't say perfect but complete. Stop making up stuff. If Dega lost they lost. If they fought a good fight. Just say I hate SU and be done with it. But all the excuses won't work because they know and everyone out there know that Southern University is that band. "Often Imitatated, Never Duplicated"

But SU folk will say that another band is mic'd, when that is not true, especially when that band is pushing watts to them... So what is difference when it comes to SU, and it being stated that the footage is manipulated here?... I am not an SU hater, I applaud SU and they definitely came out on top in this battle... Anybody can be in a location in person, and yet provide you the assessment they choose... Y'all have your opinions and viewpoints just like everyone else, but the problem is y'all SU can't handle when all applause doesn't go to SU... Then you take the course of action of just claiming whatever, fabricating details, and making excuses.

Now the opinion debate arguments are this do you think those overbearing baritones and piercing mellophones and no Trumpets from Talladega is superior over what you hear from Southern then you are right. that is your opinion just like everybody else have this so what are we talking about???

The burgundy and blue Band automatically Lost the battle for playing while Southern University-The Human Jukebox was playing “Through the Fire”. The band director knew Southern playing that arrangement would’ve sealed the deal that the burgundy and blue band had no structure in their arrangements.

Juke didn’t cut through Dega. on the video it did because that’s where the Jukes mics were but in actuality. Dega blew straight through that song like cutting through butter. Don’t let these band programs media determine your opinion, go to smash time that’s the best and most fair angle for both bands

I can respect Talledaga’s effort. French horns very strong. However, Southern’s musicianship outweighed their effort. This comes from a mutual party that has no favoritism. Southern Up 1!

I’m giving this win to SU because they sound the best, better arrangements, and more balanced. TC appears to have more power, but there arrangements really hold them back. Not a bad song selection from either school.

talladega baritone section was already strong but when they switched to euphos their band came incredibly inbalanced and also since the assistant band director also played baritone and switched to eupho before being band director he likes to put btones on top i think su band got used to their euphos because the first year su got euphos they were extremely powerful especially at crankfest 2016 what im saying is the other talladega sections need to get stronger

Way too many manipulations to the audio delivery/capture of various instrument sections... Dropping the volume in places, and raising the volume in other places... It can be heard wearing headphones, the overall volume's fullness is lessened by doing this.
